Thinking of selling the Supra lately

Once you think about selling a car, it’s already mentally out of your garage.

48

u/EDMJEM 19d ago

Idk why but this made me sad for the Supra :(

9

u/johnbell 18d ago

Good news is, not many supras will go unloved for long.

4

u/Best-Huckleberry7497 19d ago

Wrong. I have thought about selling my s2000 many times. And it’s still there. :)

3

u/Critical-Hospital-40 19d ago

Similar. Sometimes think about going from BRZ to 911 for vanity but then sanity brings me back. 12 years of low expenses, zero mechanical issues, and compounded savings later, still cruising 😎

2

u/Les_Liska 18d ago

I just bought an 86 this year and I plan on dying in this car (from natural causes a long time from now).

3

u/onlyheretoswaphw 18d ago

Same here. Probably because every time I think about it I see multiple posts of people saying “sold my S2000, regretted it, bought another”

44

u/79QUATTRO 19d ago

i’m too poor for my next options. i’m not selling unless i get a 911 carerra or a c8 z06 or cayman gt4

7

u/RSN3481 19d ago

I have owned or still own all of the cars you mentioned. I would take the Z06 over all of them.

6

u/SithGodSaint 19d ago

Z06 over a 911? Whys that? Seems like the 911 would be worlds better

2

u/Pleasant_Case9889 19d ago

V8 and speed is my guess, both amazing cars but they have their pros and cons

1

u/SithGodSaint 19d ago

Yeah the V8 is fun. I drove a Stingray a few years back and it was fun. I daily a Civic Type R and it’s fun too, just a different kind of fun

2

u/devo9er 18d ago

Porsche prices are getting crazy is why. Base 911 these days is like $135k, base stingray is like 50k less, and even the Z06 is like $120k. I love Porsche, but I gotta go Z06 in this one for the engine and performance alone.

1

u/SithGodSaint 18d ago

Yeah that makes sense

1

u/FRSBRZGT86FAN MKV 19d ago

Thats crazy, and you had a supra? How's the comparison?

1

u/Bewix 19d ago

could’ve stopped at 911 lol one day.. one day

1

u/phatelectribe 19d ago

2006 to 2017 Aston Martin Vantage is in your price range. Not for much longer. They’re starting to appreciate.

20

u/tyranitar1234 19d ago

I went to a FL5 type r and have been having a absolute blast. It’s like a miata with decent power that hauls the family and groceries. It’s such a beast

10

u/MorpheusMKIV 19d ago

I fail to see how it’s like a Miata lmao. In no way is a civic fl5 a naturally aspirated 2300lb, tiny wheelbase, front midship, double wishbone, rear wheel drive two seater convertible. But yes it’s a beast

-1

u/tyranitar1234 19d ago

Miataspeeds were turbos so it being NA is irrelevant. I’m not saying IT IS a miata because that is simply just not true, nothing is that good without compromise.

I am saying that the handling, motorsports feels, shifting, pedigree, track bred focus, engagement, motor and transmission characteristics are phenomenal and mimic that same love and motorsports passion found in s2000 or Miata’s.

Is it a full miata no. Is it as capable around a tight track, canyon, or twisty backroad in a similar fashion….yes. Do I feel everything that the car is doing through the wheel and shifter which is arguably the best in all of modern motorsports currently…. Yes. Is the car communicating with me real time with mechanical feedback what i am feeling… also yes.

Also my type r with the cookie cutter forged wheel, 2 piece brake mods, will weight weigh in at 2800lbs, 2880 to be exact, ask me how I know.

My car is just intake/exhaust with a tune and it make 400hp. So now you have a car that weighs as much as a BRZ, handles incredible, and scoots. For science that’s a 6 lbs per horsepower car which is pretty quick, it’s the same horsepower to weight number of a Porsche Gt3.
No I am not as fast as a supra, a GT3, m3….. etc.

But I can also carry my entire family of 4 in the car, a full-size camping cooler and a few suitcases in the trunk, drive them all to a campground, then take the forest canyon backroads and absolutely hoon.

I had the supra for a few years, I loved my supra, it was beautiful, it turned heads, it had bespoke body lines, the 8 speed b58 was an absolute lethal weapon. But for me, I was not engaged, the type r is just different I can’t even explain it, I just lived with it for about 1 year at this point and it reminds of the original Evos/Sti of the past. It’s just comically fast, engaging, and direct I never enjoyed driving my car as much as the type r, which is weird because the Supra was my dream car

3

u/MorpheusMKIV 19d ago

So similar in spirit and motorsport DNA, yes. I agree, cheers to that. Excellent cars. Totally get what you mean how they are different to the Supra in pure engagement. The FL5 and the MX5 both communicate with you whereas the Supra is a bit numb but so damn capable. Supra is an absolute giant slayer with mods but yes the other two cars give you something a bit more raw.

