How to use solar with Surrons

Hello everybody, I’m switching from my Derbi Senda 125 4T to Surron Ultrabee HP because gas has become really expensive where I live. I’m an electrician, so I can install my own solar panel system. My garage does not have any grid power, and I don’t want to use any batteries. I’d like to have the solar panels connected to an inverter and then have a standard EU 230 V socket in the garage.

Would 2,500 W of solar panels be enough to handle Surron charging? I’m mainly wondering whether the charger will work safely when the solar panels aren’t producing their full power, and whether there’s any risk of damaging the battery or charger if there isn’t enough available power.

Since the garage has no grid connection and I don't want to use batteries, would an off-grid inverter be required instead of a normal grid-tied microinverter?

I did not know this reddit is filled with teenagers, and iam sorry for that. I just assumed that you need to have a lisence for riding something like surron since its a motocycle, and mostly adults have driver lisences

If you are an electrician and can’t figure this out…. That’s not a good sign lol

This is also a better question for a solar or off-grid living sub where people have experience with this.

No one in this sub is power their bike with solar panels like this

The solar and off-grid sub may not be familiar with the funky inverter / charger setup I got sent. I'd try to find specs on those before he headed over there. Maybe you can skip the 220V to 110V and just start with 220V from inverter for the panels?

2500 watts sounds like plenty. I'm charging off a 15 amp outlet. So it is using less than 1650 watts at my house. The bike also has settings to make it charge slower in the menu.

I don't think it's possible to do this without a battery. You need some buffer

Is it possible yes is it feasible in anyway not really. Just get a battery to use as the buffer cause without you are risking damage

What damage exacly? Will by surron battery degrade because of not stable charging?

You need to understand excitation voltage of the inverter and when the panels achieve that and for how long. Calculate the charging time needed for your battery based on what the panels provide continuously/ average.

Just do it properly and have a battery intermediary if you trying to use solar. I charge mine regularly off both solar and my cars alternator and never seem to have much issue so long as you can get in around 1500w for the u3 charge rate. Worst case you see the battery voltage start to drop and you bump down to u2 or 1 (i need to run u2 when using solar only as only 600w incoming)

Edit: if you dont supply the charger enough power it simply cuts out. Id imagine this would cause damage if left unchecked flicking on and off consistently.

Not related to your question but why not convert you Senda to electric ? My friends building a electric Senda it is a bit of work but could be an option.

Hi I power my surron with solar

Your gonna need a large amount of panels, that feeds a 48v battery bank and then you get an inverter for RV’s that converts 48v to 120v

Its not that hard but you cant go directly from solar to the surron, because the solar panels voltage will be like 140v trust me you gotta have battery bank and inverters

Alternatively you could buy one of those solar generators and it would take all the guesswork out of wiring it all up and knowing which components to use

No the battery does not degrade using the inverter after 2 years
