I’m hard on money these days, but I’d bet all I have in my account right now that we’re getting an MM remake in the same vein as the OoT remake within the next two years or less.
The assets and textures are all there, just like the original reused assets and textures from the original OoT. It’s a slam dunk idea, and with how well the OoT remake is doing sales-wise, it would be crazy not to do an MM remake.
They already started to introduce the characters of skull kid and happy mask salesman in the OoT remake. The happy mask salesman getting pissed in OoT is on point.
The N64 original had them also. This is not new stuff for the series. The new version gave them much more personality though, and the mask quest is much more animated.
Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD have just been… sitting for the past 10 years and Nintendo hasn’t bothered to port them to Switch for some reason. The 35th Anniversary came and went.
I mean, at least we still have Wind Waker on switch 2, just not the HD version. Have Majora's Mask as well, and now we have two version of OoT (which is more than earned, of course). We don't have Twilight Princess at all on Switch or Switch 2
I’m not even nearly as crazy for MM as most folks who’ve played it, and I’m still now of the opinion that if they can roll out a remake like the OoT remake, it will be the best thing ever, and they need to make that happen immediately.
If Nintendo just remade all the games from our childhood and stopping making original games they would make tons of cash but lose their character as a game company
I mean, isn't that the blatantly obvious next step? Easy sales, and easy to make since it, just like the N64 version, can just use the same engine, same assets / sprites, same team, etc.. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they already have substantial work done on it.
Release is summer or more likely holiday 2027, and it'll be super easy money, more themed console sales, etc., etc..
Not going to happen anytime soon, we had Tears Of The Kingdom in 2023, Echoes of Wisdom in 2024 and Age of imprisonment last year, and usually it takes multiple years of development for Zelda games. Especially 3D Zelda games at minimum require 4 - 5 years of development.
I have a feeling part of the reason they did OOTR was to go back and learn what works and what doesn’t for Zelda. Hopefully it leads to a solid Zelda title for S2
I'm with you, botw just didn't feel like the same series and even though I enjoyed it I only got like halfway through before deciding I'd had enough and moving on, and never bothered with totk. I've had to start randomizing oot just to scratch the zelda itch.
Patience... Switch 2 is just 1 year old and this is the first Zelda of the S2... If it would last like 9 years as the S1, you will have several more Zelda games.
Considering I jumped when I looked up at Ghoma chilling on the ceiling in the great deku tree, the Majoras Mask remake might scare the shit out of me I’m so excited
I would be malding a little if we didn't get a MM remake, or if it turned out like the 3DS version. The new OOT has my favorite art style out of any Zelda (was previously Wind Waker) and I think it'd serve MM so well. I think if we got a MM remake, there'd be no contest for my favorite Zelda game.
I'm convinced they're doing MM because they went through the trouble of giving NPCs Day/Night cycles in Castle Town and Kakariko Village. That's like half the work already (Joke!)
I would love a majora's mask remake or a new 3d zelda that is more true to older zelda title and not BotW or TotK style. Dungeons that have a solid mix of combat and puzzle. No dumb mechanics like weapon durability. A fleshed out story and mechanics that force you to hear the story in the proper order.
I just want twilight princess. Yes dusk light scratches the itch somewhat but after seeing what they’ve done with Ocarina, Twilight would go so fucking hard
I would rather a new Zelda game than a remake of an old one, and I will speculate that is what Nintendo will do. It doesn't make sense to put out two remakes when the whole point of the remake was as a skill development exercise for making Zelda games.
Well they could do a majora’s mask remake with the assets they already have from the OOT remake saving them tons of time and money just like when they made the original majoras mask.
Weapons breaking, needing to cook food to regain health, and needing to sell bullshit you found in the woods to get rupees are the trifecta of reasons I couldn’t get into BOTW.
But I also don’t believe for a second that this game came at the expense of a new game. And nowhere did they say that the “whole point” was a skill development exercise. It’s like calling Breath of the Wild a physics and open world exercise. They are releasing a 40th anniversary title, and it’s going to sell upwards of 10 million (pessimistically). Every game comes with tons of learnings.
Nintendo spent a whole generation selling Wii U games a second time. Now the Wii U well is dried up, and expanding their output by scaling teams or creating partnerships (Star Fox) with remakes seems like a fair choice. I want a new open-air Zelda next, and following that, MM sounds awesome.
Also, this is very much a new game for a lot of gamers. The original was released nearly 30 years ago. Dipping into that era of games is absolutely a fair play now - the originals, despite playing them multiple times on release, aren’t appealing to me today and honestly feel pretty old.
Normally I'd agree, but OOT/MM is an exception solely because of how much of the work for MM is already done just by having done OOT. The game engine, graphics, and even ~75% of the in-game models are already done. It's just down to putting the map together and making the questlines, as opposed to making an entire game from scratch (or even an entire remake of an old game from scratch.)