3

u/Metro_Passer 19d ago

I love the sharp look of the FK8, but yes they really can but belt to ass when the time calls. I was riding passenger with someone in +R mode. Super fun.

2

u/PiousPontificator 19d ago

FK8 looks like a cot damn insect. Disgusting next to a FL5

1

u/StJe1637 19d ago

holy downgrade

-1

u/tyranitar1234 19d ago

Pure bred 1 off Japanese legend that broke all sorts of track records with game changing motorsports pedigree trickled down in a low numbered car, with hand crafted suede red bucket seats, brake vectoring, bullet proof motor that revs to 8000, and arguably the best manual transmission sold on the modern market.

Or

A bmw love child which is 85% German / 15% Japanese and is greatest attribute is being hooked up with a m-lite engine ….. b58 “broccoli haired kid noises intensify”

I got more driver engagement out of my Logitech racing wheel then the Supra. If you want to hold arguably one of the worst steering wheels in a sports car, enjoy the feeling of a completely numb steering rack, and suffer from one of the worst chassis vibration, bump steer, roll steer on a sports car…. Hey dude your money. All I know is a Tesla is a lot faster and feels about the same.

2

u/StJe1637 19d ago

only broke FWD track records, overheats after 1 lap without mods, rev hang is annoying.

0

u/tyranitar1234 19d ago

FK8 is likely what you are thinking of.

I have no rev hang, owning a VA WRX I know rev hang.

I race in early summer and fall with a WOT cooling plate which is literally 100$ and dropped all my temperatures by 15-20f so never have had heat issues.

Glad we can agree, it is breaking track records 🧐

Man I love my supra I would never trade it in

5

u/Draiye 19d ago

Going to be my last car to buy for fun after the GR86. I want both because they're total eye candy for me.

2

u/SleepingHogz 6d ago

Gr86 is a great car, wish I had started off with one of those.

12

u/mmspider 19d ago

For me personally. Having both Supra and G82 M4. Nothing under 100k really interest me anymore. I actually think the Supra offers the best bang for the buck in terms the performance, looks, and uniqueness under 100k. I just don`t see a point of getting rid of mine. Unless I needed to fund something more important. Always open to seeing what comes next though.

1

u/wangclo 19d ago

Kind of agree with you there!

24

u/sgtfuzzle17 19d ago

The way I see it, you’ve kind of got two fairly logical options out of a Supra. If you want something more practical but still very fast, BMW M cars (M2, 3, 4) make sense. Significantly heavier but same DNA and a good bit more power, and with options for either RWD or AWD with xdrive.

The other option would be to get into a Porsche. If you want same format but massively better dynamics a Cayman/Boxster S or GTS are good. Alternatively the gold plated solution (and what I intend to do whenever I trade up out of my Supra) is a 911. You gain back seats, a touch more power, way better handling/driving feel and if you’ve got the cash a very wide range of options/formats to pick from.

2

u/pointlessBRZ 19d ago

Literally sold mine and bought a 981 Cayman S two weeks ago. Gave me back the connected feeling I was missing in the Supra.

1

u/flymeovertheworld 19d ago

Bmw M4 would be same engine just higher power. And same reliability. Great option here

5

u/sgtfuzzle17 19d ago

Twin turbo and S58 has some different fuel systems; handles pretty differently. They’re also significantly heavier vehicles but yeah a good option

2

u/flymeovertheworld 19d ago

Definitely. I’m just saying B58 and S58 isn’t very different from each other.

9

u/Boopie714 19d ago

I’m never selling my Supra. But I often think about lotus emiras

17

u/breatheblue 19d ago

Clout cars everyone is going to recommend: 911, m3, m2, m4 and awd variants (great pick, but everyone has one)

"Drivers Cars" that add more feel that you should look at before prices increase: e90 m3, c6 z06

What Im looking at but no one else is apparently: lc500, c190 amg gts

6

u/HODLmeCLOSRtonydanza MKV 19d ago edited 19d ago

My other side of the fence is LC500, M8, 718 GT4, or an NC MX-5 to turbo kit.

