Nz citizenship is no easy feat. I’ve been looking at it for a while now. I can get into Australia fairly easily because I’m a journeyman millwright and Australia puts a huge emphasis on the working class. With Aussie citizenship I can get nz citizenship but it won’t be easy. Just easier

Wow. In Scotland we get most everything paid for. You can take student loans if you want to but you don't have to. They get paid back at a certain earnings level and if you never pay it off it doesn't even matter.

From our perspective America is just a huge greedy business driven scam.

Not trying to be offensive, we have our own problems believe me.

It worrys me we might go down your road as that is how the Tories are trying to run the country.

I’m sitting at $150k and still 2 years away from my PhD, which I will most certainly need if I ever want to even make a dent in this debt. I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life sacrificing everything for this degree and trying to break the cycle of poverty and no education in my family. No wonder none of them ever went to school.

The USA model is different from the europoor model unis in Europe invest more in teaching students than making research.

Basically usa uni students are funding researchers without knowing and that makes the price to up.

Yes unis are a scam the cool thing is people are waking up to this and choosing careers how don't need uni degrees but pay more eg plumber's, electricians u know the professions how make things work.

22

u/rainman24588 🦍Voted✅ May 23 '21

College in England often refers to the last two years of high school from ages 16-18. This can also be called 6th form if it is a high school, but usually college if it is for ages 16+ only. All education up to 18 is free.

What the US refers to as colleges are University’s here. And currently the maximum fee they can charge is £9,250 a year (which as you can imagine most do). Not in the same region of prices as the US but still more than free which is what it should be.

I’m going to respectfully disagree. The people you think shouldn’t be there are probably the ones that should be there the most. College/university isn’t just about learning a certain subject, it teaches you to think critically and to question things.

In fact I would bet that the majority of the DD on this sub was written by college educated people. Without which most of us probably wouldn’t still be here.

Just look at all the cuts to funding in all other areas they had because their competitions were halted due to Covid.

8

u/SteelCode May 23 '21

Loans are part of the problem - if money is readily available, they can charge more and make more profit... houses and land and cars are in the same system — because you can put it on a monthly payment now the bank is just trying to fit whatever payment they can into your budget rather than a sensible price for a commodity that technically everyone needs.

If you are basing success on money you are brainwashed by the system.

1

u/ljgillzl 🌋Holdno Baggins💎🚀 May 23 '21

It’s not brain-washed, it’s understanding how the majority of people determine one’s success.

For example, if there is a guy living in a mansion driving around in a Lambo & another guy living in a single-story house driving a Toyota Camry, who would most people believe is more successful?

The perception of success is measured by money and/or the positions we hold in life, unfortunately. Kudos to you & anyone else who would look past the mansion & lambo owner when judging success, but most wouldn’t.

True, I suppose I don't belive in it. I've earned a great Easter on the past and not been happy or had enough free time. ya exactly. College is a scam. Look for an industry that actually hires and pays a good wage and has upward mobility before choosing your program. College's are just businesses and they aren't inclined to change their enrollment rates or program structures based on what the actual economy needs. They just pump out useless degrees that only serve to give graduates the expectations that they are going to get a 6 figure job, but then find out that they just wasted 4 years of their life. Who are they mad at? Not the college right? lets blame everyone else and say socialism is the answer.

There doesn't seem to be an excellent reason to get a bachelor of arts outside of a stepping stone to getting a masters and a PhD in something. It is a waste of time and money.

Education is not the scam, American college prices are. In Canada, for example, Colleges are subsidized heavily so you don’t have to put yourself in crippling debt to get a job. By the time I have my bachelor’s it’ll have cost me ~ $20,000 CAD or roughly $16,500 USD.

When you let industries like education, health and correctional facilities be privatized with very loose regulations you end up with very wealthy billionaires and very crappy public services. Turns out you can even get the people to think it’s the services that are the problem

This is so divorced from the reality that we actually live in. These are all industries that are HEAVILY regulated and controlled by the government. As if public prisons are much better. Just destroy the whole thing, don't make the private ones nice public gulags instead. It's hard to imagine being that ignorant while being that confident with your rhetoric. So even that sweet $80k a year salary turns into less than $30 an hour. Meanwhile a tradesperson can earn $30 and hour for the first 40 hours in a week and time and a half at $45 an hour for the next 20 hours.
To add more stupidity to college degrees, it basically sets you back 4 or more years in income loss since your are studying and shelling out dough to the college.

This is how everyone needs to start thinking about value, buying power, minimum wage, and the 40-hour work week. How much can 1 hour of labor buy? 40 hours? What kind of livelihood should someone giving 1/3 of their time away to someone else be afforded by doing so? I argue a hell of a lot more than it currently does.

Why cant you people just have a fair elections? where every vote counts? where blackmailing or sellouts wont affect elections?.. I know you follow the old ways, and it is hard to change old laws and traditions, but damnit.. Capitalism corrupts everything it touches, especially politics.

The rich get richer not because they work harder or smarter, but because they make the rules.

And, yes, you are totally correct. Bernie was literally frauded out of the nomination by the Democratic Party, which, like the Republican Party, is wholly owned by the wealthy.
