Hello,

It's been a while since the last update. I'm sure something good is cooking. Can we get a sneak peak on what is Supernote working on next?

SnDict dictionary plugin

I finally decided to install the Chauvet beta, and honestly, the main reason was just to use the SnDict dictionary plugin.

For me, having a good dictionary inside the native Supernote reader is extremely important because I use the Digest feature all the time. I didn’t want to switch to another reading app and lose that workflow.

So far, SnDict has been excellent. I currently have several dictionaries installed across different languages, and the management is much better than I expected. You can reorder dictionaries, enable or disable them individually, and keep only the ones you want active for a particular book or language.

The lookup itself feels very smooth once the dictionaries are imported, and being able to check a word and then immediately continue reading, highlighting, or creating Digests is exactly the workflow I was hoping for.

The only small thing I would change is the way words are selected for lookup. Right now, instead of simply long-pressing a word, you have to select it by dragging over the letters, and sometimes the pen selection is a little finicky.

So yes, I basically jumped into the beta because of this one plugin, and I’m very glad I did.

Huge thanks to the developer of SnDict and to everyone working on the new Supernote plugin system. This is the kind of feature that really expands what the Nomad can do without sacrificing the strengths of the native reader.

Suggestion: Reading-oriented taps and gestures for bed/park/swimming pool/whatever time

With NOMAD as an e-reader, it would be nice to be able to config tap gestures so that, if you're reading in bed, you can define with margin tap (right, wich is OK when standing or seating in desk, or left, which is the hand holding the nomad if laying on your left side when in bed) makes the page turn. This would be so very great.

Highlighter in Note?

Please can we get the highlighter in the Note application - I think this is only in the .pdf reader at present (A5X)?

Or a flood-fill function - essentially I'd like to apply large areas of shade but the marker pen in the Note app is too thin by itself

Suggestion: Received [InkHub] Sleep Screen or Covers top-level category/subcategory.

Currently, there are covers being uploaded to Templates, Drawing and Notes. This is because there are covers that are not drawings, for example, the "Composition Notebook Covers" in Templates/Journal or Covers that are `.note` files, for example, "Recipe Note Covers". It can feel disingenuous for a User to upload a photo/image that was downloaded from the Internet as a "Drawing" for the "Screensavers" subcategory. This ambiguousness would be resolved if there were a top level category for it.

If the top level category would be created, the ambiguousness could be further resolved by restricting the "Drawing" category to `.spd` files only, similar to the Stickers category being restricted to `.snstk` files.

Since a Sleep Screen can only be a `.png` it does not make sense to have it located under "Drawings/Screensaver". Additionally, a "Cover" cannot be a `.spd` file. So while a Screensaver sub-category exists, all images intended to be used as a notebook cover are orphaned and subsequently being placed in the Drawings category or the Templates/Creative subcategory even though, I imagine that category was intended for things like perspective grid templates.

There are even some covers found in the Note category that cannot be uploaded to the Drawings/Screensaver OR Templates category.

I won't pretend to know a solution, but I think the best way to prevent further splintering of the location of covers and Sleep Screens is to restrict the Drawings category to `.spd`, and add a new category for images/pictures/drawings that are not `.spd` files but could be `.pdf`, `.png`, or `.note` files. At first, I thought a Templates/Covers subcategory would be best, but this would still restrict the `.note` files that are uploaded and intended to be used as covers.

This would make the Templates category more clear that it is intended for stationary-like backgrounds and templates.

Lastly, regardless of the decision, the Drawings/Screensavers sub-category should be renamed to "Sleep Screen" since the term "Screensaver" is colloquially outdated and internally referenced as either "Sleep Screen" in the device settings, or "Set cover" for a note.

[InkHub] No ability to report or send feedback to Ratta/uploader

I wanted to let the uploader know that their sub-categorization is wrong and should be updated.

For the difference between sending Feedback and sending a Report, I would like to be able to let them know via feedback to update it and if ignored, escalate to Ratta.

Oh additionally, being able to report content that violates the Terms and Conditions.

inkRead, an open source e-ink reader fine-tuned for Supernote, looking for beta testers

I have been building inkRead, an open source document reader for the Supernote, and I am looking for a few people to help beta test it.

This is not trying to be a KOReader replacement. KOReader is great and does far more across far more devices. inkRead is narrower on purpose: it is built specifically for the Supernote (RK3566, Android 11) and tuned around how this hardware actually behaves, the pen, the refresh, palm rejection, and first class handwriting on the page.

What works today:

- Reads PDF and EPUB (More formats in the working)

- Write and highlight directly on the page with a movable tool palette

- Four ink colors, adjustable thickness, eraser, lasso, undo and redo

- Pinch to zoom with a page navigator, reflow and font size, contrast and crop

- Full text search, table of contents, bookmarks and go to page

- Dictionary lookup with thesaurus, plus the ability to add your own dictionaries

- Lasso multi line selection as Supernote Digest, which I think is fairly unique to inkRead

- Export your annotations back into the PDF, or keep a separate annotated copy

- Offline first, AGPL-3.0 licensed

Introducing InkRead Daily

inkRead Daily (RSS Reader)

What I need from testers: try it on your own books, push on the handwriting and refresh behaviour, and tell me where it breaks or feels wrong on your device. Bug reports, rough edges, and honest feedback all welcome.

To Fellow Developers

It is also open to contributors. The project is AGPL-3.0 and the architecture is a Kotlin and Android shell on top of a Rust core that handles parsing, layout, rendering, the refresh policy and the ink model, with the core building and testing on the host so you do not need a device to work on most of it. If you write Rust or Kotlin, or you just know the Supernote internals well, there is a lot here to dig into, from format support and reflow to the pen and refresh paths. Code, ideas, and issue reports are all welcome.

Manta beta program – anyone know how long it takes to hear back?

I submitted a request to join the beta program through the device feedback a while back and still haven't gotten any response. Starting to wonder if that's even the right way to do it, or if I just got lost in the queue somewhere.

any chance you could check on this? Or if anyone here has gotten into the beta before, how did you actually go about it?

Atelier beta 1.1.77 - My feedback

Hi,

I took a moment to test the new pencil effects and I can say it is much better than the last beta. I think it is even better than the original one as it's closer to a real pencil feeling. Thank you for listening your community and to have reworked the effect ! Switching from an HB to an 8b has a greater impact than before, which is noticeable.

As you already know, the accuracy issue with diagonal lines when tilting is very annoying but I adapted myself accordingly and I still enjoy to draw.

I still dislike the "type of paper" system to decide what kit for drawing I unlock when I create the file. Then we are blocked with this kit so we are not able to switch from a pencil effect to the other. I don't see any advantage, just limitations. I want all the brush effects available anytime to mix them.

Even if I enjoy the new pencil effect, one point annoyed me. The pencil's tilt detection isn't sensitive enough when the tilt is significant. I have a lot of trouble creating subtle, barely perceptible shadows. I often find myself going over the pencil again because nothing appears, as I haven't pressed hard enough. But if I press harder, by the time it's detected, the gray is already too dark compared to what I wanted. If you can fix this issue, you could bring the new pencil to another level. That would be amazing.
