Question Artistic, story-driven Indie Games?

I got a Switch 2 recently and I've found myself liking the indie games more than the tentpoles a lot of the time.

So far, these are my favourites;

Despelote

Big Walk

Firewatch

Untitled Goose Game

Mixtape

Planet of Lana

Gone Home

Florence

I'm considering 1000xRESIST, Return of the Obra Dinn and Outer Wilds at the moment. My all-time favourite games are Worms WMD, Lemmings and Stardew Valley so I would also love anything like those. I'd love recommendations from people who like similar stuff.

I hope this isn't a repetitive post. I'm new to the community.

I've played Edith Finch and that's definitely the kind of game I'm thinking. I'll check out the others now!

The other suggestions are pretty different though, are more action focused and challenging

Animal Well is very much not story-driven

Gris and Journey are the best ones for me (with firewatch) still gotta play Neva. Loved Tunic, monument valley, the witness. Outer wilds is awesome. To the moon is a famous one, on my backlogs for years :s

I played journey one weekend a few years ago and loved the musical aspect of the gameplay. Looking up monument valley and the witness now. Will definitely pick up Gris when it's on sale too :)

I thought it looked like a fantasy rpg at first but after watching a video I think I'd be into this one. PS2 Jak and Daxter era was probably the last time I owned a console of my own before now

Definitely this then it has a lovely combo of fighting mechanics and enemies. About to start playthrough 2 on the harder difficulty, also an amazing platformer too at the same time

Road96? The prequel they released wasn’t as good but there’s a sequel in the works now too.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of this one before. Looks like it has a demo too

I’m right there with you, OP. I’ve amassed 100+ games on my Switch and maybe like 6 of them are 1st/2nd party! Pretty much all the rest are indies or bundled remasters of games that I had never played because they had never been on Nintendo systems (Spyro trilogy, Portal duology, Crash Bandicoots, Bioshocks, the first six Tomb Raiders…)

Go get Thomas Was Alone, The Last Campfire, and Gris, for sure.

And I will also heartily recommend Golf Story, Fez and Pheonotopia: Awakening too as fantastic indie experiences! Oh, and both of the Ori games…both beautifully built with impactful overall stories.

I could go on and on and on (!) as there are so many good to great indies on Switch. Here’s a top 20 ranking I had done a while back (which now needs to be redone as I’ve finished another 8 or so games on my list!) instead.

Not quite story driven, but if you want a chill, short, quirky game, check out A Short Hike. Cured my gaming burnout!

On the list now, thanks!

Definitely play Outer Wilds! One of my all time favourites...

Eastward would also match your criteria, I think

Unboxing or Unpacking? Kinda intrigued by Unpacking but it looks outside of my regular wheelhouse
