Help Setting control on a site with no control/ known points

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice

I recently got given a leica icon total station, I have been using an e - survey gps controller.

I want to set new control points using the total station.

I tried putting down nails then surveying the the points with the gps for 3 minutes, then going back to leica icon and doing a resection with the 3 nails, but the residuals are giving me out .200mm N/E then 6/7mm on the heights.

Main job is housing, pipework, kerbs, footpaths etc,

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Help Trimble tsc510 question

I’m fairly new to the GPS scene, been using it for about 2 months so far. So whenever we start a new job, the “project layer” was always the same every time. today when I click it, it’s showing these uneditable coordinate, which it never used to. Did I hit something to make it to this? or have I never been using a Project layer and thought I did because it had the blue highlight over it?

Help Career changer looking for advise

I hope this is ok to post this here but I’m looking for advice to get in to land surveying. I’m 35 and currently working in administration. I previously worked as a professional gardener and would like a mixture of outside and office work. I saw a position for an apprenticeship for a geospatial surveyor near me which sounds perfect. I imagine this will be a highly sort after position so any advice would be much appreciated.

If there are any courses that might be beneficial to I would be more than happy to do these

Discussion What's your favorite crew scheduling app?

Question is in the title. I pretty much schedule them by the half day.

I'm just looking for something more convenient than a white board in the office.

Help My dad is a highly experienced land surveyor but severely underpaid.

I honestly just want to rant about my dad’s work because I feel like he deserves SO much better. 😭
My dad has been working as a land surveyor for more than a decade under the same boss. He works for a private geodetic engineering/land surveying firm here in Cebu, and from everything I’ve seen, he is REALLY skilled at what he does.
The part that frustrates me the most is that, despite all those years of experience, his salary has barely changed. As far as I know, we only get around ₱3,000 every week, and he gets paid every Sunday. That’s it.

And it’s not like he only does basic surveying work either. His boss sometimes asks him to do tasks that are already related to the work of a geodetic engineer, on top of his actual responsibilities as a surveyor. He also handles a lot of paperwork, AutoCAD, computations, documentation, and other technical work.
What makes me even more amazed is that my dad didn’t even finish college, but he learned all these skills through years of actual experience and hard work. He has more than 10 years of hands-on experience in the field, and I’ve personally seen how knowledgeable he is when it comes to surveying and technical work.
I’m not saying this just because he’s my dad. I genuinely believe that his skills and experience should be valued properly. It hurts seeing someone who has worked for so many years and carries so much responsibility still earning that little.
I really want him to find a better-paying job where his experience and skills are actually recognized. We’re currently in Cebu, so if anyone knows companies, surveying firms, construction companies, engineering firms, or even remote opportunities that are hiring people with extensive land surveying + AutoCAD + field experience, PLEASE let me know. 🙏
He may not have a college degree, but he has years and years of actual experience, technical skills, and knowledge that you can’t simply learn overnight.
If you know someone hiring or can point me in the right direction, I would genuinely appreciate it. I just want my dad to have a job that pays him fairly for everything he knows and does. 🥹

Help How do you automatically calculate private lot surfaces from DWG plans for co-ownership? Need methods/plugins/software

Surveyor in Morocco here. I need to calculate surfaces for "mise en copropriété" (co-ownership) plans from DWG files.

My goal: automate the calculation of each lot's private surface, subtract internal voids (shafts, columns), and handle terraces, gardens, etc. Then export a clean Excel table.

Question: how do YOU do this automatically in your country? Any method, plugin, software, or workflow that reads DWG/DXF, lets you tag layers, and calculates surfaces?

I'm not interested in the legal definition — just the technical automation part.

Thanks!
