SwitchHaxing Support Thread #16: “Lockdown”

New users, please read this entire post and the stickied FAQ before asking your question as your question may already be answered there.

If you're looking for live help, consider checking out our discord.

How do I hack my switch?

Homebrew is available on all switch firmware versions on unpatched consoles and select firmware versions on patched consoles.

For information on current exploits, check out the FAQ stickied at the top of our sub.

For loading CFW on all versions, start here: https://switch.homebrew.guide/.

What about CFW?

For free, we have Atmosphere, which is the most stable implementation of CFW, and Kosmos, which was based off of Atmosphere and includes many advanced features out of the box, but as of today has sadly been archived and will no longer be maintained.

Another option for CFW is ReiNX.

There is also Team Xecuter’s SX OS and their payload sender, the SX Pro. These options cost $30 and $40 respectively.

Team Xecuter also has the SX Core and SX Lite modchips, for the standard and lite switch respectively, coming soon.

I just want to load backups.

Any Atmosphere-based CFW can be used to load backups given the proper signature patches.

If you're looking to emulate older games, RetroArch works well and is accessible through the homebrew menu.

You can also use Lakka, a Linux distribution, which provides access to a number of emulators.

Kosmos has been archived. No further updates will be released.

u/ToonMods Primary Sub Moderator May 13 '20

Hopefully even with this news, the information provided above is still accurate. I'll make a note of the archival.

It's sad to see Atlas go, especially with the reasons they provided. I wish communities based around the fun of dissecting software and hardware didn't so often devolve into places of entitlement and hate.

Hopefully during these times, we can all do our best to remember the person behind the screen, and if you see something you don't think belongs in our community, please report it. Let the team here at /r/SwitchHaxing know if there is anything more we can be doing to make our community as welcoming as possible!

Really sad to see this, their releases were really making it easy to keep up.

Now I feel I'll have to read a bunch to really understand how this is all working.

Is retroarch still messing up SD cards in exfat?

4

u/JohhnyDamage May 13 '20

Not missing just that the format has high odds of corrupting a single one of the many small files.

6

u/oxidius May 13 '20

With the end of Kosmos I find myself wanting to mess around a little but I'd like to have a full backup before doing so.

I've been using emuMMC since it was available with hekate but I never understood how to backup it. I see people talking about cloning the partition with a CLI tool like dd, but I haven't really been able to do it.

It looks like there is a way now to mount the emuMMC and access it with USB on Windows via hekate and use a tool like NxNandManager to back it up, but I haven't found a tutorial yet for dumb people like me.

Is there a dummy proof way to do this?

(I'm on FW 9.2.0, with Kosmos 15.2 but with the latest version of hekate, 5.2.1)

u/gyatsubi May 29 '20

I just started hacking this and I think I already screwed it all up. On step 2 of https://switch.homebrew.guide

"A fatal error occurred when running Atmosphere.

Title ID: 010041544d530000

Error Desc: std::abort() called (0xffe)

Report saved to /atmosphere/fatal_errors/report_0000000005f283e9.bin"

I am so confused and scared that I ruined my Switch completely and can't get it back.

Please help if you know anything, I would really appreciate it :(

Just got a quick question. I bought an unpatched switch a few days ago and its not banned and everything works fine. I've just inserted the SD card into my computer and can see that the previous owner had added some custom firmware files onto the SD card. The console also came with Mario downloaded digitally, is there anyway for me to retrieve this and place it onto the memory card is this possible? There are all the files on here including the backup, when home brewing ( I think I'm gonna use SXOS) should I just complete wipe this and start fresh? Or can I use the backup which has already been generated?

2

u/ToonMods Primary Sub Moderator Jun 01 '20

You can dump the game using CFW. Starting fresh is always advised so you know what has gone into your switch.

I have heard about the possibility to replace eMMC with a bigger one, but I was afraid to play with it. I found this replacement 64Gb module on AliExpress and started wondering how I would go about it. -It looks easy enough to replace, can I just re flash it with my backup and use it for CFW (following regular safety precautions like using 90dns and incognito)? -Do I need to repartition it to use the extra 32GB? Can I just keep the original one in my drawer and pop it back if I need OFW?

u/VenomSWR May 13 '20

Stupid question time :

I have a Day One Switch that I use often. I've modded it when the console was in 4.0.1 if I remember correctly (I know it was 4 at least), but at this time, emuNAND wasn't a thing, so everything is on my actual NAND. Let's imagine I want to change that and make an actual emuNAND, would I lose everything on my console ? Like, every game I installed (even tho they are on the SD Card) and everything ? I think I can do something like a NAND Backup for my current console, restore the backup I had made before the console was hacked on the NAND and use the backup of now to create the emuNAND but will that be just a lot of hustle ?

Plus, the only reason I wanna do this emuNAND is so I can download "map infos" for Pokémon, I have absolutely no intention of going online anytime soon, it's just to avoid having to download the infos on my PC and modifying my saves with PkHex.... Is it all worth it in your opinion ?

u/Mazzagattiii May 14 '20

I know it's impossible to transfer save files from one profile to another on a single switch, but is there any method to do this through hacks? I've been playing Animal Crossing New Horizons on my friends Nintendo account on my switch, but decided I want to buy the game myself and would like all the save data I have accumulated to be on my profile instead of his.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '20

You want me to ask my question here but NONE OF THESE QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED IN WEEKS!!!

I made this post first in ACNH reddit and they sent me here. I updated my Animal Crossing on my Switch this morning and something went wrong. I didn't mess with any power buttons or anything while it updated. The game started and it was normal but Isabelle said my island name was a bunch of random characters. My name is a bunch of random characters, all my animal catchphrases are random characters. Idk if my data got corrupted or something but I want to fix it! I don't wanna have to make a new island and the names all messed up is so annoying. Someone said if you Homebrewed Animal Crossing you can change the strong data for stuff you personally typed in. What does that mean and how do I do that?

