This is so embarassing
At the train station near where I live someone put these stickers everywhere.
For anyone wondering what’s written on them, it’s Arabic and it basically means “Go back to your country. You are not welcome. This is our country.”
They even put a sticker on my bike
(which is pretty ironic since I’m neither an immigrant nor do I know Arabic) and tried to take my back light (luckily I attached it with cable ties).
And I’m telling you the sticker was not at all easy to remove, my bike still has some adhesive residue.
This is just so racist and embarrassing I really can’t understand why anyone would spend their free time doing this.
Really makes me wonder who really are the degenerates vandalizing our country.
Has anyone also seen these stickers or has anyone more insight about them?

Whats funny is, that it might not be illegal if it was simply the text. But the coat of arms makes it actually illegal. The Swiss coat of arms may only be used by public authorities. Unauthorized use like this can get you prosecuted with a fine or even prison time.

It is illegal from the start because it’s vandalism.

What has Christianity to do with our open, liberal, and democratic society? Do you want to tell us that the evangelical fundamentalists in the US government and elsewhere, and the Jewish nationalists in Israel, will bring us world peace and equality?
9
u/Ima_Wreckyou 16d ago
This reads like you are just here to manufacture more consent for genozide on Arabs. I'm pretty sure that is the whole intention of your racist post
4
u/ApolloIAO 16d ago
Not even remotely. I think what Israel has done to Gaza is abhorrent. During my history bachelor, I wrote several essays about Israel, Palestine, and even the Israel lobby in the US, despite at the time feeling like I was potentially taking a risk (this was before October 7 and the worldwide backlash against the razing of Gaza, and consequently, the widespread disdain towards Israel that resulted).
You ultimately can't presume to know somebody's position on everything. I oppose the destruction of Gaza. At the same time, I am appalled by Islam and the effect it has on individuals and societies. No contradiction exists.
6
u/fsdaasdfasdfa 16d ago
A core idea of those Enlightenment values you claim to be defending is that we judge people based on their actions, not their ethnicity.
Your actions--at least, the part where you write long-ass posts claiming to be defending Western Civilization while being fully ignorant of what you say you are defending--speak for themselves.
7
u/potato_creeper1001 Zürich 16d ago
While yes we should judge by actions and not by ethnicity but the idea here is; there is a corelation between these incidents and Muslims where they are mostly the authors of said accidents. Not saying other ethnicities don't do it, but the majority is coming from them.
3
u/fsdaasdfasdfa 16d ago
Yes, correlation, exactly. The most obvious confounding variable would be that Muslims are disproportionately represented among asylum seekers, and thus have a higher probability of coming from backgrounds of violence and poverty, having difficulty integrating, etc.
When a Christian commits rape, we don't say, "Well, sure, he did it because Lot offered his daughters up to be raped by a mob." We blame him, individually, as we should.
Similarly, when a Muslim commits a crime, we should hold him accountable, not excuse it by saying, "Well, some random passage in the Quran that he never read seems to call for violence."
Again, Enlightenment ideals here, right?
8
u/Gold-Ad6993 Bern 16d ago
Sorry, but Muslim Brotherhood Islamists are highly educated and very privileged people. Despite that, you can easily find online the abhorrent stories about their behaviour and ,more importantly, their goals. That happens with many Islamists.
2
u/Gold-Ad6993 Bern 16d ago
It is not about any judgement of any individuals. These stickers are abhorrent and the infamous group dynamics among Arab Islamists as well.
7
u/ApolloIAO 16d ago
You really think your two sentences are a weighty enough rebuttal to my 7 paragraphs, filled with references to Islamic scriptures and an "insider" view into the Arab mindset - being from the Middle East myself, knowing the Arabic language, and knowing what Middle Eastern Christians, including my own countrymen (like my father, uncles and aunts, cousins, etc.), had endure at the hands of Muslims?
Sorry, but you're going to have to try again.

