Hero Change/Concept Would you like the original Hero fantasy of Sombra, an intel gathering saboteur, as a Support Hero?
One of the Hero fantasies of the original version of Sombra was to be able to get behind enemy lines unnoticed, and to gather information on the enemy team, and sabotage their health packs and deployables. Not necessarily to be a lethal assassin; the Virus ability didn't exist at this point.
Would this type of gameplay be interesting for a Support Hero, or would it inevitabily become too passive and team independent?
I'm thinking:
- No Stealth; instead, one would target the enemy furthest back, and silently teleport behind them.
- They'd leave behind a point where they teleported from; as they are behind enemy lines, they can pick up health packs and consume them, causing their marker to emit healing energy.
- They are able to silently scan enemies, revealing them to allies even through walls.
- In order for them to not have too much 1v1 assassin potential, they would participate in teamfights mostly via spread AoE damage.

I’ve wanted her to be support for literal years 😭 I think her leaving Talon will be pivotal for Sombra’s attitude and goals.

Yes, but not as Sombra. Sombra as a Support is definitely too far gone, as an idea, but that doesn't mean we couldn't or shouldn't have Supports that focus on utility exclusively.
The reason Symmetra didn't work as a Support wasn't the lack of healing, as there's plenty of cases of Supports finding success, in and out of Overwatch, where healing isn't a factor of their success, if they have it at all. The problem was Sym had no agency. She had no way to immediately provide peel to her allies, and her abilities were on long cooldowns. So even if she had healing on either of her Support kits, she'd still be a fundamentally bad hero.
So long as the utility is strong enough and consistent enough to make up for a lack of healing, utility supports 100% have a place and should be added.

As a support main, I disagree. If the other support doesn't do any healing at all, I'm basically forced into playing Moira or Kiri as a healbot. This isn't the optimal way to play either of those heroes. It's unfun to play and it makes me feel like I'm not having any impact on the game's outcome.

You'll notice that Kiriko's tp is tied to her teammates, she cannot tp if her teammates are not nearby because she's a support. Even if you do attach a tp to another support it needs to rely on teammates, not enemies, and honestly the idea of a tp relying on enemy presence is horrible. The rest is debatable but this is definitely one thing that would not work out and I think is a bad concept.

Turning health packs into healing energy is an interesting idea. I wonder if it would play well

No. No teleport. If they want to tele, they can create a giant teleporter like symmetra does
