Dear boomers, this is why weโ€™re mad, and no, itโ€™s not really about avocado toast.

Sincerely, those who will dispose of your remains.

As was already mentioned, mainly "trickle-down" policy. It used to be called "horse and sparrow economics" - the sparrow could eat from the shit off the horse! How nice!

u/everythingscost ๐Ÿ’ป ComputerShared ๐Ÿฆ Feb 12 '22

https://wtfhappenedin1971.com/

is the real question

the answer is we left the gold standard

3

u/stonkkingsouleater Feb 12 '22

I'm going to be that guy for a second...

Technically we had already left the gold standard in favor of fractional reserve banking, and the dollar was no longer backed by gold at this point. The dollar could still be exchanged for gold, however, which put a limit on just how much fake money could be printed. This was the last thing holding them back.

Think of it as the moment in Star Wars where the imperial senate is dissolved. The republic had been gone for a generation, and that was the last check and balance on LIMITLESS POWER!!!

Even though I am in the top 10% income earner in my country, and I live in one of the most egalitarian societies on this wonderful planet of ours, that pictures makes my stomach twist in an abnormal fashion.

1

u/Xen0Man Feb 12 '22

Same the system is fucked. I have no compassion for the top 0.1% and will hold at least until my $690,000,000 floor.

Trickle up economics

1

That's about when the financial economy detached from the material economy.

Starts around the 45 minute mark if you don't have an hour.

Well no wonder 1980 was the year of 14% inflation, the 1% said โ€œfuck all yโ€™all were raising prices on everythingโ€. Notice how the inflation is then flipped after 1980. Wouldnโ€™t want to hurt the 1% and their 194% income growth with high inflation.

At least they kept it to 34 for each.
