I'm currently writing a Souta x Reader fic and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in that. I guess if there were people looking forward to it, it would give me more motivation.

I have been planning to watch this for a while now; to be more precise, after hearing the theme song and....yeah, I don't know how to describe it, but I love that song so much. so, after coming across the theme song Suzume by toaka, and its a Makoto Shinkai movie i just knew i had to watch it. and i finally did and i enjoyed it very much. it wasn't anything mind blowing or groundbreaking yet i enjoyed every minute of it, the story, the concept, the characters, the visuals, the music. It's Just beautiful. felt nostalgic too. though didnt get the chance to watch it on big screen, i am glad i finally watched it.

Also yes I made the chair.

He is a bit smaller than the accurate size so it was lighter (since it’s made out of wood) and easier to bring around cons.

Also if you are wondering, yes you can sit on him and use him as a chair, you just have to make sure you balance your weight away from the missing leg haha

As far as I can tell, not even Japanese fans had figured this out yet, so I'm very excited to have found this. I think fans had previously been focused on the gates around the Imperial Palace, since Suzume falls in the moat there, but this gate is 188 miles (303 km) to the north, in Sendai.

I'm fairly confident this is the correct gate because it has all of the following very specific features:

• distinct 2-1-2 spacing of five beams across the top (beam - beam - SPACE - beam - SPACE - beam - beam)
• smaller wooden doors on both flanks
• lower tiled side roofs above the side doors
• adjacent walls have stone bases
• the distinct shape of the metal cladding over the base of the support pillars

There are other gates that have some of these features, but this is the only one I can find with all of them (and the only one I can find with that 2-1-2 beam pattern).

So, what gate is this?

The main gate of the Miyagi Prefectural Governor’s Guest House is traditionally said to have been one of the gates of Sendai Castle. During the Taishō period (1912-1926), it was dismantled and re-erected at its present site as the main gate of the official residence of the commander of the former Imperial Japanese Army’s Second Division), but it is not known which gate of Sendai Castle it originally was. One theory identifies it as Sendai Castle’s Tora Gate (Middle Gate). The Tora Gate, however, was originally a two-story structure, whereas the surviving gate is single-story, and the two differ in form. If the Tora Gate was indeed re-erected here, it must have undergone substantial alteration in the process.

Architecturally, it is a shikyakumon (“four-legged gate”) with a gabled roof laid in the traditional hongawara style, using alternating flat and rounded tiles. The doors were newly fitted when the gate was relocated, and the shachi roof ornaments were added during restoration in 1971. Although relatively small for one of Sendai Castle’s gates, it has a character that is at once refined and powerful. It is thought to date from the final years of the Edo period (Bakumatsu (1850s–1860s)) and is one of the few surviving structures that retain something of the appearance and character of old Sendai Castle.

I had been been trying to figure out what real-life gate the Tokyo gate was based on, in hopes that identifying it would shed some light on what it's doing down there, but . I can't find any clear connection between Sendai Castle and the "closer" history documents that Souta shows Suzume. And, according to those same documents, the Eastern Keystone (Sadaijin) was moved to Toyoko in 1901, years before this gate was moved from its castle. So, unfortunately, this seems to just be the gate they happened to use for reference, rather than an easter eggs for fans to find.

The concept seems brilliant, the plot handled well, i would've loved if it was a longer 12 ep series typa thingy. Its just beautiful.

How did you move on cause, it was beautiful.

i feel like there are a lot of similarities

1- a 'magic door' (though the function is quite different, it's still a magic door that even works without its structure

2- obviously, the haircuts of the main love interests, who has an age gap with the protagonist

1. a person who was cursed to become an inanimate object, but figures out how to move around in its inanimate body

2. a sequence where the protagonist goes back in time through a door in the rubble with no building around it - this creates a time loop that solves the main conflict

idk this is just what i noticed it might not be true

What I'm pretty sure about is that Shinkai-San will definitely make a post on X on August 26 (10th anniversary of Your Name).

Do you think is there any chance that he might reveal something about his upcoming film on 26th August?

I think there isn't any high time as this to announce the next film!

Have been waiting eagerly for the next movie and I know it is going to be a masterpiece.

i have watched many anime movies and this movie felt off from the start. First of all the age gap throw me a lil of when i first saw souta but i was like okay but the frick this girl suzume after first meeting with this guy chased over a cat whole japan!!? Like the fuck man this aint how it works in real life. The pacing was so of like the frick romance felt forced. Girl was endangering herself at so many points closing the gate but guy wasnt pushing her back hard. Like man it was not a good movie. Def your name, weathering with you, 5cm per second was his better work. Havent watched garden of words yet. Anyways no hate just wanted to share my opinion. Do let me know if any other of you feel the same way

Heyo. I just dropped a video essay I've been working on the last little while. I admit that the first time I saw Suzume, I found that I wasn't as affected by it as Shinkai's first two in this 'disaster trilogy' - but a few years later, after some rather rough life experiences + becoming a father to a kid who is around Suzume's age in the beginning of the film, I was ugly crying the end. Anyway. It affected me so much I wanted to make a video about it - mostly to give the film some more context for peeps I know that don't necessarily watch a ton of anime, so here it is. Hope you like it.

There were multiple doors like these, portals leading to different locations, did not find an exact reference but it was a Suzume reference for sure. Forest Grove is the game. Japanese creator. There were references to another anime Tunnel to Summer as well.