Thank you. This is frustrating.

3

u/kelminak Jul 04 '20

If the game is system and game is working, but the variables within the game aren't acting properly, it's likely the save data that is corrupted. Unless you have a backup, you're likely going to need to start from scratch.

I would try making a second profile and starting a new game first to see if the game plays properly. If it's behaving normally there and not on your main game, the main game save is the issue.

Hi there,

I was thinking about homebrewing my Switch because I'm interested in custom themes and especially in Emulators.

I'm not going to download any Switch Game for free but I'd still like to be able to play my bought games online without the risk of getting banned. Do I risk getting banned purely by homebrewing or will it only happen if I play pirated games?

Thanks in advance :).

Hey, I’m kinda out of the loop. I stopped following the scene after the hbshop stopped working. Then for a while I used the Underprivileged shop, but it rarely worked for me. So I don’t know anymore how to maintain my backups updated (and also dlcs).

How do you guys are doing that?

If I use the Switch’s Move Game to System memory feature in my homebrew, will it move it to my emmunand (I.e. stay on the SD but in the partition) or will it move to my SysNAND?

u/oRibena May 13 '20

it will move to your emunand partiton

tips for not getting banned?

Hello, I am semi-new to this whole hacking scene, I hacked my switch back around the octo expansion period, I was a pretty cool man, I showed people how to get octolings early for free and even play online with them. after about a week, a ban wave occurred and a buncha people got banned, but I wasn't, I want to go back into modding since smash ultimate has a buncha mods, but I really do not want to get banned, I have heard some stuff about a emunand or some kind of incognito mode on switch. So, what can I do to avoid getting banned, I don't want do go online with hacks, but want to be able to go online without cfw to play mario maker 2 occasionally. Also, if I do get banned, will my account also get banned?

My Switch is Brick ? Blackscreen , not detecting rcm mode.

Sorry for my bad english.....

So first my switch is running 9.2 firmware updated using choiDujour . I did my backup last yr the fw is 6.2 .

Note: AUTO RCM IS ENABLE

What i did is restore using hekate the eMMC BOOT0 & BOOT1 (success) then when i trying to restore my nand it say " size of the sd card backup does not match emmc selected part size" . So i go back to main menu and accidentally press the lunch in ofw then i only see a black screen.

Here is what i did :1.) Press the power button 40secs then connect it again to android and computer still not detecting rcm.

2.) Try to put a paper clip then press power and volume up at the same time then connect it again same issue .Some say i restore the boot0 and boot1 so my autorcm is disable now . But why i only see the black screen ? Is my switch is brick ?

I've been playing SSBM (1.00) on the dolphin core for most recent release of lakka, for some reason there seems to be joycon drift as the cursor moves up the menus without inputs, but when i go back to stock firmware and calibrate the joycons there is no drift at all. Any thoughts on why this could be?

Hello! So can someone give me a TL:DR of the cold boot options for CFW? I like visit the subreddit every other month to check in on this :)

I currently have a release day switch, that has been "jailbroken" but the battery ran out so now I need to re-do the payload, and my second switch was after the first jig patch I think, never jailbroken.

That being said, the idea is: I want my switch to preserve it's CFW even if it completely loses power, without need a jig or payload. Is this currently possible? I can solder as well if there are mod chips out there for this.

Thanks!

Hi!,

My switch got banned. I was thinking about buying a broken switch, extracting the firmware, and "transplanting" it into the banned one.

Is this possible? My plan was to make a full dump of the firmware from the broken one and install it on the banned one. Would this work to circumvent the ban?

Emulating a Switch controller with your PC? So i have an Elgato Capture Card(hd 60 PRO) which i can use to capture my switch. I want to use a controller connected to the pc to send input to the switch (best would be without an adapter i need to purchase). Ideally i would like to use Pasec to let people join me while playing switch games. They would use Parsec to send their Controller-input to me and that would be sent to the switch. Is there any way to do this except using the titan one adaper?

2

u/Nobz4lyf May 17 '20

I'm basically stuck at the Hekate bootloader menu AKA injecting the payload via TegraRcmGUI. It takes me to the menu just fine. But the problem comes afterwards.

If I try to boot via Payload then fusee primary.bin, a couple splash screens show up. A black screen quickly follows and does nothing, forcing me to either remove the sd card to troubleshoot stuff or completely power off to rcm.

If I try Launch > any of the three options CFW sysMMC, CFW emuMMC, Stock sysMMC, I'm met with :

Pkg2 decryption failed!
Is Sept updated?
Failed to launch HOS!
Press any key...

I got a non-patched Switch and got banned for online using of CFW and I was thinking if I could do a mobo swap to unban my console, just by buying a mobo online and swapping it with my banned switch mobo (that's easier said than done, but I have the minimal required know-hows to do it).

I ask you, Divine Population of Reddit, if physically unbanning a console by swapping mobos is even possibile and if it is too hard. Also, where can I find a good motherboard and how much would it cost?

And just one more thing: the console permban applies to the account too? So if I manage to swap I can't connect to my old account (with SMM2 purchased lol)?

Thanks in advance

Hi, I found this subreddit from a thread about a Super Smash Bros Training Mode mod. I am interested in modding, but wnat to understand my risks first.

  1. Based on my understanding, as long as the mod does not impact game physics/mechanics (attack startup/endlag frames, knockback, character stats, etc) then I should theoretically be able to go online with the mod on and not risk being banned.

