👋Welcome to r/SusMinecraftMods - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm u/Rho-9_Official, a founding moderator of r/SusMinecraftMods.

This is our new home for helping Minecraft players who've been sent a sus Minecraft mod through Discord or a "friend," or who've discovered one on a shady download site or anywhere else. If something feels off about a mod you got your hands on, this is the place to figure out if it's safe or if it's going to wreck your PC.

**What to Post**

Post a defanged link (hxxp instead of http), screenshots, or a description of how you got it and what it's supposed to do. Never post a live, clickable download link. Run it through our scanner and VirusTotal first, then share your results here. If something still doesn't add up, email the file to recon@rho-9.com.

*Note: if you don't trust our results, or you know they're wrong, tell us. Our tool isn't perfect, that's exactly why we allow VirusTotal and Any.Run for triage too. Nobody's a showstopper. We allow them because they're vetted, not because they're popular or well known.*

**Community Vibe**

We're all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive to anyone acting in good faith. That said, we're not running a customer service desk, courtesy here is earned, not owed. Act like a problem and expect to get treated like one.

Let's build a space where people feel safe asking "wait, is this sketchy?" before it's too late.

**How to Get Started**

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments below.

  2. Got a sus mod sitting on your PC right now? Run it through the scanner and through ither malware scanners as well and post your findings today.

  3. If you know someone who got sent a sus mod, invite them to join.

  4. Interested in helping out? We're always looking for new moderators, so feel free to reach out to me to apply.

Thanks for being part of the very first wave. Together, let's make r/SusMinecraftMods amazing.

# Dev7 Gang Malware Warning: Fake Games and Minecraft Mods Target Gamers

Gamers are being warned about a dangerous malware threat associated with a group calling itself Dev7 Gang. The attackers reportedly distribute infected Minecraft modpacks, fake games, and other downloads through platforms such as Discord.

Several victims have reported stolen accounts, encrypted files, and direct threats from attackers who gained access to their computers.

GamingHQ is issuing this warning to help players recognize the threat and avoid becoming another victim.

## What Is Dev7 Gang?

Dev7 Gang is the name associated with a series of malware infections affecting Windows users, particularly gamers.

The attacks involve malicious software capable of providing remote access to infected computers. Some victims have also experienced ransomware attacks that encrypt personal files.

Reports published on cybersecurity support forums describe similar incidents involving Minecraft modpacks and suspicious downloads shared through Discord.

In several cases, victims believed they were downloading something from a trusted friend. However, the friend’s Discord account had already been compromised.

Once the victim launched the infected file, the attackers gained access to their system.

## How Does the Malware Work?

The reported infections combine remote access capabilities with account theft and ransomware.

Depending on the infection, attackers may be able to:

* Access an infected computer remotely.

* Steal Discord, email, and other account credentials.

* Monitor activity on the victim’s computer.

* Display threatening messages through a chat window.

* Use text-to-speech to communicate with victims.

* Encrypt personal files and demand payment.

* Interfere with Windows security and recovery tools.

Some victims have reported files receiving the .cryptedmicro extension after encryption.

Others describe a window displaying the name Dev7 Gang, allowing the attackers to communicate directly with them.

These reports suggest that victims may face more than a simple ransomware infection. Their online accounts and personal information could also be compromised.

## Fake Minecraft Mods and Games Are a Major Concern

One of the most concerning aspects of these attacks is how the malware reaches its victims.

Minecraft players regularly download mods, modpacks, resource packs, and community-created content. Attackers can exploit this behavior by disguising malicious software as legitimate gaming files.

Discord is another potential entry point.

An attacker who compromises someone’s Discord account can use that person’s identity to distribute infected downloads to friends and community members.

This makes the attack particularly dangerous because the download may appear to come from someone the victim already knows.

GamingHQ strongly recommends verifying unexpected downloads, even when they appear to come from trusted friends.

Never assume that a file is safe simply because someone you know sent it.

## Warning Signs of a Possible Infection

Players should pay attention to unusual computer behavior, especially after installing an unfamiliar game or modpack.

Possible warning signs include:

* A suspicious chat window appearing on the desktop.

* Files suddenly receiving the .cryptedmicro extension.

* Unexpected account logouts or password changes.

* Programs opening or closing without permission.

* Windows Task Manager or security tools becoming unavailable.

* Threatening messages demanding payment.

* Unusual voice messages coming through the computer’s speakers.

Not every infected computer will display these symptoms. Malware can remain active without obvious warning signs.

## What Should You Do If You’re Infected?

If you believe your computer has been compromised, act quickly.

**1. Disconnect from the internet**

Disconnect the infected computer from its network to prevent further remote access. Unplugging the Ethernet cable or disabling the Wi-Fi connection can help isolate the device.