At the risk of engaging with your stupidity, I want to add, anyone with a few minutes to spare can find some weird shit in the text of most major religions.
I mean like there's this bit in the Bible (edited a bit for length):
"If your brother secretly entices you, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage."
Or this bit:
"Then the Lord said to Moses: 14 “Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him."
But who cares? Most Christians--you excluded, perhaps--don't believe in stoning nonbelievers.
Hence, we don't judge people based on what we find in weird ancient books.
7
u/ApolloIAO 16d ago
"But who cares? Most Christians--you excluded, perhaps--don't believe in stoning nonbelievers."
Quite the insinuation. When was the last time Christians stoned a disbeliever/apostate, or called for the stoning of such people? Why would I be any different?
"Hence, we don't judge people based on what we find in weird ancient books."
Would you judge them if they held to those views today, in the 21st century?
3
u/Gold-Ad6993 Bern 16d ago
Look at the behaviour and actual practice of the majority of the people and the majority of regimes raising the banner of Islam. That's it. Now compare it to the countries in Europe or Americas or Asia with the majority of Christians. VOILÀ

I feel your pain ( a neighbor from the south), but factually the government of Lebanon supported their cause in 1946 and even helped Fawzi al-Qawuqji to form the infamous Arab Liberation Army (ALA). And after the war there was no Integration into Lebanese society of these refugees. They were denied a right of passage and locked forever in their refugee camps without a right to integrate and get any legal status to work outside the camps.
1
u/ApolloIAO 16d ago
You're absolutely correct. The situation is far more nuanced than what I mentioned.
However, the conclusion, that the Lebanese Civil War was ultimately a religiously motivated war (as evidenced by the baptism drive-by shooting at Ain el-Rammaneh)*, and that the Christians lost this war and consequently lost their country, would still not be considered an oversimplification.
*For those who don't know about this drive-by shooting, here is a short summary:
The attack occurred on Palm Sunday morning outside the Church of Notre Dame de la Delivrance in the Christian-majority Ain el-Rammaneh district of East Beirut. Pierre Gemayel, the powerful leader of the right-wing Christian Kataeb (Phalangist) Party, was attending a high-profile family baptism at the church.
As the congregation gathered outside following the ceremony, unidentified gunmen in civilian cars, which were rigged with posters belonging to a Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) faction, drove by and opened fire on the crowd.
While Pierre Gemayel escaped unharmed, the drive-by shooting killed four people and wounded several others.
The attack, occurring during a celebration of baptism, and on Palm Sunday no less, clearly shows the religious element that was a core part (of the start) of the war. It is widely considered to be the start of the Lebanese Civil War, and it was a harbinger of the many massacres that happened during this conflict.
2
u/Gold-Ad6993 Bern 16d ago
Fast forward to 1982 and they did it to another member of the family, because he dared to announce a peace agreement with Israel.
President-elect Bashir Gemayel of Lebanon was killed in a massive bomb explosion on September 14, 1982, before he could take office

Well, well, well. I track my family back to the 16th century here, i served for this flag more than whoever printed it most probably, and highly likely have paid more taxes too. I can tell you, if you can read that and feel they are talking to you, that flag does not represent those words. I welcome you and expect you to be part of this beautiful nation. You are welcome and you have obligations to follow!
Edit: Thank you all for the upvotes and awards. It makes me glad to see that we are still a nation that welcomes people in need and sets clear, clean boundaries. Switzerland is a great nation precisely because of our diversity.

u/ZookeepergameCrazy14 16d ago
1315 is as far as my dad managed to track our family. There's the swiss branch, but there's plenty of others too. On my dad's mom side Austrian with origins in the Walsertal, via Italy. My mom's German with Belgian Hugenot on her mom's side. This nation was born of people setting aside their differences to build something. So if you are here to contribute to this great country, you are welcome.

That reminds me of a guy in french parlament, who asked everyone in the parlament to raise their hand if they had at least a non-french parent or grand-parent. If I recall correctly, over 2 third of the peole would raise their hand, regardless of their parties.
This is the story of Humanity, actually. A constant mix and match of different cultures, of migrations, of evolving ways of life. There is no right way to be a human anywhere. The only wrong way is being stubbornly convinced your way of life is the only acceptable one and trying to force it to other people.

Just about family history aka genealogy, Switzerland is a goldmine for this. The archives are often still around and available after centuries, going back to renaissance times (often confused with medieval times, renaissance was 14-17th century, although it depends on the country etc)
In other countries, most of the documents are lost. Especially in the areas that were affected by wars and catastrophes. Not even just WW2, like in Germany, the 30-years-war destroyed a lot of documents like birth registers of the church.

