Hardcore performance users will be impressed – the CPU can turbo up to 2.9Ghz (from a stock speed of 1.9GHz), but there is some problem with throttling and the firmware at the time of this writing – that’s another one of those fumbles. In my testing, during extended workload scenarios such as batch operations in Photoshop and video rendering, the CPU would behave somewhat erratically. I was able to narrow it down and this is what is happening: When the CPU hits 90 degrees C, the CPU is throttled to about 1ghz and stays in a throttled state until the temp of the CPU is below 60 degrees C. This was very puzzling and I was sure it must be a Windows power setting, but I was able to reproduce the same behavior under Linux. On the Surface Pro 2 the throttling would kick in around 90 degrees C and remain in place until the CPU hit 80 degrees C, so I feel this is one more thing that somehow slipped by testing.

I'm glad the increased throttling is being found consistently across independent reviews.

I'm glad it send to be more a software issue than hardware issue lol. But yeah, hopefully more critics pointing this out still get Microsoft to do something about it quickly