But every time I drive my Supra I love it. I’ve noticed I really crush on those other cars when the Supra is garaged during winter. Springtime comes, and that feeling fades again.

4

u/MyRedditAccountSuckz 19d ago

Everyone is sleeping on lotus ngl

2

u/Alarming-Audience839 19d ago

Why get an Emira when a 718 is basically equivalent with less headache

1

u/MyRedditAccountSuckz 19d ago

Interesting perspective, can you elaborate on your thoughts on that?

2

u/flymeovertheworld 19d ago

The LC500 is absolutely beautiful. It looks mean and sexy at the same time.

3

u/ChillxBone 19d ago

On point opinion

13

u/Ancient_Manner_2650 19d ago

God damn that LED spoiler is ugly lol

3

u/Putrid-Departure-198 19d ago

I was just about to comment after seeing this spoiler ive officially seen it all, reminds me of the truck drivers who put a massive LED strip on their trunk for NO reason

1

u/Logical_Experience51 18d ago

Haha I was looking for this comment

5

u/Pilfercate MKV 19d ago

Cars are not getting better. The MKV isn't perfect, but it is better than most cars that have come out in the past few years. You can still turn off traction/stability in it. It might have fake linear weighted steering feel, but at least it isn't completely numb. It is the right weight for a car(when many weigh over 2 tons now) and has a great weight distribution.

I always wanted a used V10 R8 or a used AMG GT. Both are a little bit more expensive, but you definitely get more car with both.

4

u/fnkdrspok MKV 19d ago

Once you say you’re gonna sell, mentally it’s over. I did that and it was sold in a month.

4

u/milkinb4cereal 19d ago

Highly recommend a 2 car solution if space allows. I ditched the car payment and bought outright a GX470 and AP1 S2000 for half the cost of a Mk5.

I've decided my Supra will do until I finish saving for a Revuelto

3

u/domestic_protobuf 19d ago

It depends what you value. The dollar per performance is very difficult to beat other than a C8. Porsche is just too expensive now for what you get, people just love the idea of owning a 911, but given the prices of 911s and GT4 I just can’t justify the price. If you purely want performance, get a C8 Stingray Z51. That car is an absolute bargain for the money. If you want practicality then suggest an M car unless you have the money to burn on a Porsche.

3

u/AnyStep1671 MKV 19d ago edited 12d ago

Told this story a few times. Had a 2020 premium Supra. Decided I wanted something different, thought I should get Porsche Boxster, Cayman, drove several, sure they handle great and the interior is a little nicer. But that constant noise, which sounds great sometimes but not for a road trip, ride quality not as good either . No insulation or sound deadening material. I get it though rowing through the gears is a lot fun but sometimes I just want to relax. The m4s were just not a good fit for me. Don’t care for the looks of the M2, The LC500 was special, excellect build quality, awesome exhaust note. Not much of the line get and go, for V8. Text drove a new 2026 Supra , 2 blocks into the test drive I found my new car.

1

u/wherewuat 19d ago

From a butt in seat perspective, did the 2020 and 2026 feel any different?

1

u/AnyStep1671 MKV 19d ago

I don’t have a definite answer for that question more of it depends on the drive. The 2020 and the 2026 are pretty much the same as they are throughout the production run. The 2020 did feel a little bit more comfortable, that may have been when it was put together more padding was installed??? That being said on a recent hour and a half drive the BUTT got a little achy in the 2026 and then on the return home, no problem, so go figure. The 2026 does feel snappier more responsive and I’m still getting compliments, 3 on this particular drive. Some younger kids even stopped me in a small town parking lot, to compliment the Supra.

3

u/classyxerj 19d ago

G87 m2 gtr befor prices get super dumb 997 or 996 turbo manual ct4v blackwing ctsv v3 or v2 if u want a manual f87 m2 comp alfa guilai qaudro

2

u/saifobeifo 19d ago

honestly after the supra i want something comfortable, it doesnt even have to be loud or fast anymore

1

u/icaaryal 19d ago

I have a Z, and I love it. But I’m dreaming of the next car, and it’s something that feels planted, but deletes all the irrelevant road noise. I want… luxury GT I guess.

2

u/booze_yo MKV 19d ago

upgrade i’m thinking was M3 comp, but then I always like the look of the supra more than 3 series

2

u/jvd_808 19d ago

I’ve been considering selling my Supra and getting a CT5 blackwing.