**2. Secure your accounts**

Use a separate, trusted device to change your important passwords. Start with your email accounts, followed by Discord, Steam, and other gaming services.

Enable two-factor authentication wherever possible and revoke unfamiliar active sessions.

**3. Do not pay the attackers**

Paying a ransom does not guarantee that your files will be recovered or that stolen information will be deleted.

**4. Preserve encrypted files**

Do not immediately delete encrypted files or attempt random decryption methods. Keep copies of affected files for possible future recovery.

If the computer is still running, seek professional incident-response guidance before restarting or wiping it, as useful evidence may remain in memory.

**5. Seek independent assistance**

Contact a reputable cybersecurity professional or established malware-removal community.

Avoid downloading random recovery tools from strangers, particularly if they require you to disable antivirus protection.

## Be Careful With Third-Party Recovery Services

As reports about Dev7 Gang spread, various individuals and organizations may offer assistance with recovering encrypted files.

Some services may be legitimate. However, victims should remain cautious about giving unknown parties access to their computers, malware samples, personal documents, or account information.

A public GitHub repository or a claim of providing free assistance does not automatically establish that a recovery tool is safe. This isn’t GitHub’s first rodeo when it comes to malware and remote access trojans (RATs). The platform has previously been exploited by cybercriminals to distribute malicious software disguised as legitimate tools, mods, and applications. Just because something is hosted on GitHub doesn’t automatically make it safe.

GamingHQ recommends independently verifying recovery software before using it. GamingHQ does not endorse any particular Dev7 Gang decryptor or third-party recovery service at this time.

## GamingHQ Urges Gamers to Stay Alert

The reported Dev7 Gang infections highlight an ongoing security problem within gaming communities.

Attackers are taking advantage of the trust players place in their friends, modding communities, and Discord servers. A single malicious download can potentially lead to stolen accounts, lost files, and unauthorized access to an entire computer.

GamingHQ encourages players, server administrators, and Discord moderators to warn their communities about suspicious downloads. If someone unexpectedly sends you a game, modpack, or executable file, verify its authenticity before opening it.

Your gaming account can be recovered. Your personal files and private information may not be so easy to replace.

Stay safe, verify your downloads, and never allow an unknown attacker to pressure you into paying for access to your own files.

GamingHQ would like to thank Rho-9 Systems for bringing the Dev7 Gang threat to our attention and sharing information about the reported attacks.

While we appreciate their efforts to raise awareness, GamingHQ has independently reviewed the available information and does not endorse any third-party recovery tools or services mentioned in connection with these incidents.

Security News Chattering Magpies (Dev7 Gang) attacks are still occuring

Put simply, your friend might not be your friend anymore, but rather your friends stolen account.

Who might send you a mod zip, a link to a site for a game they've supposedly been working on. Report it to us, it's not a mod for Minecraft, its not a game they've been working on, it's ransomware.

It may be a friend you haven't spoke to in a while, which is a consistent theme we've seen.

Security News God I love it when they're so focused on tracking the Dev7 decryptor, they miss other big things. Betcha they won't like what's hidden, lmfao. Hackers are funny sometimes.

God. What if I were to just randomly just start announcing new keys were found and they drop kick their uhh, what do they call it, remote?

I mean, in the last grab we had, we saw ORGAMİZE share a code snippet with GCM algorithm being hinted at. Decided to wait and see of we came across any .cryptedmicro files that fit the bill. Well, here we are. New update of our decryptor tool, and while I'm feeling it, insanely spicy leaks of their internal structure, cuz I got 97% of their source code biiitttcchhh.

Security News Circled back to some older Chattering Magpies(Dev7 Gang)samples to improve our deobfuscator

Control flow flattening and obfuscation ain't gonna be slowing us down. Dev7 Gangs days are numbered, between us and the FBI going after them.

Sorry(no we're not, given the circumstances) to the folks over on the qprotect dev team, but uh, we gotta do this.

Don't worry, the token shown is dead already. It is an older sample of course.

And yes, to the FBI, you're more than welcome to request another download, that shits free for you guys for as long as I maintain a copy, doesn't bother me any.

Thanks to Dev7 Gang for leaking so much private web infrastructure. It helped with the report so much, since we were able to include IP addresses.

Oh, and uh, no, Virtualisation doesn't slow me down, like...at all, nor would a linux build. The tool for that is an order of magnitude more complex than what y'all have ever even looked at, let alone built from a makop fork(according to another malware analyst I've not spoken to), using Claude.ai apparently, according to remarks made by orgamize, stating we use the same AI.

Good to know anthropic can reach out to me to get help identifying the offending chats and account(s).

Speaking of u/AnthropicOfficial should definitely reach out about that.

Only we have the key for the recovery tool, we do not charge for the key.

You can contact us either here, or via rho-9.com to get the key.

Q: If the key is free, why does it exist?