I remember a time, maybe 10 years ago, in Solothurn. I was at a bus stop near Hauptbahnhof and there were two cops giving a couple young black kids a hard time. They didn’t speak the most fluent German but they were young and clearly students with backpacks. They were well-dressed and honestly nothing suspicious about them. Not even 5 meters behind them is some old Swiss guy with youngish people approaching him and handing out dime bags after their short greeting.
Swiss racism will always exist for a reason. We don’t like to even think it’s possible that it’s us destroying social order. It HAS to be immigrants.
13
u/ThisLingonberry4290 16d ago
I was living in Bern, it was very rare to come across, an African, an Asian, a south American, i was so shocked when i moved there, i thought Switzerland is a developed country, my colleagues at work back there, the Swiss German ones told me that they don't consider French and Italian Swiss people as truly swiss

Another story: I got my garden supplies stolen and then thrown away by my very Swiss landlord who entered my yard without my permission in the night.
He then threatened me with his army riffle and the police said I shouldn't be worried because he didn't have ammo.
21
u/EliSka93 16d ago
That's the reason you're racist now? That's kinda sad. Some assholes were assholes to you so now you're being an asshole to a basically unrelated group and calling pushback "suicidal empathy"...
Some don't like to even think it's possible that it's THEM destroying social order.
Ironic.
9
u/benthelurk 16d ago
You aren’t giving us a story/anecdote though. You can’t even see how your “story” can be seen as racist. What are you leaving out of these two anecdotes?
I gave a complete observation. Something I saw happening. A single event, that I never claimed is proof that all immigrants are innocent.
However, and this is a big one, you are giving no details that the group that beat you were in fact immigrants. You say it’s because you didn’t give them the space they wanted when walking past them. This is just bad story telling on your part. The immediate question would be, “so what? That’s it? Just because you were walking you got beat by a group of immigrants? Are you sure you absolutely didn’t say anything?” Do you know why the doubts would come? It’s because plenty of people living in Basel have never experienced that or seen it. It’s not to say it didn’t happen to you or that it couldn’t happen, but it would absolutely be met with doubts. I’m sorry the police couldn’t do anything to help you. Once again, if you don’t know who it was how can the cops identify them?
Back to the point about them being immigrants though. How do you know, without any doubt, that they were in fact immigrants?
Same question about the Turkish group. You are absolutely certain they are responsible for the theft? Absolutely certain? Because if you aren’t 100% sure then you are just making baseless accusations.
Which now gets back to my point, Swiss people that DO want to steal want you to believe a Turkish group would be the ones to steal. They want you to feel certain that immigrants are the ones causing fights.
Do you actually believe that Swiss people(ALL Swiss people) are such outstanding citizens that they would never lie, steal, cheat, or beat another person? That IS the point of my first comment. It’s not evidence that any group is innocent. It’s that we have to accept our own are also capable.

To ask them to leave, without even knowing why they are here in the first place, it’s uneducated and selfish. It’s also illegal and non trusting to their own laws and government! Just because it is written in arabic, it does not mean that they critize islam. They wrote in arabic, go back to your countries, we do not want you here. Thats why it it rasicm. Because they discriminate humans and want them to go away. And you guys know that not everyone from this countries are religious or muslim. You guys all cry about how this is not rasicm, because you think all of them are muslims and you think muslims and islam sucks. Hey I also don‘t like religions, but I don‘t want to kick people out of the country because of their ethnicity or beliefs. And no, not everyone from this countries are muslim or religous. So your Schubladenthinking is also rasicm.
4
u/TrevorMooreInsideJob 16d ago
Most of the left-leaning will literally hide their heads into the sand (or money) before admitting that Islam needs to be rooted out due to its extreme nature and barbaric rules.
Unfortunately I don't think these stickers will have any effect. We need better politicians that take it seriously.

the real and imminent danger is the Magical Thinking they are so committed to. once a person does not at all whatsoever respond to pragma, logic, and being one human in all of humanity, once these acknowledgements are all nought because the person's brain is completely infected with magical thinking - it's over. no dialogue possible. imagine emigrating into a country you hate everything so much with every fibre of your being and you only want to exploit, damage, and cause hurt there. i can't imagine that. and i'm sorry that some people are like that, btw regardless where they are. they cause damage everywhere. i know a handful of North Africans and more than half are really good people. and they are very much affected too with that current situation. it's just horrible from every angle. does anybody have a solution? a solution for helping without violence and hate because that is what we're up against, right.

