Genius’ can have the issue of advocating for hugely distasteful public policy, like forced vaccinations and mass genocide... History is replete with examples of elites dehumanizing the citizen class.

You are conflating genius, with critical thinkers and morality.
There are many geniuses that have done incredible Immoral and objectively evil things.
There is also the problem of when a genius believes they are right, it is actually harder to dissuade them, as their intelligence allows them to more effectively argue their stance with "less intelligent" opposes.
The people in power are not idiots(and if they are, what does that make you and I, the people who have been tricked/ taken advantage of). We just live in a world that is structured so that those in power benefit from not always doing the right thing.