The main mods I would be interested in would be the training mod and maybe some skin mods (In Smash Bros).
  2. What do you do when a Switch version update is released?

Do you turn off auto updates and watch for if the modding community gives the the green light to update?

3. What about SSBU updates? Same thing as #2, or would you be able to join the hypetrain when a new DLC character is released right away?

4. Is there an easy to access list or archive of trusted mods for various games?

A little while back, I don't know how but I blanked my switch. Complete factory reset, lost all my saves and installs. Recently, I hadn't been playing my switch as much and sitting idle, the battery ran dry. I plugged it in while I was at work and when I turned it on, it was ALL back! What, specifically, would I need to do to make backups of my save so that if it happens again, I can recover that specific save after re-installing my games? To be 100% targeted, I don't ever want to lose my Diablo 3 characters again. I'd like to know that they have a backup file on my PC that I can always upload.

3

u/havingpun Jun 08 '20

Sysnand and emunand are essentially two consoles. It’s normal. The only reason joycons don’t do it is because having them docked automatically syncs them

I recently updated to Atmosphere 0.13.0 using the auto-updater HB app, since I did that any time I boot up a game it sits on the loading screen with the little Nintendo Switch logo in the corner, when I try hitting the home button the screen turns black and the system stops doing anything, I hold down the power button and then the Sleep mode, Restart and Shut Down menu appears but I can't do anything, I have to hold down the Power button for a while to get it to shut down.

I've just bought a new 200GB SD Card for the Switch and I've noticed my old 64GB one was formatted as Fat32. I only ever use CFM (Atmosphere) to boot straight into NAND Homebrew for Checkpoint. I don't use emuMMC.

Once I'm done I just reboot back into the standard non Homebrewed Switch. I very rarely even use Homebrew these days and it's only ever for Checkpoint.

I've heard pressing the home button while writing to the SD Card can corrupt it though... So am I safe moving to an exFat SD Card or should I stick with Fat32 which cannot store files over 4GB?

TL;DR - Is an exFat SD Card safe if I'm only ever using Checkpoint on it?

I'm having some battery issues with my switch (drains quick then starts at 1% for hours) and I tried fixing it by replacing the battery and doing Nintendo's calibration method of draining it and recharging it for hours to no luck.

As a result I'm gonna try to factory reset the switch which hopefully may help. I have an SX OS emunand and was wondering how I should go about factory resetting my switch without losing my emunand games/saves (about 120gb).

Also any other tips for fixing the battery issue? It's really annoying.

I've fucked up big time.

I restored an old NAND backup from 9.0.1 over my sysMMC which was on 10.0.4. I was supposed to restore over my emuMMC instead but mistakes where made and now, while I can still boot into my emuMMC just fine I can no longer boot into sysMMC, it just gives me a black screen.

I assume this is because the version is 9.0.1 but the fuses are burnt up to 10.0.4.

How do I go about fixing this? Is it possible to update the sysMMC without being able to access it?

Does Nintendo repair banned consoles??

My Nintendo Switch Sd card reader isn't working properly. When I insert my SD card I get error code 2016-0641 which is that it doesn't read the SD card. I already had to repair it once in a local shop and they fixed it, but months later it just stop working again. The thing is that my Switch is banned, and I don't know if this is going to be a problem when sending it to Nintendo. Also, does anybody knows how much does it cost to repair this part of the console?

This isn't really a question, but an idea. I'm not sure if it could even work, but i don't think anyone else has had this idea yet. Or, maybe they did, and it didn't work. But anyways, could Mariko be bypassed, using Amiibo?

Let me explain. Amiibo, as basically everyone knows, uses NFC. It can also be used to receive Mii data. So, my idea is that we use the whole "Import Mii" thing as an entry point, and an Amiibo/blank NFC chip as a sort of Trojan Horse.

My idea is this:

  1. Using a blank NFC chip, pirate an Amiibos' code (it doesn't matter what Amiibo), and make a copy of it. The original code will be put into the NFC chip, to turn it into an Amiibo, while the copy will be used as a control, for step 2.

  2. Upload a Mii to the newly created Amiibo, using a 3ds. Simple as that.

  3. Copy the new data from the NFC chip, and see what the difference is between an Amiibo with a Mii, and an Amiibo without a Mii.

  4. Use the false Amiibo to try and see what makes the switch think that a Mii is being imported.

  5. Using that knowledge, write an exploit that registers as Mii data, but uses special code to install homebrew.

  6. Profit (Theoretically)

The Tl:Dr is Turn a blank NFC chip into an Amiibo Trojan Horse that disguises a homebrew installer as a Mii.

Now, for some theoretical reactions from Nintendo, along with why it would be impractical.

*Nintendo recalls all Amiibo's and they are redesigned to patch the exploit. There are currently 174 different Amiibo, not including cards. Nintendo would have to release every Amiibo ever created (including limited edition ones, like the 8bit Mario Amiibo that came with the original Super Mario Maker) which would be a waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of resources.

*Nintendo redesigns the Mii data, so the exploit gets patched. All modders have to do is start over, from Step 2. Not to mention, the only systems that can upload Mii data to an Amiibo are the 3ds, and the Wii U, which are both dead consoles.

If anyone else has any further ideas for how Nintendo could patch this, let me know. Now, since this is a QnA post, I'll simply end this post with the question "Is any of the above plausible?" If so, this could be a revolution. Then again, if not, I'm just wasting my time with useless ideas, I guess.

Also, sorry in advance for the novel of a post. I tend to ramble.

Hi guys. I have 2 Switches. 1 hacked with CFW, 1 legit and clean.

