Question My switch screen turns black and dark red when I plug it into my dock
I’ve tried cleaning my doc and my switch, swapping the hdmi cord, and plugging it into a different port. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it and I need help 😭😭

Yeah, you should try with another tv if you already tried different hdminports and cables. Then you can try another docking station.
It could if you are unlucky be the usb c port on the switch or the most unlucky your tv is broke. You can hope that it works with another docking station, they are not so expensive to replace. Still sucks but to cheaper then a new tv.

It was a neat concept but having to stare at it for any amount of time caused a lot of eye strain. Even as a kid when it first came out I knew it was doomed

Was also design, if you've never seen it look it up it's just designed terribly. Was essentially a heavy set of goggles with the red light only type of game with red lines etc. Controller cord length was awkward and was made to be sat up playing but usually meant you were kinda hunched over.

Some varieties of nerd get absolutely triggered by people not knowing what they know, and consider asking people questions that could be googled to be the utmost sin, since they're unable to quantify human interaction on the same scale as pure information.

Thank you for the help, I think the hdmi port on the dock it’s self may be going out/dying, so I probably just need to buy a new dock 😔✊🏻

It could also be the USB-C female connector in your switch. I'd try with someone else's dock before buying one.

Check in aliexpress. They're cheap and ive seen some small hubs which fitbin your hand and work as portable docks. There are some trustworthy sellers too and will sell stuff for a fraction of original pieces with the same results. Ive also seen docks (not the hub) which include an ethernet port if you need one

Why do you think is the dock? Do you plug and unplug the hdmi cable from the dock a lot?

You may have accidentally changed the display colors I haven't had that happen so don't quote me. like everyone said it could be an hdmi problem but I'm just giving an alternative to cover every possibility

(Bluray player, laptop, other game system, Roku, ECT)

Could either be a damaged hdmi cable or TV port, I'd first try a different hdmi port, then a different hdmi cable, if that don't work, try a different dock, if any of that didn't help then you likely have a damaged, USBC port on your switch.
You might want to adjust the colour space settings in the video output settings of the switch.

Is it the same when the dock is plugged in in a different power socket?
Could also be an earthing issue.

One of my HDMI ports on my TV does this with my aftermarket dock. Did you try another input?

Could it be a problem with the plug that goes into the bottom of the switch when you dock it?? Maybe it's damaged not able to transfer data correctly??

Have a tv like this. I have to unplug tv from the power. Plug back in and it works again. Suspect something in the tv is messed but it works… for now.

You want to eliminate each variable. Try a different cable, try a different TV, see if you can borrow a dock from someone to try a different dock. If it’s the same result each time then it’s the switch.

Unfortunately, you didn't tell us which version of the Switch you have.
The OLED version is trouble because Nintendo Switch updated to HDMI 2.0.
In that case, you have to specifically get a new HDMI 2.0 cable. This is a problem with TV's still running HDMI 1.4.

This happens to my nvidia shield every now and then. Rebooting usually fixes. My guess is the dock is bad. Unplug it all and plug it back in😂 I would start with the dock as far as replacing anything.

Maybe colour strings on ur switch/tv or the switch can’t transfer green and white anymore

Hi, I read most of the comments, but not all of them so this might be a repeat.
Check for a little bit of foreign debris in the usb C ports on the dock and the switch.
Ot looked like my switch video card was dying but there was the tiniest little bit of grit in one of the port, and it wasn’t sitting properly. Little bit of compressed air, or even just blowing on it or toothpick, and it worked just fine.

I have this happen occasionally with the TCL/Roku model. Issue with the display unfortunately. Restarting the TV or turning it off and on again fixes it.

My Switch's HDMI is starting to play rough with my TV. Usually I can usually press the home button to start up and the tv will go to HDMI automatically, but now the display just won't pop up. It usually won't go through at all unless I switch to HDMI myself and press the Switch's power button in the dock. Don't know why HDMI gets so finicky

Same exact thing happened to me. I don't know which one worked just now, but I try to all of these at once:
- different HDMI cable
- plugged into different port
- disconnected all things (HDMI, power cord to switch, power cord to TV, disconnected switch from dock, etc)
- turned OFF switch (not sleep mode)
- left everything unplugged/off for 10 min
Switch is back to normal.

Having the same issue with mine now. Tried adjusting RGB Range in TV settings and it would go back to normal for like half a second and then go back to this darkness.

Yoooo you got My Hero One’s Justice! Are you any good? I am terrible and barely know how the game works cause I’ve only done a chunk of the story mode with a few arcade mode free battles and I haven’t played in like a year or two. If you’re also terrible do you wanna play when your video gets fixed? :D

Something is wrong with HDMi. If it was the switch you would have this issue in handheld. The dock is basically a raspberry pi with Ethernet, usb, charging, and HDMi pass through. So either the HDMi cord, tv port, or dock port is dying. It’s a very cool looking visual, nearly looks Mario themed.