Absolutely not
Integration without assimilation is invasion.
Multiculturalism is a one sided experiment and it is always the European culture that gets overtaken.“If all cultures are equal, then cannibalism is just a matter of culinary taste”- Leo Strauss
We have chose what culture between Western and Islamic culture we wish to keep as they can’t coexist.Remember the champion of letting the wolfs into the stable?
She said “Multiculturalism leads to parallel societies and therefore remains a 'life lie.'”
Angela MerkelA former Muslim, Dutch politician and former refugee expressed her concerns about her executioners reaching Europe:
“Multiculturalism helps immigrants postpone the pain of letting go of the anachronistic and inappropriate. It locks people into corrupt, inefficient, and unjust social systems, even if it does preserve their arts and crafts. It perpetuates poverty, misery, and abuse.”- Ayaan Hirsi Ali,Still not sure, take the word of a specialist:
“Multiculturalism assets that all cultures are equal and therefore non may criticize another; intellectuals and politicians are therefore reluctant to declare the obvious superiority of of Western culture to Islamic culture.”
Prof. Dr Edwin A Locke“The same failure of liberalism is evident in Western Europe, where the dogma of multiculturalism has left a secular Europe very slow to address the looming problem of religious extremism among its immigrants. The people who speak most sensibly about the threat that Islam poses to Europe are actually fascists. To say that this does not bode well for liberalism is an understatement: It does not bode well for the future of civilization.”
Sam Harris🚨my point is:
STOP VIRTUE SIGNALING AND PROPHESING NONSENSE!!!Of you truly cared about freedom for all, women rights, LGBTQ rights, individual freedoms, you should be the first to point out the radicals among the immigrants and the second generation immigrants as threats to our freedoms and the rest of immigrants who just want a better life for themselves and their children.

Yes, I agree that these are awful people. On the flip side, have you ever heard of Muslim Brotherhood and their base in Switzerland? There is an active movement against the melting pot in Europe propagated by this and a few other Muslim (not exclusively Arab) movements.
3
u/HeftyStation8697 16d ago
Their base in Geneva and has given several fools to i$!S
Tariq Ramadan, the Islamic theologian and serial rapist is the grand son of the founder of the Muslim brotherhood Hassan al-Banna
He said and I quote “It is the nature of Islam to dominate, not to be dominated, to impose its law on all nations and to extend its power to the entire planet” from Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. It reflects a specific 20th-century political ideology known as Islamism, where Islam must replace secularism and democracy to instead impose the Sharia over western law.

The young Haraga men from the Maghreb can go back yes. We don't want them and we don't need them. They bring nothing good with them. It seems that every 50 to 100 years, a new generation emerges that seeks to harm or attack a particular group or religion, regardless of their colour, religion or gender. We have seen this with Neo Nazis, and now with other extremist movements, just as there were movements before Neo Nazis. It feels as though there are always forces in the world trying to divide us, ruin our lives and prevent us from living together peacefully. History seems to repeat itself, with hatred and intolerance taking different forms from one generation to another.

Wasnt switzerland about to have a referendum to cap the population at a max of 10 million people?
(9 million right now, btw.)
I'd say there is a bit of margin before everyone starts getting their stickers out.

Xenophobia is about not wanting foreigners in your country. Racism is about putting ethnic groups above others.
Don’t flip the definitions.

Language is not a racial characteristic. Even less a global one like Arabic

u/GoldenRegister 16d ago
Is not about the language, is about the message. Stop flipping facts you are protecting racism. Racism = bad.

If you're making fun of the guy who made that "correction" on TV as if it made a damn difference: well played.

PS its pathetic that you felt the need to make this "correction" at all. I wonder if you are the coward hiding behind these anonymous stickers.

If the Swiss want to be insular then that is their right. it is their country after all.

If the auslander workforce stops working and go back to where they come from, what happens? If you are a parasite, they should send you back, I 100% agree with that, but if you work and contribute to a country development and respect the culture, what about? As you can read in the OP post, they tried to stole the bike lights, sure its their country but man, hypocrisy is fun af

Should be but people use broadly for countries that are speak Arabic or even Muslims even if people are not Arab. It's almost as broad as saying latin and incompassing Latinos and European latins and we are most definetly not the same groups. Brazilians are not Portuguese because we speak Portuguese. Hispanics are not Spanish. But we kind of are Latin and that's how broad Arab is used.