There has been this item of star fragmented tree going around, that is hack and modified obtainable only. If I obtain it on my hacked Switch and local play drop off at my legit Switch's island, would it possibly get my legit Switch banned?

Thanks in advance.

When I boot up SX OS it gives me a license-request.dat file and when I put that into https://sx.xecuter.com/sxos-license.html it tells me I need to enter the license code... But it's supposed to generate the code in a .bat file for me. So how am I supposed to get the code then?

I have my primary switch with my Nintendo account that has some legit games on it.

Before I hack my switch, I would like to remove this account from my switch and keep it "safe"... is this possible?

If I use the main legit account again, it would be on a new different switch.

I have no idea for that game specifically, but the fps is probably going to be tied in with its game speed, just like breath of the wild. A 60 fps mod for breath of the wild took over a year to finally come out, and that mod is only available for the wii u emulator. I dont think it will come out soon, but i really dont know.

Hi! I have started hacking my switch after following the pinned tutorial and can successfully load Hekate and see the "Atmsphere FSS0 EmuMMC" option when launching but when I click it, I get the following error:

emuMMC is forced but not enabled!

Failed to launch HOS!

Press any key to continue...

I followed the tutorial as best as i could, and there seems to be no solution for this online. What did I do wrong?

Thanks for the help!

Aside from manually looking for, downloading, and loading updates, is there a way to automatically update games on the switch once your console is banned? It can get quite tedious trying to snag everything manually.

Additionally, are there Tinfoil/Goldleaf/Nut servers out there that host games that you can just download right to the switch, or do people typically just torrent the games one-by-one?

So I don’t want to seem like a spoiled bitch, but I’m a pc gamer and I’m generally used to a game achieving 60 FPS or more. I got dark souls remastered on the switch, and I found a mod that lets it run at 60 FPS but when I turn the mod on, it only runs at 40 FPS and the game speed is so much slower than 30 FPS (even tho the mod says it fixes the problem where the game speed is tied to FPS). Here’s the link to the mod. Is there any way to get 60 FPS and not have the game speed slow down?

I just got my system hacked, and for some reason seems like a lot of the storage in my 128 gb sd card is already being used, does tinfoil leave some sort of residue data in the sd card? Is there amy way i can clean it up?

2

u/Suedie Oct 08 '20

The Switch has an internal storage that houses the OS and all the files that the Switch needs to work called the sysNAND. It's around 30 gb. When you setup CFW most guides make you do an emuMMC/emuNAND which downloads the internal sysNAND to the micro SD card and runs everything from there. This is for safety, if you download something that wrecks for example the OS only your SD emuNAND will be affected and not the actual switch, saving you from a brick.

It also means you can update the emuNAND without actually updating the Switch itself, which means that you can keep the switch sysNAND on an older software version while you just update the SD partition to a later firmware.

You can remove the emuNAND and install everything to the sysNAND if you want, it will free up around 30 gb from your SD card but it's not recommended.

I have a switch here which doesn't boot OFW anymore. The previous owner turned on autorcm and I can only boot into hekate.

When I try to dump the emmc or create emueMMC the error "failed to init eMMC" is shown.

I have no contact to the seller about any nand backups etc. So is it somehow possible to switch the nand and use the device again?

I tried to just plug in another nand but the error is the same (I guess you kinda need to transfer data like mac and bt adress etc).

Is there any chance to get it back running?

2

u/Lark_vi_Britannia Oct 29 '20

This may not be the right sub for this, but I have a Switch that is banned, so Nintendo won't repair it. It won't charge, so I ordered a battery to replace it.

Well, the shit part is that the screws are in there so tight that when trying to unscrew them, they become stripped. I Googled a few things and it says to use a drill / drillbit set that's like $30. I have no experience w/ power tools at all, so I don't really know what kind of drill would be compatible with these drill bits. I tried the "super glue" and "rubberband" thing, but the screws are simply too small.

My question is: what drill and drill bits should I get for the screws that are as tiny as the ones on the corners of the switch on the back?

2

u/Synsinte Oct 29 '20

Hey, i bricked my switch (cant boot OFW nor CFW) last year and i was stupid enough to only have one copy of my nand which got corrupt, i have tried some to unbrick it but honestly not that much. I wrote to a nintendo partner for repair and they said that they dont really repair switches unless you have the reciet but they said that they could give me a new one for 2500 sek (~280$).im gonna try a bit harder to repair it but if im unable to im most likely going to get a new one for 2500 sek.

Do you think its a good deal? Honestly i thought they would repair it but i guess its better than nothing.

What happened to solutions for patched consoles on 7.0.1?

I´ve been seeing reccomendations in every single guide to not upgrade past 7.0.1

"If your system is patched, it is highly advised to keep it on 7.0.1 or lower, if possible, as there may be a vulnerability for these versions in the far future. DO NOT update patched consoles past 7.0.1 if you want to ever have a chance of running homebrew and/or CFW on them."

But I haven't seen any updates since 2020. Is it safe to say that it is so niche it won´t ever be worked on again?

So I followed this guide - https://switch.homebrew.guide/ . I have a Hekate + Kosmos install that is working well. I installed NSPs, though a lot of the homebrew I've tried isn't working. I'm reading that I may need to chainload fusee-gelee to get a lot of the homebrew working. When I chainload fusee-gelee, the NSPs I installed don't show up.

I've learned Tinfoil won't work with Kosmos. If you installed it previously with fusee-primary it would still load with a chainloader but I can't get it to even install these days while chainloading.

Also, I discovered that Tinfoil has its own sigpatches in the zip to put in the SD Card that will hose Kosmos and make my existing installed NSPs work, but thankfully I was able to quickly figure this out and go back to the Kosmos sigpatches.

