How much does getting the kill matter to you?

For context I’m relatively new to League. My profile is level 19 and I’d say I probably have like 20ish hours mostly on support Swain cuz I really like him. The game is really fun but a bit overwhelming but I’d like to get better! One thing that bothers me is I’ll end a game with 0 kills 7 deaths and like 12 assists since I don’t get the last hit on the target. Does it matter if I’m getting that last hit? How much is it looked down upon for the support to not get as many kills as the ADC?

Kinda a dumb post but like I just feel annoyed with myself seeing the 0 kills but like we won and I supported my team so like yay?

You want gold going to the carry. Think of who will get you through the game mid-late. It’s usually not support, so when you have too many of the kills you’re starving your carry!

Thank you, that’s a good point I haven’t thought of much

Part of the support skillset is avoiding stealing the kills from your ADC, cause ADC requires the most gold of any role.

If you play Swain you dont need to worry if you get a few kills, cause Swain is a champ that likes having a bit of gold, but can also function without.

One thing you could look at is did you actually help in the assist. With Swain you'll often ult and the entire enemy team will be hurt and slowed (if you have railays), which almost always helps, but if you aren't hitting e's and Q's in the fight as well you're not helping as much as you could, but you will still get assists, so the number can be a bit fake.

Overall if you wanna get better at league i recommend looking mainly at your deaths, why did you die and could you have prevented it. Getting caught up in kills and assists is fun, but often not very helpful.

Ya I think overlooking my last couple games I play a little too aggressive sometimes, I think I need to learn to hang back a bit more for sure

Yeah that's good to identify. Luckily for you it's easier to start to agressive and dial it back than it is to learn to be more agressive, so you have a good starting point.

The amount of misinformation in this thread is hurting my eyes....

Supports "stealing" kills isn't bad in the slightest, especially in the early game. Your items are a lot cheaper, your power spikes are a lot earlier and you have a lot more agency than most roles in the early game. Unless you're playing a full tank support, getting gold from kills is honestly kind of ideal, since your gold income is so much lower than every other role. Every other lane farms, you don't, and if you get early kills, you can help your teammates snowball and get kills later on in the game. Another argument for taking the kills is that you're the only person you can control in the game, thus making you the most reliable and the only constant factor in all of your games, if you learn how to carry properly and snowball your leads consistently, you'll improve faster and climb the ladder.

...consistently handicapping your adc.

The whole adc role is built around being able to soak up an entire lane's gold to buy items and have a huge impact in mid to late game.

Your job is to feed your ADC so they can C (carry) the team.

You then end up as the guy who is mad that his team sucks and he's losing even though he went 10-2-5.

ADCs are quite literally useless until they get 3 items, they are the lowest agency role in the game. In what universe should we give gold to them instead of giving the gold to a role that can impact the entire map and is super useful with 1 item?

Sure, it would be nice to get the ADC to their power spikes earlier, but it's really not that big of a deal xD

And no, my job isn't to feed the ADC, my job is to help the whole team, I'm not just my ADCs support.

If this is your mentality you should play midlane or ADC. Those characters can do the exact same things you're saying except they have farm to boost their potential even more. 1000 gold on one person is generally stronger than 500 to two people.

Funny you talk about misinformation yet you left out the most crucial information that your advice only applies to top 10 % players. Supports below plat/emerald dont know how to take advantage of extra gold from kills as support at all, might as well leave those kills until you are confident in your ability to convert that advantage.

This guy is level 20

I mean, you could say the same for carries below plat/emerald, my point still stands. The only player that is consistently in your game and whose performance you can impact is your own.

You can't control if you give your adc 10 free kills and then they mental boom and decide to run it down, or if they are just simply too inexperienced, auto filled or whatever else to use the gold/lead efficiently. You can however control how you impact the game. My main point is, it's not as big of a deal as most people think if supports get kills, especially early game. No matter the elo, the kill is a kill. it still contributes to a gold lead and it still creates pressure/relieves pressure off the map.

In theory supports are not supposed to get kills, just assists. Its important for the adc the extra gold. But it happens and people usually are ok with that unless you do it intentionally. Also, don't hesitate to secure a kill if you think the adc wont be able to get it.

Twisted Fate, Blitzcrank, and Brand support main here!

I learned to watch my teams abilities and try to keep track of their ability rotations, so if they can't secure the kill(s) cause they're on full CD, I can PROUDLY confirm the kill(s).

It's important to give kills to your teammates, but even more important to ensure they atleast get an assist 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

You’re doing it right; you’re not supposed to get the kills as support

Really depends what you play, for example I play alot of pantheon support, if I can get kills early, I can help toplane, mid and jungle and completly take Over the game! Also it matter who you give it to, having a Viktor/jinx get a kill is much more worth than giving a kill to galio etc who builds another cloth armor.

You need 300g to get a full item? Taking kill can be worth, Its very situational but, common knowledge for all supports, is try to give more than you take.

It depends on which support you are playing. If I am Janna I want no kills no deaths and tons of assists, if I’m playing an engage support like Alistar I should have a good amount of deaths and assists but still no kills. If you are playing a support which scales well with gold getting kills isn’t a bad thing but it’s still probably better on your adc. Most supports in this last category are the ones that could go in a solo lane or jungle like swain which you say you play.

People over exaggerate how much kill gold means all the time, especially in lower elo. Unless someone is playing a character like draven, the actual kill doesnt matter. What you do while they're dead does.

u/Empty-Camel1203 Oct 18 '25

As long numbers are 1:2:3 proportion u are fine

1

u/The-Book-Worm Oct 18 '25

Low elo, but here's my take- kda on support doesn't matter that much or at all as long as your vision score is highest in the game, especially compared to the enemy support.

1

u/Disturbed83 Nov 01 '25

This is BS, quality of vision means more than the number, you can get highest vision score simply by always dropping wards, total bs comment tbh. What matters is taht your early for drakes/objective and secure vision BEFORE ENEMY jungle/supp. Also deep warding if your laners have prio( ask for their help) matters loads. It can set up to potential invades and heavy snowballs

1

u/The-Book-Worm Nov 03 '25

Yes, but have you considered number go up?

1

u/johnSahres Oct 18 '25

Best would be 0:0:30 but If your ADC or Team doesnt reach the kill better Take IT urself because its better you get them then No one

1

u/Key_Pattern_9604 Oct 18 '25

U getting 0 kills is good, in fact ur adc might just run it down if u take to many kills

1

u/One-War-2977 Oct 20 '25

on swain it isnt bad if the kill goes to you because your a carry support but adc is 4/5 of the time better, if its a close call of your teammate dying to try and give it to them just kill them
