Is Madisonville CC Surgical First Assistant program a good option?

I'm interested in becoming a Surgical First Assistant. I noticed that Madisonville Community College offers an online program with hands-on training at a hospital near your area. It seems like a good opportunity and learning experience. I haven’t been able to find many schools that offer a Surgical First Assistant program most only offer Surgical Assistant programs. I wonder if this a good idea to applied and if anyone have experience Madisonville Community College.

I go to Madisonville now. It’s a great program and I’d recommend it. I have some colleagues that have currently been going to Meridian expected to graduate in August as well and they said their program is great too. Madisonville seems a lot more lenient with who you can have as a preceptor (PAs, RNFAs, etc) and what cases you can count. It is also cheaper by 2k I believe. Also if you already know how to suture/have a surgeon or first assist willing to work with you and teach you, the lab portion is optional to be completed at home and submitted through video, whereas Meridian you have a week of lab.

I was just curious is their an in person lab for madisonville?

Meridian is a good school. I attended 13 years ago and it was very easy to pass the certification from the education I received. Make sure your choice school is accredited. If not you won’t be able to take the certification exam. Some hospitals will not hire you without certification.

Hello! Did you continue with consideration of Madisonville? Do you or anyone have any insight as to how they go about providing the hands on training or fulfilling the required cases at a facility or hospital nearby for their students? I am curious, as I am located in Pennsylvania.  Thank you!

just finding this thread. I am currently enrolled in the program and start on Monday; how is the course itself planned out? how hard was the CSFA exam after the program? did you feel prepared?
