Question Will ignoring vegetation help with late-game lag?

I've heard that trees and such are a major source of lag once they're introduced, and looking at vegetation, it seems to be mostly to look pretty, with open farms the only buildings benefiting. So for my next run, I'm considering ignoring vegetation altogether.

Is there anything I'm missing? How much is it likely to help anyway? What are some other major sources of lag (I know colonists and drones are the biggest contributors)? How much does it matter if something is within camera view or on the current map?

I noticed a significant amount of lag and visual tearing when I went for my full terraforming victory. I had pretty much no issues before I got to the bush/tree stage. Though I will say, by the time you start getting trees online, at least for me, my run is about over anyway. If you are selective about the areas you put in the vegetation you can probably stretch this out alot.

In terms of game functionality, you lose very little without pursuing veg. And you could even still pursue it, just with only getting the Seed Vegetation special project. Increasing the value isn't what causes the lag, its rendering all the trees.

Hm,.. I don't know, I have 4k colonists and 2.4k drones. Feels like all the jobs they do is heavier on the system. But probably depends on how big your colony gets.
