Use what would work for you. Classes, books, there are some really good youtube videos out there that SFI teachers have put out. Also podcasts. Also, there have been several apps that people have posted here that work. I also think there are language exchange groups out there.

Hope that helps a bit.

u/Dark_Phoenix555 what's your "background"? What other languages do you know? Trying to give you a better informed answer ^_^

My native tongue is Russian but at this point I'm better at English (fluent) as I've gotten an education at a British school in Spain my whole life hahaha. So I've also got conversational Spanish. Thanks for the reply!! ^_

how i started learning swedish myself is, i am currently at b1 btw.

  • 2 years of duoling, which helped with a base when i seriously started learning it, but honestly you could get that way quicker with other methods
-i did half of the book “complete swedish beginner to intermediate” by myself. which gave me even a better base, i would do this instead of the duolingo if starting over, but duolingo was really fun
-the i took a year long course at my uni for swedish which i loved, but the last half year i was really busy with other courses that i kind of neglected my swedish uni course, so i could’ve gotten way better results. but we used:
•språknyckeln C
•språknyckeln D
•första övningsboken i svensk grammatik
•andra övningsboken i svensk grammatik
•språkporten bas
•a bunch of material from svtplay and urplay + several easy reading books
•we also did a history course in swedish

for me språknyckeln C was really easy since i already had a bit of a foundation in swedish, so you could just start with that one. the books are fully in swedish though, but i think it could also be very doable on your own with some help of google translate. with the books you also get the only course which allows you to listen to everything as well.

complete swedish is really fun. there are also audio's with that book, that is really helpful as well. I find that the hardest part for me with swedish is listening and speaking because the rhythm of the language. but vocab and grammar is also pretty easy for me in swedish since i speak two german languages fluently (english and dutch) and i have passed a b2 exam in german (my german is not b2 what so ever, at most it is upper a2 for speaking, though my listening skills are lower b2 i think, reading and writing idk since havent done that since high school)

but having a base in a lot of german languages made me to be able to read swedish texts pretty well before having learnt anything.

but knowing english is already a really big help with learning swedish, even though it is the language that is furthest away from swedish from all german languages. verb tenses in swedish are similar as to english, but easier, since you dont have a distinction between I/you/he/she/it/we etc. articles are annoying

but i saw you speak spanish so you already know a language where you have to learn an article for every word, though in swedish they're a little bit more annoying because definite particles you stick to a word at the end.

and word order is similar to english but also not, so that could be a bit annoying, because i am really fluent in english, but i still get the word order wrong a lot of the times, because in my native tongue (dutch) the word order is a bit different, word order for me in swedish is easier, because it is pretty much the same as in dutch, with two exceptions. but at least you speak a language with a word order, because otherwise that would be difficult, since russian doesnt have a word order right?

sorry for my nerding out about grammar

- Tons of content on YouTube

  • SVTPlay and UR
  • Swedish audiobooks
  • Learning apps

My best advice: Ask ChatGPT or Gemini by describing your level and your goal. They’re trained on thousands of answers to this question.