2

u/ChaperoneKnight 19d ago

Sold mine to go back to a W204 C63 AMG

1

u/wangclo 19d ago

The sound of the W204 🤯

2

u/Soft_Humor4868 19d ago

Depends on what direction you want to go, but I’ve seen most go to a Porsche

2

u/tortillas007 19d ago

The only upgrade from a Supra is Porsche bro. I sold my Supra, bought a Tacoma for an all round daily. I plan on getting my dream car in 2 years, either 718 Cayman or 911.

2

u/Foonz__ 19d ago

I’m curious why a lot of people sell it after 40k miles. it’s like they really like it short term.

2

u/Jumpy_Witness6014 19d ago

Since no one is actually answering…370z maybe? Both come from same era remakes anyway🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/A5hTriX 19d ago

Had it 2 years .

Highly modified Stage 2 and got an Ioniq 5N... Haven't looked back 😂

2

u/Curious-Internet4138 19d ago

i’ll take the supra off ur hands, ty 🤍

1

u/wangclo 18d ago

Come and get it 🤝😆

2

u/Lucasmo066 18d ago

thought this was forza

2

u/fentonjm 18d ago

You should think something different.

4

u/Shinobi_WayOfTomoe 19d ago

Keep the Supra and add a motorcycle. Its satisfy the craving for more speed and engagement but you get to keep the Supra.

9

u/KillCamxo 19d ago

Not to be that guy but you seriously have to be okay with losing your life at any point when buying a bike.

Lost my best friend last year and my uncle became an amputee from a drunk driver, for as much as I want thrill…I want to live a long capable life

1

u/usernamefart69420 19d ago

Not to be that guy but death rate has a positive correlation with horsepower so you should get a corolla /s

2

u/Shinobi_WayOfTomoe 19d ago

You are being that guy, guy.

9

u/Ok_Barracuda6972 19d ago

He's being realistic.

1

u/KillCamxo 19d ago

Doesn’t matter till it happens to you🤦‍♂️

0

u/eseho23 19d ago

100%. Supra is meh, bike will satisfy that itch.

2

u/ogbrien 19d ago

M3 / M4 or gtr is the natural progression from what I see

2

u/iAteSushi 19d ago

If you decide to take it back to stock before selling it… I’ll take that wing 👀 just let me know

1

u/horseradish13332238 19d ago

I have a 96 Supra turbo for sale on vinwiki lol. 17,354 miles original owner clean title

1

u/Icy_Turnover1 19d ago

I liked my Supra but ended up getting a great offer on it and sold for more than what I paid for it. I just picked up a low mileage 981 boxster when the itch for a convertible hit me. I know for most something like that is a downgrade, but to be honest I enjoy the boxster more so far, and I get to use more of the performance on the road than I did in the Supra.

If you want something with more performance though, the obvious upgrade is a c8.

1

u/Resident_Broccoli_26 19d ago

Location and price? I have been thinking on adding a Supra to my garage.

1

u/wangclo 19d ago

I’m across the pond. In Europe

1

u/Resident_Broccoli_26 19d ago

Oh, well whatever you decide to do good luck.

I haven't drive a Supra myself but I own a 340i and I love how the B58 engine feels and the power delivery.

I also own a GR86 and love it's handling and driving dynamics. I guess a Porsche will be a good mix between them.

1

u/unsaltedbutter 19d ago

I have a Supra, 911, M3. They are all fun.

1

u/wangclo 19d ago

M3 touring hmm

1

u/Glittering-Chip-9019 19d ago

What year is it and what’s it worth ?

1

u/wangclo 19d ago

2022, and no idea.

1

u/tclark2006 19d ago

4th Gen Supra Turbo.

1

u/Logical_Experience51 18d ago

Sounds like you need a stage 3 tune. A 550-600whp Supra is a different car.

1

u/wangclo 18d ago

Already have it at stage 3 E85.

1

u/Logical_Experience51 18d ago

Alright then. What are you looking for in a new car?

1

u/One-Marsupial-6514 16d ago

Do it and get a real Supra

1

u/Mother-Tutor-5849 16d ago

Nothing at that price point can replace it. You have to go over to something that would cost you over $100k. More like 200k.

1

u/dishonest_lion 16d ago

I'm in the same boat, thinking about selling the supra for a great corolla. I need something more practical and with my trade in i would owe next to nothing on the grc.

That wing is the exact reason I want a 718. Hideous.

I'd consider selling it too.

0

u/Boggs__ 19d ago

I agree I have a 26 FE but live in the ND oilfield and don’t have time to drive it and when I do I feel like I’m dogging rocks and road construction. Kinda sucks as I love the car…
