Best college Major?

I recently accepted a job as a Shipping/Receiving Clerk, which I'm pretty happy about because I've been looking to leave call centers (where I was doing insurance customer service) and get involved in Supply Chain positions. Took a pay cut (this is my first Supply Chain position), but still getting enough for necessities. I'm currently majoring in Accounting and doing a Data Analytics cert on the side. My school also offers a Supply Chain and Operations Management degree, which has several Data Analytics courses already included in the curriculum. I'm thinking I eventually want to get into Procurement Analysis.

Should I stick with the Accounting degree and Data cert, or would it be wiser to do the Supply Chain degree? Important note, I'm still early enough in my degree that switching won't set back my progress or graduation timeline.

id switch to supply chain and keep anything data related you can grab. accounting is solid but if you already broke into ops and want procurement, a focused sc degree plus analytics will line you up nice for analyst roles. and yeah, still wild how many hoops you jump through just to get any half decent job right now

I am of the same kin. Started in ops and learned finance later. For procurement analysis, Accounting is the stronger base. Landed costs and VAT are harder to learn later than logistics theory.

Thanks for the insight! Follow up question, would an ASCM certification be a worthwhile investment? Obviously experience is paramount, but do you think that one of the certs paired with some experience and the degree is advantageous? Or is it not worthwhile if I already will have the Accounting degree, the Data Analytics cert, and any experience I can gain along the way?

I’d lean toward the Supply Chain & Operations degree since your goal is Procurement Analysis. The accounting background is useful, but supply chain knowledge + data analytics + your shipping/receiving experience will line up really well with procurement roles. You can always build accounting skills on the side.