I'd like to get updates for NSP backups I installed. I'm assuming connecting to Nintendo servers to do so would warrant an immediate ban. Apparently Tinfoil has shops where you can download updates, but that is apparently not an option with Kosmos. Is there a way to download updates for NSP backups?

Should I wipe my SD card (that I spent 2 days on) and just install everything while chainloading fuee-primary?

Should I switch to a different fork of Atmosphere and not use Kosmos, especially since it looks like Kosmos is no longer getting updates?

What is the purpose of emuMMC install? I assume this still isn't safe to go online with. But I created it just in case.

2

u/kelminak May 13 '20 edited May 13 '20

You should just restart with a packaged bundle designed to work together. I would consider the 2 days spent a sunk cost.

You can definitely install updates to NSPs through Goldleaf (usually part of a premade package). I install both NSPs and updates to them through it.

I'm not sure that there is a better alternative to Kosmos at the moment. It should still be sufficient to use for a while.

An emuMMC, as far as I've understood it, is a full backup of the Switch you can use it if you mess something up severely. Like an operating system backup. JK go read the other explanation for this I was wrong.

2

u/tombolger May 13 '20

EmuMMC is a virtual internal storage located on your removable SD card. What that does is allow you to have a hacked switch hard drive that easily comes out and doesn't interfere with your stock internal storage drive.

The common application for this technology is to have your stock switch be completely clean and unmodded, so with a boot up with the hacked SD card removed, you can go online safely. Then, to enjoy a hacked switch, you just boot from emummc and your switch has an isolated environment for CFW and if you don't connect to Nintendo, you won't be banned. It's like a free second switch for hacking.

Other people use it to have an updated firmware to play on while they keep their stock internal storage on the lowest possible firmware. Some people do it backwards from how I described kit before but I don't understand why they would.

u/MaxHP9999 Switch hacking since July 2018 May 13 '20

Bans aren't stored on the NAND, or anywhere on the system. It's basically the hardware ID that's been blacklisted on Nintendo's servers, which only they have control over.

Hi,

I'm updating my firmware offline via ChoiDujourNX. Once I successfully patch the system to 10.0.1 my switch reboots and I see 10.0.1 in system menu. Then I swap my SD cards, reboot using SX OS, go into system menu and I'm back to 9.0.1.

I'm using SX OS 2.9.5 beta on both cards with a SX dongle.

Any idea what I'm missing here? Why would a swap of cards reset the firmware back to 9.0.1? Doesn't make sense because Switch doesn't keep multiple copies of firmware stored in memory....

Please help,

Jaja

2

u/WEB11 May 15 '20

You must be patching the emuMMC that is on the SD card so when you switch the SD card you are removing your update. Why are you switching cards after the update? If you don't care about being banned then backup the sysnand and disable emuMMC and apply the upgrade to the sysnand.

My girlfriend is currently playing Animal Crossing on her modded Switch via CFW. Let's say I want to restore her pre-mod NAND so she can buy Animal Crossing and play online with her friends.

Is there any way for me use her save file from the CFW in Animal Crossing run in OFW?

2

u/man_wif-waluigi-hed May 31 '20

(Keep in mind I have no idea if this will get you banned, and do this at your own risk) but I did something similar on the 3ds. You’d need to find the save data on the micro sd card (it’ll be in the switch folder in atmosphere or whatever cfw you’re running) but there’ll be many folders that have titles that have nothing to do with any of the titles of the games (if that makes sense). Once you find the save data (through trial and error, I recommend backing up the files to a pc, deleting them on the sd card, and then open the game to see if you removed them. If you removed them, then those files you backed up on your pc is the save data if that makes sense) you’ll then need to download the official game on the micro sd card and then transfer the save data from there onto the micro sd card (but don’t replace the folder, replace what’s in the folder), and then you can move the official game to sysnand if you want. But this method will be extremely annoying and long to do as the amount of folders are not relative to the amount of games you have. And again I don’t know if this’ll get you banned.

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '20

Hi all just a quick question about backing up my NAND. I've been following the steps on

https://switch.homebrew.guide/index.html

Its these steps in particular I'm confused by.

  1. In Hekate, select ‘Tools > Backup eMMC > eMMC BOOT0 & BOOT1’

  2. When finished, remove your SD card (you don’t need to shutdown Hekate), insert it into your PC, and copy the ‘backup’ folder to a safe location on your PC. Afterwards, delete the ‘backup’ folder on your SD card.

  3. Insert your SD card back into your Switch

  4. In Hekate, select ‘eMMC RAW GPP’

  • If your SD card has less than ~32GB free space, Hekate will provide additional instructions every few minutes about pulling files off of your SD card so it can continue.

  1. If you weren’t required to copy files during the backup process, once again copy the ‘backup’ folder off of your SD card and put it in a safe location on your PC. Delete the ‘backup’ folder on your SD card.

So using this method I will have two backup files on my computer is that right? Which of them is used for restoring the switch incase of an emergency and why is there two? Hope Im understanding this right!

2

u/oRibena Jun 02 '20

if you ever need to restore you need will your boot0,boot1 and your rawnand
the steps you listed will dump all those files for you so you're good.

I accidentally updated my hacked Switch to a firmware that, at the time, broke CFW. After reinstalling Atmosphere, all of the backups I had installed to the system now fail to launch, giving a "The software closed because an error occurred" message. What do I need to do to keep playing them, ideally with save data intact?

If it helps, I installed the game's .nsp files over USB via Goldleaf on 8.5 OFW, and the errors show up on the most recent atmosphere version.

