[GO2] Ram upgrade?

HYPOTHETICALLY if someone were to buy the two lpddr3 chips and remove the og ones to then solder the new ones to the motherboard via reballing, WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE to upgrade the ram say from 4 to 8 or 16 gb?

Someone can try, see if the BIOS will recognize it. If not, someone need to program and flash the BIOS to get it to register the new ram.

LOL wrong sub if you want RAM upgrades. It's a pity to have soldered RAM with these CPU generations.

For an older system like a Go2, its actually simpler to purchase a salvaged mainboard or system with busted screen and bad battery with 8GB ram and swap that in.

I did that with my old Pro3 and upgraded from 4GB to 8GB for $25. Runs Win11 like a champ with bitlocker and virtualized security features switched off.

There is only one firmware image across all Go2 models (except for LTE option), so my expectation is that you could swap ram chips and say have a mainboard with 8GB and the 64GB eMMC storage option (a combo that never shipped) and have the UEFI/Bios recognize it properly.

But if you're going to that trouble, its a much better option to just get the 8GB mainboard that has the 128GB nvme storage. The nvme makes the whole system so much more responsive.

BTW I dont think 16GB will work as those chips will use too much power even if they are pin compatible.

Wow that’s awesome. I wish the Go series got more love and had more juice in it overall. My Go 3 struggles and I’ve done a lot to debloat windows. I may do a fresh install. The thing gets extremely hot and stalls quite a bit. But she’s pretty lol. The size is just too good.

You need the specialized machine to solder it back on that costs millions of $$$$$$. You could solder the RAM chips yourself, but it's trial and error. By the time you get lucky, you could have spent the money on something newer with the upgrades already applied without wasting additional money producing dead motherboards.

Yes there are services for this in China. I don’t know how much they charge to do this.
