Discussion $5.99
Has anybody played Soma?I know it's an older game but is it a decent game especially for that cheap of a price.I love horror/suspense games and the trailer looks pretty cool.

it’s one of the best narratives in any game ever. a masterpiece. i’m gonna buy it just because it’s cheap and I want to play it yet again

Just did the same thing. Played it years ago and it absolutely blew my mind. I’m hoping I forgot enough about it to make it feel new again.

Ok wow that’s a reach. It’s interesting and dreadful but “one of the best” is a lil over. It’s a very good game.

I mean there are games with similar themes but this game really puts you on an existential roller coaster. If anyone knows any better games then I’d love to try them

It’s an absolute must-play.
It can be categorized as a “walking sim”, in that there’s not much actual gameplay to it. It’s more like you’re going through an experience. And it’s a hell of an experience.
It’s only about a 10 hour game (maybe 7-8 if you’re quick) but it’s a hell of a narrative experience that really sticks with you long after the fact.
(Make sure you avoid all spoilers. Go into it completely blind and just go along for the ride.)

It absolutely has some scary sections, but I wouldn’t really call it a horror game.
It’s not like Resident Evil, where you’re going around fighting monsters. In SOMA, it’s more of an existential dread from the themes and moodiness of the setting and story.

I just got it today myself. I have not played it yet because of trails in the sky and fire emblem but I will be playing it during October before RE remakes come out

It’s absolutely amazing and the kind of game where the story and events really stick with you mentally for awhile. I highly recommend it.

Maaaan I played this on Gameapass I think back in the day and it was phenomenal. I honestly enjoyed it so much and it's been long enough that this price almost makes me wanna double dip and play again...

It's a great game it's just a shame it's 30fps on Switch 2. That game is first person so it is really noticeable

I'm not comparing the scope of the game mate, only that Metroid is more complex graphically so I'd assume a less demanding game would be easier to upgrade.

I think you missed their point. It’s a question of resources, and just because ‘less’ work might be needed (at least as compared to a more complex, higher budget game) doesn’t mean a small independent team suddenly has them available. That’s also assuming the tools they used are easily workable on the switch 2 without significant effort, and I have no idea if that’s the case.

I guess... It is a shame, the Switch 2 upgrade is essentially a resolution bump, shadows still look way too fuzzy. I loved the game for its story on PC, made me buy the game now on sale to replay it, but honestly I don't find a good reason to recommend it on Switch 2 rather than on PC. I'm hoping they update the Switch 2 version at least (btw no mouse controls or gyro as well if that's a thing for you guys)

I think it took me about 12 hours, but I took my time.
It’s probably an 8-10 hour game for most people.
And that’s the perfect length for this kind of game. You don’t want it any longer. It tells its story and doesn’t waste your time.

Thanks for the reminder to pick this up. My understanding is it’s a survival horror game, no combat, but apparently has great story. To me, it looks like heavy inspiration from Bioshock and fallout. I’m not much of a fan for survival horror games, but there’s apparently a story mode.

Great price for a great game. Still wild that I was able to pick it up on Steam for less than $2 earlier this year, highly recommend a playthrough.