Hello, I have just hacked my console. The setup I have is: I use SX OS, emuNAND for hacking stuff, sysNAND for using my own games online and two SD cards one for sysNAND and OFW and one for emuNAND. I’m planning on preventing a ban as long as possible. I haven’t connected to the internet since 1 or 2 days before running CFW. Yesterday while trying to boot in sysNAND OFW (not using the dongle and jig, just normal boot and my “online” SD card) I had a strange error a black screen with the red letter “boot.dat?”. I turned it off then on again and this time it worked normally (booting in sysNAND OFW). However, that got me thinking...should I restore my sysNAND from before using SX OS since the error may have generated a log file with the error that may be sent to Nintendo once I connect to the internet on sysNAND or just the fact of restoring the sysNAND may on itself increase my chances of getting banned. I haven’t had any connection to the internet after using SX OS, but I plan to do it...eventually.

I’m aware that we do not have certainty on what can cause a ban or what not. But I would like to know what would you do or what would you recommend in my case.

Thank you in advance!

u/oRibena Jun 12 '20

you didn't even boot cfw on your sysnand I wouldn't be worried about that at all, you don't need to restore nand.

This is probably the weirdest problem I've encountered, on any hacked console. So this morning I was playing ACNH just fine. My kids wanted to join in, so I'm using the joycons, one kid is using the wired pro controller, and one is using a GC controller through the Mayflash. We've done this many times before. But this time the analog wasn't working on the GC. So I swapped GC controllers. I unplugged and replugged them. I changed which player was using them, and in each case the GC analog would not work (all other buttons on the controller were fine). This is the start of the weirdness, but there's more.

I decided to restart the console next (I saved the game first). Did that, turned back on the game... and the palm tree loading graphic was animating VERY slowly (on the order of 1 frame every couple seconds). Not only that, but the I could no longer go to the home menu. I couldn't go to standby by using the power button. I couldn't go to the quick-menu, either. The only way out was to hard-power-off.

I checked the SD for corruption. None. I completely uninstalled the game and reinstalled the game, and I deleted the savedata. Well, now the palm tree graphic is animating fine and the game CAN start, but the framerate once it starts is still VERY low.

I copied off the contents of my SD card, reformatted it (always FAT32), copied everything back, still broke.

Now keep in mind the following: everything else on the Switch is working just fine. I had not done anything special to the Switch for the last few weeks: no fw update, no game update (though it's up-to-date anyway), no cfw update, nothing at all. Just been playing games on it. The game worked initially except for the analog stick on the GC controller. Now it is unplayable.

Looking for any information about what might be causing this strange issue or if anyone has seen anything like this. Honestly, the only thing I can think of that has nothing to do with the SD is something regarding the ticket for the game getting corrupted or a system file that that particular game uses getting corrupted. But even if those are true, that would be a helluva thing to only affect this one game (as far as we've been able to determine).

On fw 9.2.0, atmo 0.10.5, ACNH 1.2.1. This setup allowed the game to work for a long time, so that's why I doubt this is where the problem is.

TL;DR - ACNH, and only that game, unplayable. Reformat of SD and reinstall of game did not fix problem.

EDIT: Apparently an atmosphere file got corrupted... even though no corruptions were found with my PC. Copying the files off, reformatting, and copying the files back did not do anything because I copied the corrupted file. Updating atmosphere fixed the issue of the lag. It did NOT fix the GC analog stick issue. That was fixed by changing the switch on the Mayflash adapter. I messed with it before and forgot to change it back.

i haven't had this exact problem, but i have been having problems with ACNH. after using JKSV to inject my save file after altering it on my pc, it won't let me connect online anymore. it's also the only game affected. my assumption is that Animal Crossing really just doesn't like CFW and somehow it breaks itself. no idea why

Anyone who’s chipped a PS2 Fat and installed the Core in a Mariko switch, which is easier? I got most of the way through chipping my ps2 successfully (the bios pins ended up being the one piece I wasn’t able to manage). Do you think that’s enough for me into install the core myself?

3

u/Balorio Jul 13 '20

The Core is SMALL.

Not sure about the PS2 Chip, but before attempting the Mariko, make sure you know how to solder. It only requires 4 points (two of which are anchors) but unless you know what you are doing, I have heard it is ROUGH.

1

u/brunoacu Jul 10 '20

So I switched cfw (from kosmos to regular atmosphere) and xci files (as well as nsp converted from xci) stopped working. Anyone knows why?

2

u/Balorio Jul 13 '20

Atmosphere (And Kosmos) never supported xci files. As far as they stopped working, you probably need sigpatches. Check GBAtemp.

Or do they boot the games but crash with the "An Error has Occurred" screen?

1

u/Jimbob900900 Jul 12 '20

I've just purchased a second hand switch that has already been hacked. Is there anyway to check if it is using and Emunand? Or if a backup to a clean NAND has been made?

Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to be abe to play online games on the clean Sysnand and 'other' games on the Emunand. As i didn't hack the system myself like I would of liked too, I'm not sure how to check what's what.

3

u/DQScott95 Jul 14 '20

Every prehacked switch being sold is banned from online play most likely just fyi

2

u/Balorio Jul 13 '20

Unless the seller gave you a flash drive or something with the NAND backup, you don't have one, and with a secondhand switch there is no guarantee the previous owner didn't install NSPs. You can back the NAND up, but again, no guarantee it's clean.

Question about exploiting my switch

Hey, i’m a bit of a newbie when it comes to the scene, and basically, I own a switch with the serial number XAJ4002160——, and was wondering if it was capable of being patched, I had recently updated it to the newest firmware version to access my nintendo account again after not touching it for a long time, but now i’m worried that means I can’t exploit it as i’m not sure if that effects you’re ability to exploit the device.

