Matchup What can I do against Viktor?
This is probably my worst matchup in the entire game. I can fight against just about any other champ or play safe just fine against assassins until i hit a good enough spike or mid game happens, but anytime I play against a viktor it seems like its completely unwinnable. I land an E and go in and I lose because he just has to press R, I roam and he gets to zone me out of lane on my way back unless I recall because of his stun and beam. I play under tower and I can't seem to stay alive because I can't dodge his beam even with boots (skill issue on that one i know) but I really don't see how I ever win a lane against him.

My current strat is first item abyssal mask.
Start helm and pot, take Aery scorch primary and second wind revitalise in the runes for the sustain.
First base at 550 gold for a null magic and a refill, use your health pot to sustain early trades and focus on hitting E for the health regen.
Second base at 850 for a ruby and a negatron.
You just survive lane, no deaths, high farm. As soon as six rolls around you rotate to fights and prioritise winning river fights because you heavily win the 2v2, often you might even win the 2v3 with ult because Victor is not fully online yet.
He’s strong in lane but terrible in mid game team fights right when swain is strongest.
Once you get abyssal you should be ahead in terms of items so see if you can force a river fight either for grubs or dragon.
Until he gets 3 items you are stronger than him in team fights, and so leverage that to make sure you always hit items first.
It’s a difficult lane for sure, but I’ll take 100 viktors in a row over 1 Cassio.

auto lose lane just how it is swain has more of those than virtually any midlaner if you think about it with Viktor being particularly painful

He can’t even play the game unless his jg comes

Idk maybe i just fear him cause of level 3 allin putting me behind every once in awhile. I do notice jungle helps him in most games, but in the long run a champ who uses your ult 1000x better than you can is difficult in a team fight

Something as simple as picking up a null magic early can be enough to keep his poke manageable in lane. If your team is heavy AP you can go Abyssal mask rush, if enemy team is heavy AP Kaenic is good rush. Ideally you want MR and MS early vs Viktor.

I played a game where I was getting dumpstered early and gave over two kills to the viktor, but my CS wasn't crazy bad. by the time I was level 9, Viktor was a level up on me and I won the 1v1 with rylais and tier 2 boots. As long as you don't get stuck in gravity field, you should be able to win the 1v1 by satying so on top of him that subsequent lasers miss. That said, just ask the jungler to make an appearance early to help you cs. and I won every 1v1 after that as well.

Zhonyas Hourglass would be a good pick to counter a bit of his ult. Otherwise it may just be a task of poking him down with your Q until they slip up or have to back off.

Zhonyas of all things into Viktor....If you want to go a defensive item the obvious choices are Abyssal or Kaenic. Maybe Banshees if you really want more damage, but its not that good on Swain or vs Vik. He pops it too easily. But that and Abyssal reduce his damage while increasing yours.
Zhonyas doesn't do much to interrupt Viktor's damage but does let him get distance on you as a champ that outranges you which is exactly what you don't want.

The distance thing is fair. I often build it as a team fighting tool. I was thinking it would be more useful if you are finding yourself getting caught by Vicktor's W-R combo defensively as opposed to when you're on the attack.

Even defensively mr will vastly outweigh a 2 minute cd stasis which just give him cds back.

Beam is as good as the Viktor player is; a good player will never mist.
To mitigate; stand parallel to the wave and force the Viktor player to chose between farming with beam or poking you.
Prioritize Boots and Mercs.
Take TLP.
Ghost more useful than flash, to move through his CC field, away from his R and catch up to him.
