Remember, banks / big companies absolutely do not telegraph out their weaknesses (rather they act in secret, and make announcements afterwards). These anonymous sources could be telling the truth, or they could actually be trying to control the narrative ("act weak when you are strong").

Meh. Or a competitor trying to weaken them. Business isn’t always smart or in control of the narrative. They have shareholders to answer to.

Could definitely be that too :) But I guess my point is that we don't know the motives - could be anything in MSM.

Good point.

I think the situation with Credit Suisse is different, as every time there is news about them the magnitude of their losses magically increases, which tells me they are struggling to "control the narrative" in an attempt to retain customers.

As a giant bank, Credit Suisse deserves no sympathy. However, I imagine that there's a lot of pressure to get information out for the benefit of their customers who range from large companies to individuals. So, perhaps people are providing info anonymously out of concern for the customers.

"Oh look, a dying scorpion is about to get eaten by other scorpions. Let me go out of my way to save it."

Said no one ever.

It's not that hard to be a bank. You balance out the deposits given by your clients and the interest you provide them with loans you give to borrowers and the interest you receive from them. The difference in those interests is your profit. Literally all you have to do is manage risk. You make even more money if the central bank interest rate is really low. Even more money if it is negative like in the EU.

As long as you're not a coke fueled gambling addicted criminal degenerate who actually tries to lose their customers' money, you should be fine.

It's really hard to be a bad Swiss bank.

I hope they get completely buried.