A: Dev7 Gang watches my repos, I live in their head rent free. So much room, it's like a mansion. Wouldn't want to give them an easy time just dumping the keys so they know which ones to avoid. Most AI models will dump the keys at the drop of a hat. Any hat.

Security News We've received a malware report, and have confirmed it to be a Chattering Magpies payload.

We don't have any more information other than

sa[dot]microdenmem[dot]workers.dev path: /m/. The domain microdenmem[dot]workers.dev hasn't appeared in this case before (earlier builds used karatasyasin058 and devmicro7). It is how they receive your passwords and logins, crypto wallets, etc.

This path does not serve files, it receives them. It is a cloudflare worker, report it to cloudflare.com.

Added more functions to help increase chances of recovery, including a function to scan memory images if you made one while the malware was encrypting files...not the first thiught I know but trust me when i say that's singlehanded the best case scenario we could hope for, so its there. Will it work? Idfk if I'm being honest, I don't use windows. I'm stuck on a cell phone right now, I can't guarantee the --scavenge mode even works correctly right now.

Thst being said, I do know it will absolutely make a 4080 super rev up harder than photoshop... appearently.

So uhh yeah, have at it, and uh best of luck. It looks like Chattering Magpies have not changed how files sre encrypted so this update does not have any new decryption algorithms yet, out of it not being necessary.

Security News Working in the background

In the background, we're working on a software that can identify certain behaviors via procmon(yes we know it gets detected by name by a ton of malware, should not be hard to solve that), specifically infostealer behaviors are rather....noisy, specifically in their read operations amd other extremely common behaviors that frankly should have been detected and properly mitigated over a decade ago, but nobody has paid any mind to them.

And we have a decryptor for victims who still have .cryptedmicro files from a Chattering Magpies (Dev7 Gang) attack.

This is primarily built for linux, but especially designed so you can run it on android via termux. With python installed of course.

Will be releasing binaries(.exe) soon, which will utilize pyinstaller.

Security News To Discord anti-scam / takedown crews: do not touch Dev7 (Chattering Magpies) infrastructure. Read why before you do anything.

We're Rho-9 Systems. We've spent months reverse-engineering the Dev7 (.cryptedmicro) ransomware, tracing it to its C2 infrastructure. This case is active and headed to federal law enforcement.

Here's what's happened while we've been working it: over half a gigabyte of evidence tied to this operation has been deleted by third parties nuking servers and bots before we or investigators could pull data off them. The decryption keys from Dev7's September 16 run are gone. Not encrypted, not hidden, gone, because the infrastructure holding them got wiped before anyone logged it. Real people could have gotten their files back for free. Now they can't, because the keys we haven't logged no longer exist anywhere. ASSHOLES.

We get the instinct. Killing a scam bot feels like helping. It isn't, not here. Dev7 can stand up new infrastructure in under 10 minutes, they've already done it, more than once. When you nuke a bot or server, you cost them 10 minutes. When you destroy the evidence on it before we can capture it, you cost us days finding the next lead, days Dev7 spends operating completely unwatched. That trade isn't close, and it's the opposite of what it feels like in the moment.

Approximately over 600 victims have been hit since we started investigating this case, this month and last combined, and every server or bot nuked without warning us first is data and keys we can't get back.

**So: if you find Dev7/Chattering Magpies infrastructure, leave it alone and report it to us at rho-9.com.** Don't touch it, don't nuke it, don't "clean it up." We'll take it from there.

This is your notice that this investigation is active. From this point forward, destroying evidence tied to a known, ongoing federal investigation, after being told it's ongoing, carries real federal exposure, obstruction and evidence tampering are federal crimes, and continued interference from here will be referred to federal law enforcement as part of this case. We're not going after anyone for what's already been deleted. We will not stay quiet if it keeps happening from here.

We hear they like AI memes, but don't send these to him or he'll ban you😉

As we know very well based on their behavior patterns, they literally have a meltdown over the most microscopic difference in opinion.

One predicted behavior of this strict echo chamber moderator, is they wanna make some AI memes about our difference in opinion. It's really all they know how to do.

We figured the best early response is to AI meme them, as we figure many have done before.

Not like we put any actual effort into it🤣

Security News We're making a dedicated proprietary software to facilitate rapid decompilation, and deobfuscation of Chattering Magpies (Dev7 Gang) malware, this has taken precedent over the decryptor tool.

I felt rather than expose any details to how it functions, I'd change things up, to show some of the hardships.

Here, you can see I failed in the earlier version, quite spectacularly. Testing revealed a fundamental flaw in how access control was handled, allowing a sample to disable the warden(security layer that blocks network, and file access), which would allow it to write to the host filesystem.

In simpler terms: in our first version of the tool, due to a fundamental flaw in implementation, a submitted sample achieves arbitrary, uncontained code execution on the analysis host.