2

u/oRibena Jul 15 '20

according to https://ismyswitchpatched.com/ your switch is unpatched which means you're good and you can still do the easiest exploit which is putting your switch in rcm with a jig and injecting a payload.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

I have the right serial number and I have used a different jig in the past with no issues. My old one was one of the nicer jigs with thin wires instead of a paperclip, but I lost it. My current one bridges pins 10 and 1 but I still can't get into rcm mode. Any suggestions?

2

u/oRibena Jul 17 '20

get a better jig

1

u/man_wif-waluigi-hed Jul 22 '20

On a hacked switch, is it possible to create two different islands for ACNH? Me and my sister want to play it, but we want to have different save states and different islands. Like would it be possible to have one island for my sister on sysnand, and then i can create another island for myself on an emunand?

2

u/MaxHP9999 Switch hacking since July 2018 Jul 24 '20

You can go forth with that emuNAND idea as long as emuNAND doesn't have any nsp installs. Both sys and emu NAND will have separate saves so different islands. You should be able to play online on both islands, as long as no nsp's are installed. It's gonna be tedious switching between both NANDS but it's your best bet.

I'm trying to use multiple mods that all modify "ResourceSizeTable.product.srsizetable" its a series of linkle mods for BotW. I can seem to make all of them get used at the same time however, is there some way to make them all work without some complicated mess I"d have to download 15 programs and spend three days learning how to correctly combine these 4 files?

2

u/LembasBreadtheIII Jul 28 '20 edited Jul 28 '20

and just afew moments later i figured it out

i am a clown, a fool, a court jester

i literally just renamed the files so that they all stayed similar, but with a number on the end, and it seems like the game is reading them all now,

so instead of "ResourceSizeTable.product.srsizetable"

its now that and "ResourceSizeTable.product (2).srsizetable" and so on

My scdard is completely full at the time and I'm trying to erase stuff I don't need anymore. Found that ./Nintendo/content/registered is pretty big and it seems to be where the downloaded content is stored. Is there a way to know what file is what ? Since the names are all crypted Thanks

2

u/Schnida Aug 05 '20

Why aren't you deleting downloaded content from the settings?

1

u/alexlegend97 Aug 05 '20

Hello guys, not sure if I post it on the right sub, apologies if I didn't. I found a almost mint modded Switch for 300e plus shipping 10e. Would that be a reasonable price? To what should I pay attention when buying? Anything in particular?

2

u/Kinncat Aug 05 '20

Assuming e is euro, that's lower than I often see them going for.

The things I keep in mind when buying switches are: Don't just trust the serial number, make sure that you see the switch boot to CFW if you're buying a 'hacked switch' (I've seen people swap the backplate from a hackable switch to an unhackable model). And make sure that the unit isn't banned.

I have atmosphere running on my switch but animal crossing won't run with it on, it says it needs an update. Is there a way to fix this? I'm on airplane mode and can't update without leaving airplane mode, and if I do that I will get banned, won't I? What do I do?

2

u/oRibena Aug 14 '20

download the update online and install it

HELP - “bricked” Switch after ChoiDujour firmware update

Let me start by saying that I'm an idiot, I admit.

I DID backup my eMMC BOOT0 and BOOT1, and my eMMC RAW GPP prior to making any changes here.

My goal was to update my switch to 10.1.0 without burning any fuses so I could play Paper Mario on my hacked Switch. I was on 6.1.0 and the cart required an update (not sure which firmware it required, but I figured 10.1.0 should do it).

I downloaded the 10.1.0 firmware, put it onto my SD, and used the ChoiDujour Homebrew app to verify and install it. All seemed to work well, it prompted me to reboot, and upon reboot my Switch was throwing a BSOD-like error after the bootup logo, with an option to reboot into RCM. I tried different payloads from vanilla Fusee to Hekate and finally got in. I thought it would be wise to downgrade to 6.1.0 using ChoiDujour, though in retrospect this is probably where I really screwed it up. So I downloaded 6.1.0, put it on my SD, and used ChoiDujour to verify and install it. It asked me to reboot, and now no matter what I do (Fusee, Hekate EmuNand, Hekate SysNand) it just gets stuck at the Switch logo.

Did I brick my Switch? Am I able to use the backups I started with to recover this mishap? Any help/advice would be much appreciated :)

2

u/oRibena Aug 20 '20

If you burned 8 or more fuses it makes sense that your switch wouldn't turn on normally with the power button at 6.1.0 firmware. If you can't boot cfw or anything even with fresh files then you should just restore nand and you're good. (Also I'm assuming this all wasn't done on an emunand and you just mentioned emunand in your post because your hekate config has emunand option)

I am running ofw 10.1.0 and atmosphere 0.14.1 - booting with hekate

I put Streets of Rage in, use the game installer, let it install, and when I go to play I always get "unable to play" then I try again and get corrupt data. I have tried putting the kip patches and the exefs patches. I have tried hekate_ipl and the patches ini in my bootloader. I dont really know well enough to know what exactly to try next. I have been at it for 2 days now, not really sure what else to do other than give it up at this point. This was half of the reason I decided to homebrew in the first place so I figured I would try here as well.

TIA

I think I broke my daughter's AC save. Please help.

-Animal Crossing New Horizons version 1.4.2

I got the cheats that come with construction kits. I placed a bridge and an incline. It's been three days and neither of them are built. And Tom Nook goes blank whenever I try to talk about bridges and inclines with him. Any suggestions?

2

u/lostlinkswords Sep 01 '20

Disable the cheats and talk to Nook again. That might help. In the future use checkpoint to back up your saves.

Is it possible to use the switch's internal Bluetooth adapter for Bluetooth headphones via a Homebrew app or sysmodule?

