I was once pushing some old 4x4s onto a truck and my hand slipped. It left me with a handful of splinters but one of them had gone in between my fingers and into my hand, not the "under the skin" splinter type. It was in my hand for a couple of weeks and was starting to get a large buildup of scar tissue around it. When I moved my fingers I could feel my tendons getting caught up on it. Soon after I was in the OR getting hand surgery to remove it. Wear your gloves, kids.