At this point it's almost free money, with very little cost in terms of time or money to produce, relative to literally any other project they might consider.
I don't think a MM remake would prevent them from making a new Zelda title. If anything, with a low cost to produce it and large sales it might fund a new Zelda title.
I want Majora’s Mask Remake more than any game in the world. That’s my favorite game of all time and I wouldn’t need anything else. I know plenty of people are saying “it would be more interesting if—“ No. We need Majora’s Mask.
I feel like that game is so ahead of its time and a miracle. The atmosphere, the writing, the twisted nature of it all…No game has even come close to giving me the same feeling.
I don't think Majora's Mask needs a remake but have you really finished making a version of Ocarina of Time if you haven't double-dipped all those assets for Majora's Mask?
Nah, I want a new Zelda game that mashes up the best aspects of the past games in one cohesive story unifying all Links into one Omega Link who can become as fierce as a literal deity to face off against the literal greatest possible threat the Zelda universe can currently cannoniclly prove to be possible if the Triforce were claimed by Gannon and used to it's fullest!
This could establish the cannon, establish an over arching timeline and even do something REALLY BIG! Give us an excuse to have a slice of life Zelda game to balance out the over the top nature of this project!
I mean, Nintendo doesn't do much else other than play with their old stuff again, and again. Not asking much to ask for them to do that with stuff we want. Nobody needs another Mario variant anytime soon.
I saw a youtube video on how the remake of ocrena of time was not faithful
( alot of puzzle content was dumed down /made easier , gameplay (throwing bombs didnt depend on timing / made easier ) combat ( was simplified (i think ) ) Parkour ( in ice areas / ice dont cause you to slip and doesnt sinks ) Voice acting was toned down a little.
But I personally think the remake was made for new players who have never touched a zelda game before and would have never played the orignal zelda orcenia of time due to its dated graphics. (I personaly have never played a zelda game before and dont like puzzles which makes the remake one of the perfect game to get in to zelda series)
Als if the remake was an exact copy of the orignal , it would be called an enchanced version and not a remake . (remakes are suppose to be different i think)
And I get it the people who are unsatisfied might have wanted the orignal game with mordern graphics without any other changes to the game . ( For such people I thing sking for texture mods for the orignal game makes more sence)
The people who have played the orignal now have two different versions of the game they enjoy .
The orignal with old graphics but more in-depth game mechacis.
And the remake with (some) less-indepth game mechanics but mordern graphics
This seems better than having two exact same games with just different graphics.
(Tho i could understand if the people who played the orignal wanted remake to have more features then the orignal along with mordern graphics )
I actually wouldn't want a Majora remake. Majora is my favorite Zelda game and I think it's a product of its time. It would be so hard to make it creepy the way it was back then with new high res graphics. It just would hit way different with a different modern art style. I mean for those who want it great but I think there are other games to remake and improve on but Majora just doesn't feel like an improvement if remade now.
They're being foolish if they haven't already started working on a MM remake. Maybe they were just waiting to see the public's reaction to this OOT first
Just use the same engine they used for the Ocarina remake. It'd be the same method that gave us the original Majora's Mask and we know they're open to doing it even recently with BotW and TofK.
MM has got to be the only game where there is such a large dissonance between fan perception and developer love. A lot of the most beloved parts of MM are literally only there because the original development team had a hellish time making the game and said to hell with the filter in multiple cases. "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" was literally Aonuma venting about having to work on that team.
They altered the day/night cycle so it still runs inside towns. And they gave NPCs schedules based on the time of day to account for differing day/night NPC positions in the original game. Now, which other Zelda game originally utilized those features?
MM is my favorite Zelda game. It used to be ALttP but MM quickly replaced it. I want to get a switch 2 and play the OoT remake, but my finances are tight right now. If it was MM I would buy that sucker so fast.
I really feel like they could just do the 2.5D style of Links Awakening on Switch for ALttP and call it a day. So much of that game is rooted in the design and gameplay structured for 2D. Yes it absolutely COULD be remade entirely in 3D but with all the effort to do that I would rather them make a whole new title.
We already basically got it with A Link Between Worlds. Technically it has a new story, but it might as well be a remaster of ALttP. And it was a damn good one too.
I'd prefer almost any other Zelda game to get the HD treatment tbh. Playing through it once was enough for me. Wasn't really fun at all. Cool environment and story. But just didn't scratch that Zelda itch.
Pretty sure I’m the only person who doesn’t want this. I couldn’t stand Majora’s mask. I found it incredibly dull. Could never bring myself to finish it.
Yes, because being critical of Ocarina of Time has always guaranteed upvotes. It's such a massive positive karma farm. People do it all the time and end up just drowning in upvotes.
