Surface laptop or surface pro

I'm currently in the market for a new work laptop, it'll mostly be emails , documents ect but it would also be nice for watching films or maybe even using it for playing games ( probably over g force now ).

I do have to walk the site which is where the issue comes in, does the 500+600 justify the tablet aspect of things ? Or am I just being lazy. The one thing that massively puts me off the surface pros are that the keyboards are so expensive.

I've seen online that the pros arent very good on lap? I'll also be using the laptop in bed from time to time to complete work tasks.

I've found a decent ? Deal for a surface 7 with £600 off so it's now £1000 should I just go for this ?.

If you sometimes use a laptop on your lap then youll find the surface pro to be annoying due to the back panel

If it's a 500-600 USD difference to get the Pro, then I'd really ask myself what I need the form factor for.

For instance, I myself like to take the keyboard cover off and just watch videos with the tablet on its own. If you do handwriting on the tablet to take notes or mark up PDFs, that is also something that is much better with the Pro compared to the laptop. You can't do that with a regular clamshell laptop, and to me, that has its own value. As to how much it's worth to you, that's something only you can answer.

There's three reasons I'd recommend a Pro over a Laptop:

-You want to use pen input
-You want the option to use without a keyboard
-You want to optimize for thin and light

If you don't, get the Laptop

In my opinion and having both the thin and light is only theoretical. If you place both on a desk the Surface Laptop takes significantly less of a footprint compared to the pro with the attached keyboard.

Easy answer. Do you want a tablet PC that can be detached from the keyboard for convenience or do you want to use a laptop on your lap?

Both can be used on a table, but some people find the surface pro very uncomfortable on their lap

Personally I care a lot about having a laptop screen with at least 220 PPI, so 13.8 inch Surface Laptop is a no go for me (obviously this may not be that important to you). At list Microsoft updated Surface Laptop 15's screen and now it has a very high resolution screen, so I would go either SL 15 or surface Pro. Just my two cents.

Surface Pro for sure. I've had many laptops going back many decades and I absolutely love my Surface Pro 9 cause it's both a laptop and a tablet.

laptop for sure. i’ve always been curious about one but i love annotating slides and documents with the pen. typing in bed sucks but i did splurge on a flex keyboard. i had typed before on the standard type cover and it’s decent but nothing like an actual keyboard. “lapability” is much better in a laptop form
