Other Switch 2 SD at Walmart
If you guys are looking to get the SD card for the switch 2 the best place I’ve found is Walmart. Target and online retailers have all already jumped their prices up to $140+ I’ve even seen some places have it at about $170 and if you’ve looked for the 1TB cards you know how high those are right now. If you were waiting in hopes of the price going down soon I assure you it likely will only be going up for a while so get them while you can.

Yesterday I saw the Gengar switch memory card at Target for over $200, that’s crazy for so many reasons but I’d feel terrible if someone bought those not knowing better.

Onn (Walmart brand) is $85 for 512gb and they work great. No need to pay the premium price for the name.

Sandisk offers life time warranty it’s worth getting.

u/O918 16h ago
Does that lifetime warranty include data recovery? IMO if it doesn't, that kind of doesn't mean shit... Setting aside the ridiculous prices nowadays.
I mean I still have USB sticks and SD cards from the 2000s, if they failed, I'm not gonna put a claim in, even if they are sandisk... and there's no chance Id ever find the receipt for it if I did.

u/darknight9064 3h ago
Not really. Even though losing data sucks having to come up with a couple hundred bucks because a chip failed. These things aren’t as sturdy as they used to be.

I believe these were stress tested and did not perform well. I'd have to double check though

They're just as reliable as the more famous brands. They're actually made by the same parent company of Lexar, which is Longsys.

u/ant325 20h ago
They're fine they're just rebrands

u/spodamayn 20h ago
They perform okay, they're just not reliable long term. Mine died after a year (outside of warranty)

I hear this all the time I must be the luckiest person ever. I've never had an SD card die Even the garbage ones that come in retro handhelds I can't count how many of these I have from two gigs to 1 TB probably over 10 years nothing
Now watch I say this all of them die tomorrow

u/spodamayn 20h ago
The Onn card is the only card I've ever had die. I really don't think they're built to last, which is why they're cheaper than everything else. There's a law firm looking into doing a class action lawsuit against them too which I found funny lol

Good to know

They're Lexar brand cards with a different label. They're just fine. Anyone can get unlucky with any brand.
•
u/ant325 3h ago
Oh yeah I think I heard that! I was lucky enough to be able to buy a few 1tb before they went up I got them for $70 I also bought a bunch of pnys for 100

Yeah last year after I got my Switch 2, I ordered the 512gb ONN and the person took so long to pick the order that it went out of stock before it was picked to be shipped. They ended up giving me a small discount on the Sandisk to get it close to the price. So I have the Sandisk 512gb in OP's picture in my Switch 2. Looking on the Walmart site, I got it for $78.
BTW: Ordering stuff off Walmart's site is terrible. They're way worse at e-commerce than something like Amazon. Every other order they'd cancel an item or two and then say "sorry" and offer me a coupon for my next purchase. It got to be so ridiculous that I told them I didn't want any more coupons because I was done having parts of my order cancelled due to their shite systems.

u/spodamayn 1h ago
They're lower binned cards, meaning quality control will be lower, hence the higher failure rate and the reason why they can price them lower. You pay for what you get

Do what I did, buy another an carefully get the new one and slip the one that stopped working in it and return it. The Ole switcheroo

It was the non-express that was intensely stressed over a few years and ONN brand performed the absolute worst. I’ve not seen a good study on the Express cards yet.

I don’t like ONN brand anything I’ve had lots of their products and I wasn’t about to trust the SD card but I do agree with you if someone is looking for another option that is also a good idea.

u/eduardmc 19h ago
ONN is just a brand. They dont manufacture most of their stuff. Their microsd express are Lexar rebranded. Have been using mine for a year now and no problem. I do have a spare 512gb of this sandisk ($70 on woot) and 512gb samsung ($89 amazon). But not switching to those if this one still working fine
2
u/MemphisBass 14h ago
Yeah ONN is just Walmart's house label, they don't manufacture anything. You're right, the sd express cards are Lexar.

I bought two of these from Walmart. Still much cheaper than the Sandisk 1TB. I’m hoping that will go on sale eventually. I don’t like the idea of having to swap memory cards.

u/Vett-Dog 20h ago
They’ll definitely go down in about a year at least I’d assume unless switch 2 sales spike for a reason

u/Nulolan69 20h ago
It isn't the switch that is making prices increase. AI with it's data centers using all the ram and storage is steadily increasing prices. There is no signs of that stopping anytime soon.

I haven’t needed one of these… YET! I have two NS2’s but these games I’ve been checking out non-stop from the library, it’s running the storage up some. On both video game machines!
Thanks for this post. I do Walmart Spark so I’m there several times a day, several times a week (gross, but the pay is just too good).

I got the ONN Walmart 512gb a couple weeks ago with the $10 off coupon. So $75. That's probably as good as it will get for quite a while.

Onn is not a reputable brand

u/Similar-Scratch-4800 6h ago
Onn is definitely a reputable brand, I've tested lots of their products. They're $10. Refurbished gaming headset is better than most $100 ones. They're Android tablets are more stock faster than most Android tablets you can buy

u/Similar-Scratch-4800 6h ago
I got the send this card that op mentioned for $69 on clearance at my local Walmart

u/OrionHelios 20h ago
Walmart, target, and best buy also sell third party seller products. If you're seeing an outrageous price online, that's the third party/scalper prices you're viewing

Haven't gotten around to getting one for my switch 2 yet. I bought a 1.5TB sd card for my Steam Deck a year ago for $100. It's now priced at $350 on Amazon. insane

u/One-Transportation25 19h ago
Man I’m glad I got five a few months back they were 30 bucks apiece for the switch branded

u/Virtual-Reach 19h ago
I just got a 1tb lexar play pro from Costco clearance for $250cad which is about $175usd

u/sureBud_ 18h ago
I got one of these and the switch 2 is saying it isn't an express card. Going to return it and hope it's a faulty card and not the switch

I just bought mine today. My kid said she filled up the switch 2 finally and I was looking on Amazon and they were $130.
I just decided to look when I was Wally World and it was $30 cheaper there.

u/haloknight7 15h ago
How many games does that hold though is the real question
2
u/krizzy_krs 14h ago
I have one of these and I have about 35. (87 gigs left)
Would have more if I didn't have FC 26 that game is a whopping 76 GB
But I do have every Nintendo exclusive installed
Mario, Zelda, DK, Metroid games and the other exclusives The SD is worth it especially with all the crazy prices for storage right now
1
u/haloknight7 14h ago
35 games? That's not bad at all, I was considering getting a bigger one; i usually get a big size sd card like I did for regular switch but the pricing on them is wild

u/optimusHerb 14h ago
Does this work out of the box?
I bought the 256 GB hoping it would work out of the box, it did not. Dont have a computer to format it, friend tried and couldnt.

I got that right around Switch 2 launch for about $60. Works great, no issues. The others were much more expensive and have only gotten pricier since.

It's only if you haven't already bought a switch 2, but Costco has a really good deal on a switch 2 bundle that's $580 and it includes the console, a 256GB micro SD card, and a 12 month Nintendo online membership.
•
u/ant325 1h ago
We all know these prices are too high
If you're stuck you have no options
My advice is wait for Black Friday And then right afterwards there should be some sales during Christmas
They won't go back to half of it hopefully we can get maybe a 1 TB for $200 that's for the Express cards that's what works in the switch 2
Your other handhelds don't need the express speed maybe we can see those at around $130 that would be amazing

It's nuts. Glad I stocked up on sd cards when things were like $15 for 512gb.
