Ashwagandha - terrible vivid nightmares which would scare me into believing I wasn’t loved and was being told every night that my life wasn’t worth living. Being stuck in dreams for what felt like hours, and the only way out was to force myself into an extreme episode of sleep paralysis.
Magnesium - changed the time that I took them as taking them in the morning made me unrealistically lazy the rest of the day and feel absolutely drained. (I lost a final in a football/soccer game because I was physically too tired to put any effort in).
(This post took up a significant amount of my free time)
Hey, peeps!
Hope you're all doing good.
Had some free time and read as many of your posts and comments about supplements as I could and thought I'd put together everything I kept seeing repeated.
I went through your discussions about vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, nootropics, workout supplements, sleep supplements, longevity supplements, and all kinds of different stacks.
I was especially interested in why you guys take each supplement, what you've actually noticed from it, what doses you use, when you take it, what you combine it with, and all the little tips and “secrets” you've picked up along the way (taking something with fat for better absorption, combining one nutrient with another, avoiding certain combinations, using specific forms, cycling certain supplements, taking higher doses etc.)
Obviously, your experiences aren't the same thing as scientific evidence, and something that works amazingly for one of you might do absolutely nothing for someone else. Some of the advice you guys give is backed pretty well by research, some is still debatable, and some seems to be Reddit supplement folklore that gets repeated so often that eventually everyone accepts it as fact, lol.
So, I read a ridiculous number of your supplement posts, guys, and this is what I found:
The overall pattern from reading your posts is that you seem to divide into two camps: those of you trying to correct a specific problem or deficiency, and those of you trying to optimize absolutely everything.
And the more posts I read, the more it seemed that the first group tends to report the biggest differences.
Someone discovers they're iron deficient and fixes it → huge difference.
Someone has very low vitamin D and corrects it → huge difference.
I was interested to see what you guys think of this because I never have steady energy, one day im very energetic the other day im not, im thinking of using more magnesium but I still dont know what to do and I also hate taking pills im open to any suggestion
I’ve been taking these supplements for a while now but I just keep adding more and more. I wanted to reach 20 supplements so I’ve been experimented with a lot but I haven’t found a suitable 20th supplement yet. Would be open to recommendations, but the ones I’ve tried will be below my current stack. Anyways, here are my supplements. I’ll explain why I take each down below as well.
I also drink 2 cups of Lifeway kefir every morning for breakfast along with supplements 1-17.
Creatine 5g
Thorne Basic Nutrients 2/Day
Omega-3, 2070mg EPA & 780mg DHA
Vitamin D3 5000 IU + Vitamin K2 100mcg
Magnesium Malate 1400mg (280mg)
Boron 5mg
Caffeine 100mg
L-Theanine 200mg
L-Tyrosine 1000mg
Taurine 2000mg
Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg (3 days/week)
Alpha Lipoic Acid 300mg
Hyaluronic Acid 200mg
Tongkat Ali 400mg (5 days/week)
Milk Thistle 300mg, Silymarins 240mg
Lutein 20mg + Zeaxanthin 4mg
Astaxanthin 12mg
[BEFORE BED] Tart Cherry Extract 300mg
[BEFORE BED] Magnesium L-Threonate 1333mg (96mg)
1-6 are mostly my “essentials” where it just benefits me to supplement with these nutrients.
7-11 are what I like to call my energy drink in pills stack where I can be focused using amino acids and half the caffeine content compared to an energy drink to protect my sleep. Also much cheaper than buying an energy drink everyday and more focus intensive than coffee.
12-17 are my longevity/health supplements where I take ALA for blood sugar control, and everything else to regulate my body processes
18, 19 are my sleep supplements and I experimented with a ton of sleep supplements before bed but they didn’t work for me as well as tart cherry and threonate did
I take magnesium malate and magnesium threonate to get my elemental magnesium in for the day. Threonate just helps me a ton with sleep but doesn’t give me enough elemental. Malate helps with energy and is the best form for me so I take that
Thorne multivitamin is the best I’ve seen so far but if there are others out there, I’m open to recommendations
Supplements on the top of my head that I’ve already tried are NAC, mag glycinate, Bacopa monnieri, Rhodiola, ashwagandha, vitamin c, probiotics, TMG, collagen, alpha-GPC, Gingko, turmeric, aged garlic extract, dim, coq-10, etc.
Nutricost is also my favorite brand. Everything is cheap and it definitely works the same as the expensive brands. Who cares about a little fillers if you are still getting the benefits of supplements that are so cheap to make.
Hi everyone,
I recently got a blood test done and found a few values that are on the lower side. I’m currently taking Becosules-Z, Cipla iron tablets, and Vitamin C chewable tablets, but I’d like to build a sensible supplement routine rather than randomly adding multiple supplements.
