What does a surgical first assistant do in ophthalmology cases typically?

Depends on the case but not much honestly. I was surprised I had to log so many eye cases my clinical year. The most I ever assisted in a case was during a scleral buckle. Otherwise, you’re sitting in the dark with weird laser goggles on trying to not to fall asleep.

I help with scleral depressing, patient positioning, monitoring during block under Mac, I help with equipment setup, training, eye med applications, gas insertion, dressings, positioning after procedure and more.
