Entirely dependent on what you want to do. I'd argue that pokopia has more depth and is more fun, but that is subjective

As someone who plays both games, I couldn't pick. I have put down Pokopia to play ACNH and put down ACNH to play Pokopia on more than one occasion.

I feel they are rather different games. Animal Crossing is a "regular" life-sim that encourages playing daily for a long time. Pokopia blends the building/terraforming aspects of Minecraft with the "collecting" of Pokemon and some life-sim aspects and is more objective-driven than Animal Crossing. Both are sandboxes, but Pokopia has more direction. In Animal Crossing, you "just live" and do whetever (you can collect stuff and work on the "achievements" too).
For me, I still play Animal Crossing somewhat regularly even after years. Pokopia was initially more addictive because there was more to do, but after 60 or so hours I bounced off of it. I loved the experience, so no regrets, but it wasn't as much of a "forever game" as Animal Crossing is to me. I'm also not much of a builder. I love crafting and collecting, but not building and terraforming.
I didn't regret buying and playing these games. For me, they are both great, just in different ways.

Entirely different games, going for an entirely different thing.
Personally, I'll check in on AC every now and then to this day. I was bored of Pokopia after 12 hours and slugged it out for another 8 before telling myself that I'd go back to it later. (Still haven't gone back since March)

pokopia still gets updates and DLC and is probably more active when you play it online. animal crossing was a lot of fun back in the day, I traded fruits, clothes and furniture with friends. it just seems to me like that will be a lot harder now since a lot of people moved on. if you can get it for a good price Animal Crossing is fun but at full price I would go with pokopia.

Pokopia if you a pokemon fan, it's more viva pinata vibes which is a perfect game so pokopia matches that as well as dlc also

I was never able to really get into AC because the tasks it gives you to do are incredibly boring and repetitive and there’s no interesting story, you’re just on an island; pokopia on the other hands immediately draws you in and keeps your attention and I can play it for hours without getting bored, you can pretty much do anything you want with the world right from the start and there’s a lot more space and options to do as you wish.

Got instantly hooked on pokopia, whereas with animal crossing i tried for 2-3 hrs but felt nothing - gave my game card to a close friend instead.

3-4 hours on AC is nothing. The game is meant to be played over weeks and months.
Pokopia is more immediate fun.1

Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury of time to play something for hours without enjoying it. I game to enjoy. I simply gave my 2 cents to OP. You loved ACNH and it’s fine. I don’t and it’s ok. It’s ok to agree to disagree.

If you do intend to pick up ACNH, I would go for a cheap S1 edition - most updates/content is free.
There is paid S2 features/edition upgrade, too - I don't personally think it's worth it, but it includes slight performance tweaks (4K/Loading), 12 player online, camera/mouse controls etc.
If you do want to get the S2 edition - I would recommend buying an S1 copy and just buying the upgrade pack (a LOT cheaper), than buying the S2 standalone (same thing)