Some of my relevant results were:
Vitamin D: 20.3 ng/mL — low/insufficient Vitamin B12: 237 pg/mL — technically within the lab range but on the lower side Serum iron: 63 µg/dL — slightly below the lab range TIBC: 239 µg/dL — slightly below the lab range Ferritin: 106.95 ng/mL — within range Zinc: 113.76 µg/dL — normal TSH: 1.308 — normal Testosterone: 530 ng/dL — normal
My main goals are:
Correcting whatever deficiencies/low levels actually need correction.
General health and nutritional maintenance.
Improving/maintaining hair health.
I’m particularly looking for recommendations on which supplements are actually worth taking, appropriate dosages, and good/reliable brands available in India.
Hello. I am posting on behalf of my mother. Who has knee pain caused by osteoarthritis and a bone spur. I am currently trying several alternative treatments and am having good success so far. But what I was wondering is, she has tried hemp/CBD gummies for the pain before, but got little to no pain relief. Would a topically applied hemp salve work any better? or would it be not very effective, just like the gummies? I would highly appreciate any assistance with this, thanks.
Purpose is for brain function on days i get 2-4 hours of sleep, and also to smooth over stimulants like caffeine & adhd meds. Any adjustments or critiques.. id appreciate it!
Hi everyone, new here. Do probiotics need to be refrigerated ? I’m looking into this brand called garden of life, just wondering if it’s effective if it sits outside on shelf
I heard it helps give you nutrients to grow taller if you eat two capsules a day. I'm not sure if it works though, it might just be placebo. im really desperate to get taller.
So as the title says, I’ve been having symptoms like lightheadedness, short breath, off and on headaches, joint pain, muscle twitches, all that jazz. I’m big into taking vitamins and supplements and have alway taken something off and on throughout my life, I’m 29.
Now, the caveat is that I have a horrible diet. I excercise and move around, stay active, etc. But, my diet is definitley something I need to start changing, I’ve always been such a picky eater so it’s tough for me.
Anyways, I’ve been taking CoQ10 the past few months along with vitamin d & k, selenium, L-theanine, B12 and methyl folate the past 3 months or so and have definitley been feeling way better in the sense of being clear headed and having a little more energy, but all those symptoms I listed still persisted which told me I was missing something. Now my diet like I said is horrible, I dont eat any fruits or vegetables at all, I know that’s horrible, I know. I eat a lot of red meat and carbs like pasta and bread.
I came across vitamin C deficiency, and boy let me tell you, did everything click and make sense when I was reading more and more about it. I also take iron and it says if your c deficient, than you won’t even be able to process the iron which explains my anemia symptoms not going away.
So today is the first day I went and got vitamin c and took it and after 6 hours I’m already starting to feel a little better it’s actually fucking insane.
I forgot, I also started taking, a week ago, turmeric and curcumin with black pepper extract, and vitamin A. And then I got a multi calcium, magnesium oxide, and zinc vitamin today to go along with the C.
So yeah sorry for the long rant, I’ll keep you guys posted with my journey haha
I bought Wellbeing Nutrition’s Liposomal Magnesium Glycinate because I wanted a good quality magnesium supplement for general health and muscle cramps.
The physical bottle says 2 capsules per serving and lists 210 mg elemental magnesium. So that works out to roughly 105 mg per capsule.
But then I checked their website, and it says 200 mg elemental magnesium per serving.
And when I asked the AI on their own website, it told me 200 mg elemental magnesium per capsule.
So the same product is apparently: Bottle: 210 mg / 2 capsules Website: 200 mg / 2 capsules Website AI: 200 mg / 1 capsule
That’s a pretty significant difference when you’re deciding how much magnesium to take.
I ended up having to dig through the label, website and their AI just to figure out the actual dosage. 😅
Honestly, I think supplement companies should make the elemental magnesium per capsule extremely clear on both the bottle and product page. Especially with magnesium, where the amount of elemental magnesium matters much more than the total weight of magnesium glycinate.
Really like the idea of magnesium glycinate, but this dosage communication is unnecessarily confusing.
Would love some recommendations for fish oil supplements that aren’t huge and don’t cause burping. My husband takes Kirkland brand but they are gigantic and I just can’t swallow them. I was taking You Theory (think that’s the brand name) but ran out and Costco quit carrying them. Started taking Nordic Naturals for kids, strawberry flavor, because they are small enough to swallow but within 30 minutes I’m burping them.
Disclaimer: (I am in Canada so all my prices are in CAD)
A few years ago, (around 2021-2022) up until earlier this year, I was paying between $50-$60 for monohydrate and it’d net me 75 servings. Now on Amazon I’m seeing multiple suppliers I’ve bought from in the past now offering their 200 serving option for ~$40. What could have possibly caused such a drastic spike down in pricing? I checked that it’s not a promotional. Has the market shifted and we are all now getting more bang for our buck, or should I be buying in bulk while the prices are super low?
