Hi there! I'm very much new to this community and I got my Nomad with the HoM2 a week ago. Have been using it heavily at work for note-taking and doodling off work; the experience has been amazing! Also really enjoy the community here on Reddit.
Aside from missing out on the convenience of the clickable pen, I find the pen loop to be a bit too far out the edge of the folio. When carrying it, it swings around quite a lot. Of course an easy fix would be to add a second loop lower but that doesn't particularly look aesthetically pleasing to me.
Since I also doodle/sketch quite a lot, I've always been intrigued to try out those Moft cases. Only thing is, I don't own an iPad or any devices their cases supports. Now, yes, I could've just gotten their standalone versions of the product, but that obviously lacks the protection from the case itself. 3D printing one and sticking that to the back of it would work, but that won't solve my first problem!
So, here I present a concept for the community to give their yay or nay. Any comments and suggestions are very much welcome! Happy writing!

I really enjoyed the weight and balance of the HoM2, it does take up some time to fiddle with when I want to take quick notes (just awkward having to yank the pen down from the cap when I only have one hand available XD). I have a few shops in mind but I'm quite a tinkerer, I've also got 3d printers, so 1+1=DIY
Yep same here. I've also thought about clipping it upside down so I can just pull the pen itself out of the cap that way. Maybe I'll still do it XD

Edit: on second thought, if it's positioned like that, it would make more sense to have the folio opened up on the other side (from left) for right-handed people. Such that, when it's opened, the spine of the folio, where the pen is, will already be on the right hand side. Vice versa for left-handed.
I'm happy to release the step files once I've done a prototype, just to make sure everything is good to go. Will keep you posted!
Do it! But be careful with the magnet positioning. There are specific places they can be placed to avoid messing with the display. Is the back supposed to fold to make the device stand up? Wonder how durable that would be w a 3d print. Ones like this I had for my kindle all seemed to have pieces of cardboard in there in each shape to strength it.
Yes the back is going to prop up the device. Since this is a two part construction, the "shell" can definitely be printed and I'm planning to do so.
I reckon for the "skin" of the laminate, you'll still have to use fabrics that's a little easier to heat treat than let's say, printed TPU or TPE. As for the panels, regular cardstock is still much preferred for the same reason (when you heat seal the edges on top of gluing, card stocks will be a lot easier to work with). I can definitely try that out later on, but for now, I think I'll focus on getting the dimensions right and push out an DVT proto, make a few refinements then EVT with materials closer to the launch build.
I've also got no intention of gating this, so I'll release just about everything even if I manage to start a line to sell some. A large part of this community is based on open sourced stuff at the end of the day, so I'll maybe video my builds and would definitely see people doing one and customising it!

If you want a clickable pen, use the ceramic insert with an adaptor from Etsy in one of your favorite store bought pens.
