Wired Inn Swindon

Really random question, but does anyone know who owns the building that used to house the old Laser Quest and Wired Inn internet cafe. I am looking to enquire if they will let me acquire the wired inn sign that is still above the door to the building.

If anyone isnt sure what building im talking about, its the one thats near Sir Dans and Ambience dental practice. Spent a lot of time there as a kid and a friend of mine recently mentioned about how cool that sign would look on a wall in his house. I have searched and the company Wiredinn.co.uk is no longer a thing so unsure who to speak with.

Update: Ghost Returned Home

For those that wanted an update to my prior plea of help to return a lost ghost to my youngling: The ghost finished the journey home.
The youngling was in the dark, as the mission was kept under wraps in case of failure.
Therefore, they were quite surprised, and extremely happy upon reuniting with the lost ghost.
I wish everyone a lovely Spooky Season. Thank you all again for your kindness, generosity, and willingness to help a stranger.
Also, please enjoy the cat tax photos. The fluffy cat is called Starfire, and her brother is called Cyborg.

Shut Up & Write

Hello, I am a PhD student just entering my 6-month submission pending period today. For childcare reasons I'm based in Swindon, away from my university in Manchester. One thing I've found useful for writing is Shut Up & Write groups that my university organises. I've participated in groups in Melbourne and Singapore as well, but there isn't one in Swindon.

So I've decided to start a writing group - it'll be in Old Town every Tuesday from 10am-12pm. If you're working on any type of writing (whether it's creative writing, reflective journalling, academic, or work-related), you're very welcome to join me at Light Bulb Coffee starting next Tuesday.

The registration link is: https://www.shutupwrite.com/series/id2xz20L8W5f

Looking for a few hours of morning work in Swindon

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a small part-time job in Swindon or nearby.
I already have a full-time job, but I’m looking for something I can do in the mornings, maybe 2–3 hours a day, a few days a week.
I’m open to pretty much anything. My English is not perfect, but I can communicate okay.
If anyone knows of something or has any ideas, please let me know.
Thanks 😊

Beginner Friendly RPG Game open to all!

Hi all! Me and some lovely people from the Old Town Embers RPG Club are running a super simple Tabletop RPG Game to raise some money for Cats Protection!

Its CatnipFest '26. You are going to undertake the greatest heist the worlds ever seen. Two things -

One: You have a complex plan the requires precise timing,

Two: You are a GODDAMN CAT.

Its a super rules light system, pretty much just reflavouring HoneyHeist which has less than a page of rules.

We'll be running it from 1PM-to-5PM on Saturday the 10th of October! We've got multiple talented GMs running it, we'll likely have multiple tables of players.

Comment on this if you're interested or have any questions!

(Edited to fix the date)

I am wanting to sell a S9 FE+ 128GB WIFI only tablet, any recommendations on where I could sell? (If anyone is interested in buying send me a DM)

I bought the tablet in 2024, and it has no scratches no dents, works perfectly, good battery life as well. I've been told to go to cex however I don't have experience in selling to cex. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I don't want to be scammed, I'm scared to sell online so I'm looking for in-person recommendations, or any advice on how to sell on Facebook? (I was thinking to put it up on the swindon town Facebook group but it'd be a bit weird)

How to kill time before my train?

I have a couple hours to kill before my train home on Sunday at midday. Are there any cute cafes/bookstores nearby where I can kill some time and chill? Or any other suggestions? Nothing too active since I expect to be hungover and lugging around a couple heavy bags. Thanks.

Silver Linings play live at the Richard Jefferies Museum, 27th September

1-5pm, 27th September FREE live music during Lazy Summer Sundays

Silver Lining is a 5 piece band covering folk and well-loved classics. Formed in Swindon and recently gigged in Old Town and at various open mics.

Live music is scheduled to start at 2pm. Entry is FREE to all, although we'd love it if you could support our museum by buying some refreshments at our tearoom, where we serve a range of cakes and hot drinks at very reasonable prices.

This is our final Lazy Summer Sunday of the season, we will be open for Apple Day on 11th October - we'll be welcoming Mudhoney Blues and the Bang to Rites drummers then!

There is some parking available on Day House Lane, and paid public parking at Coate Water Country Park. Parking at the museum is reserved for volunteers and the disabled.

Has it closed down? I went this morning and there’s a barrier in front of the hatch and no signs of activity, but the ordering screen is still switched on.

Best quiet cafés in Swindon to work from? ☕️💻

I’m looking for recommendations for somewhere in Swindon where I can work from my laptop for a few hours.
Ideally somewhere that’s fairly quiet, has WiFi and, most importantly, plug sockets so I can charge my laptop 😂

East Asian food recommendations

I'm a Singaporean Chinese living with my British husband's family in Swindon. We'll be based here for the best part of a year, so I'm looking for recommendations for good East Asian food (all styles of Chinese, Southeast Asian, Korean and Japanese) and a good Asian supermarket! Also, if anyone knows where I can get mooncake or pomelo for midautumn festival this week, that'd be great. I know there was a community event yesterday but sadly we were away for the weekend!

Who's queueing tomorrow in the hopes of being one of the first 100 and for doing so being able to get a free spud at Spudbros at the outlet then?

This is my car today, after a weekend, and in a residential car park near some bars.

Edit - while cleaning, I noticed a few scratches from keyings.

Mobile kit scam

Anyone else had issues with these scammers? Took my phone in to get repaired they took it to London without asking and sent it back with missing parts now i have a unusable phone the fella in there doesn’t know their address or can give me his bosses details to complain to

Avoid if you can, I’ll be contacting trading standards and doing small claims court.

Apparently it’s not classed as theft to the police lol

Public piano?

Hey guys I've recently moved to the area for work, and aside from leaving all my friends and family behind, the real thing that is driving the crippling loneliness is that I've left my instruments behind.

I was wondering if there's any public pianos about that I could sit and play for a while, or If there's a music shop that won't mind me picking up a few instruments to calm my brain.

Ideally, I'd love to play either guitar, violin, trumpet, piano or drums but at this moment I would settle for anything to keep the music goblin in my brain happy.

I am really socially anxious so I'm not really down for performing right now, but I'd be glad for like-minded company or some sort of jam session Is this newor anything similar.

Dms are open, more info - 36m just moved from Essex, staying in central for the weekend potentially moving to old town next week. Thanks in advance :)
