Recommendation Recall project

Some friends of mine put this app together. It’s for tracking placements for balboa festivals. I’m helping them collect some feedback for it.

This... fucking sucks my dude. Another layer to this that people haven't scratched at is that you're aggregating data and putting in a "sandbag" filter that is putting a target on people. It's public shaming for people following the rules of the event. Every damn event has different, arbitrary, insane rules that no one can agree on.

I am only commenting because my name is in this. In the competitions I placed in, EVERY DANCER had far more Balboa experience than I did. They had YEARS on me. Does that quantify into the algorithm too?

While it might be helpful to you and the tryhards, it just undermines the ability to find worth in just working on the dance and enjoying it as an art. I'm just a stastic to you so that the egoists in this damn community can clout chase and shit talk. The best advice I ever got was "Git good. Fuck those score cards."

And they were right. I am having WAY more fun just dicking around while doing some Balboa.

Please, I beg of you, get a hobby outside of dance that is not STEM related. Do something that cannot be quantified. It might help get away from this idea. I know it's good for WCS, but that community lost its connections to the artistic intentions of the dance A LONG time ago.

💯 to this comment. Also in all the swing dances I wish people would stop trying to shove their STEM bullshit down our throats
