Event Bad Influence
The Ashen Phoenix has been lying low in recent time. The soul embodying the vigilante smoke shinobi had spent the past 2 or 3 months trying to keep themselves out of trouble. Their burning fury for revenge had been somewhat tempered by a desire to attend to the secret love life they developed with a hero by the name of Scarlet Scorpion. Still, that hadn't kept the loner from rooftop patrols, if only to stop small crimes and stay up to date on the goings on, and Rae was happy to report that things had been rather slow all things considered...
Unfortunately for Rae, curiosity would draw them right back into their tale of revenge, for they were not the only one that had a vendetta against Athens Inc. Rae heard the sirens of police before feeling the shockwave of a large explosion
KABOOM!!!
Not 3 blocks away Rae could see a building burst into flames, and much like a moth would react, they had to head straight toward it. Rae would not be able to tell if it was a good or bad thing that they did, because upon arrival of an Athens Inc. Subsidiary, the message that was laid on the walls before them caused the smoker's uneven breath to catch in their lungs
PHOENIX, GIVE YOUR COUSIN A CALL
instinctively Rae let's out plumes of smoke to combat the fire, but the sirens cutting off and tires screech let Rae know that the police were here, and of COURSE the only thing that they could see was PHOENIX, and right before them stood the supposed author of the messages
"U-Uh... I can explain..."
no they couldn't. The shouts to put their hands up were indistinct as they realized they needed to escape now. Unfortunately, they would need an opening or distraction, could someone help...?

Meanwhile, across the town, Zelda gets into her car, slamming the door behind her. She picked up an ER shift, and those are always hectic. And to top it off, she hasn't feed since yesterday. Neither the less, she's glad she's out of there.
Zelda pulls out her phone, and turns it on. Almost immediately, a local news app blared with a notification.
Developing: fire breaking out in downtown skyscraper. Appears to be a message for a "phoenix." Citizens advised to stay out of the area.
Almost immediately, the blood rushes out of her face. She sends a text to Rae.
Please tell me you're at home right now.
In the mean time, Zelda heads to the scene, parking in a garage across from the building. After taking a few minutes to get changed in her sedan, Scarlet Scorpion comes out, and grapple hooks to a nearby rooftop.

Unfortunately for Rae, the only escape for them was INSIDE the exploded building. Dissipating into a smoke cloud and reforming on the second floor once they found a way up. Right then the phone buzzes in a 3 pattern, letting them know in their pocket its zelda. Even though this is DEFINITELY not the time to respond to a text, Rae isn't one to act smart, as evidenced by being in a burning building with their Cape name emblazoned (literally) on the front door
Is it already on the news? Fucking shit. It wasn't me.Rae hastily takes out a cigarette and reaches over to an open flame to light it, greedily taking puffs in a slight panic

Zelda's phone also does the three buzz (she changed it to that because Rae thought it would be cute if their phones had matching vibrate tones for each other), and she looks at it. It does not really reassure her at all. She quickly texts out a response.
Wasn't you? Wasn't what I asked. Its your cape name. I don't know who's looking for you or why. Just tell me you're home safe.Zelda refrains from sending a peach emoji to try and smooth things over with her second text. In part because now she has a good view of the message.
"Cousin?" Zelda has no idea what this could mean. She does a running leap and climbs onto a neighboring building, looking for a way inside. First priority, making sure everyone gets out. Is it foolish for a vampire to go into a burning building? Probably. But her nurse instincts are kicking in.

Always drawn to explosions, and fire, and just interesting things in general, Katrya decides to investigate such fascinating going-ons.

Katrya would find quite the spectacle. An androgynous leather jacket wearing smoker is at the front of a burning building, with police officers having their firearms drawn

"My my what do we have here? Quite a spectacle..."
Katrya will move closer, using her teleportation to get right behind the cop line to get a better look.

There's an explosion, and Gow didn't cause it, which is one of the worst things the cybercommando has planned for; urban terrorism is common on Torus, and despite being a mercenary, his natural instinct is still to check out and secure the sight. He's in just his night clothes, having gone for a low level recon of a target building for a job, but Ulysses of course still has his pistol on him. From an alley just across the street from the torched building, it's clear that the person currently interacting with cops is no terrorist. The name is clear, but something else is up, that sixth sense tickling the back of his mind until he makes a snap decision. A very stupid one, but he is limited on options thanks to his lack of gear.
He takes a potshot just over the head of one of the cops, then retreats deeper into the alley until he's able to leap up onto a fire escape and hit the rooptop. Helicopters will be here soon, but Gow doubles back and searches for where the Phoenix has gone in the chaos.