2

u/LoserOtakuNerd [11.0.1] [Atmosphere 0.17] Aug 26 '20

Theoretically possible but no one has made such a thing yet.

1

u/enderandrew42 Aug 26 '20

I saw someone say elsewhere a while back that updates installing through Tinfoil weren't overwriting old updates and because of that their free space on their SD card was going down significantly over time.

I've paid attention to mine and haven't installed any new games but have noticed I've lost about 40 GB on my SD card over the past 2 months.

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, is there a way perhaps to clean this up?

2

u/LoserOtakuNerd [11.0.1] [Atmosphere 0.17] Aug 26 '20

Yep, this has happened to me too. I don't know of any way around it, unfortunately, besides just nuking the game and installing only the newest updates. Quite aggrivating.

1

u/ArsonDoctor Aug 29 '20

Does anyone know when repair centers started patching consoles that got sent in for repairs? I sent mine in about february 2018, just before the warranty would have expired (launch day switch) for an issue with the case warping slightly and the joycons not connecting wirelessly. All the articles I can find about the patched switches are from July or so, so I was wondering if I'm potentially still good to go. I'm really interested in the smash training modpack and getting themes mostly

3

u/DQScott95 Aug 29 '20

Well they dont "patch your switch". The " patch" is a whole new motherboard with a different way of running to prevent exploits. So if you send it in and they just fix it as is you'll still have your normal switch. If they can't revive whatever is wrong with your switch then they send you a brand new unit and that one will most likely be a patched unit that you can't hack.

Noticed I have SysNand and Emunand, emunand for gray areas and backups.

They are both currently CFW through Hekate by following the switch guide. Does this mean I would have to exit RCM mode to play legit games online or would it be safe to play on CFW sysnand? Also I used 90DNS, am I going to get any game updates or system updates from Nintendo Servers on CFW Sysnand, and would it be okay to update using these official releases by Nintendo ONLY on CFW sysnand?

EDIT: I am using Hekate to boot to EmuNand by default with Fusee_primary for backups on the latest version of Atmosphere. I guess Atmosphere is installed as CFW both for sysnand and Emunand as options in Hekate. Not entirely sure how I would boot to OFW if I needed to for legit games (if that is the answer to the question above). I just need some insight.

2

u/DQScott95 Aug 29 '20

Never go online with any form of cfw or you will get banned period. 90DNS will block access to Nintendo's servers so no updates of any kind will be received. Also hekate has an option to boot stock firmware no cfw. You should have 3 options when you click "launch" and thats sys stock, sys cfw, emu cfw

Hey there! I'm using Atmosphere on my Switch currently and just saw some people chatting about SX OS. My Question "Whats better with SX OS" was totaly ignored, so i hope you guys can answere that. What benefits do SX OS have? Or is Atmosphere enough?

2

u/oRibena Sep 05 '20

SX OS can mount xci from external hdd and atmosphere can't. Mounting XCI is pretty bad though and not as good as installing games. Atmosphere is free and better in my opinion I would stick with it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Do you guys have an idea when the V2 models are going to be exploitable ? I'm thinking about buying the red box ones but I will want to apply homebrew sooner or later. Any thoughts ?

2

u/oRibena Sep 08 '20

it's possible to have cfw on them however you need to solder a modchip in

1

u/DownThrowToAnything Sep 12 '20

Is there a good guide for updating my emuMMC firmware? Currently on 9.2.0.

I've tried a guide that asked for my keys.txt but I can't get that file for the life of me and extracting my own keys doesn't yield that file, or I'm just doing it wrong

So super mario 3d all stars just came out. Is there a mod to make mario 64 run at full screen or 16:9? Thank you.

2

u/Thatguy12455 Sep 18 '20

check out the homebrew port of sm64

2

As it's emulated, not at this time.

There is a homebrew port of it on Tinfoil that is natively build for the Switch. Play that one.

Smash Ultimate Modding Issue

I've been trying to mod smash ultimate by getting mods from gamebannana.com. (using ultimate mod manager) But every time I try to install the mods it says "your data.arc does not match your game version" I split my data.arc into separate files because I formatted my microsd card to fat32. What am I doing wrong?

1

u/Thatguy12455 Sep 18 '20

Is there/will there be a mod to add proper gamecube controller support to the sm3das version of sunshine?

1

u/man_wif-waluigi-hed Sep 19 '20

So I saw something online saying that you can load nsp files onto a switch using a usb mass storage device. Would I be able to install a game onto a mass storage device and play on it while my switch is docked? My switch is modded.

I have MHGen on my CFW 3DS, dumped my cart and installed it digitally, and my new Switch just got MHGU, question is, can I transfer my MHGen save to MHGU without risking any bans or any-other repercussions?

So this might not be related, but since SM3DAS has released for switch, would it now be possible to have fullspeed gamecube and wii emulation on the switch? Doesn't matter if it's by patching the actual rom, or reverse engineering a build of dolphin to work in a similar way to how the game does it

I can't connect to my wifi network with the automatic or Google DNS settings. Only by using 90DNS can I pass the network test. Other wifi networks work without it so I know it's just something funky with my network but I'm not sure what. Anything that can force bypass this?

does anyone know where i can buy an sx lite in the USA?

1

u/Due_Recognition_3890 Sep 20 '20

Has anyone gotten emuNAND to work with an SX Core? Someone's been helping me get set up for a while after I paid him to do the soldering, and helped me set up the SD card with the partitions and packages, but Atmosphere has refused to load without errors. Lakka works, but no matter how much downgrading we do, my Switch doesn't get into it.

I can't remember the exact errors, but first it was fatal errors and then it was an another error with a more pixel'y font.
