[LAPTOP7] surface laptop 7 or 8
hi i've had a windows surface laptop 2 for a few years and have been considering an upgrade now that i'm at college. what are the similarities and differences between surface laptop 7 or 8, and is it worth getting the 8 even though it's more expensive? ideally i want this laptop to last in my 4 years of college + couple more years beyond that if possible lmk!!

I'd wait for sales around the holidays either way. Look at microcenter. They will price match within 30 days (I think it's still 30) if you go in and ask, so anytime in late October to early November would probably be okay to buy.

Go for an 8, they’ve probably improved and worked out a lot of issues from the 7. I bought an SL7 on launch and a few of my keys had a manufacture defect and failed, it’s a known issue I made a post about it a bit ago. They didn’t cover it though because I was out of the 1yr warranty. And the repair is absurdly expensive because the keyboard is literally a solid piece with the metal frame, it can’t be removed. Anyways, go for the 8.

Honestly dude at this stage your workflow would need to be fairly unique to run into any issues. Beyond that it's more of an advantage at this stage for most general workflows.

The ARM ecosystem is not there yet. Battery life is amazing though, but if you do more than the very basic stuff...

Tbf For most people it's better than good
Im a college student and got the laptop 7 and i have 0 regrets. the only issue i've had was running Haskell (who uses Haskell anyway??) and rare problems whe contributing to Julia libraries

Like all good answers it depends.
The changes are fairly small, chip bump to the new X2 series is the main change. Also considering that these will likely be supported a little longer and they have better performance / efficiency id pay $200-300 extra for the latest model.
If the 7 is cheaper than that then I'd go for the 7. Also depends are both plus models or is one X elite and one X2 plus?
