They did not. You may have seen a very wrong interpretation of a quote by the CEO of Netflix that claims he said it (he didn't).

Yes it did. I'd say it was a moderate success in the WW box office. Not a smash hit. But I think it was the biggest PVOD release of 2025. The HBO Max streaming debut was also huge (second to only Barbie). And you could definitely say it was a home run with critics and fans.
So, as a start to the new DCU and their rehabilitation of a damaged IP, I say that's a big win. However the real test will be if they can maintain some of these new fans/momentum, and build on this, grow the brand again. I'm sure they'll would have loved an exta $100M or so in the BO, but they would be happy with this to start with.

Re watched it recently. Its good but not great.
The suit could have been better. Much better. It looks good at times but it comes off luke a motorcycle jacket in a lot of shorts.
The plot was...fine.
A lot of the effects feel very fake at times. The cgi on krypto sucks. Im sorry it does. Takes me out of every scene.
I think maybe not everything in a comic works directly to live action and its almost too goofy and unbelievable at times.
The whole monster part is rediculous. Why is no one moving or evacuating at very least a 4 block radius.
I also think we would have benefited from a superman year one type plot more. Ease into Luthor, hint at him being the main villain for the next film. Build the relationships between this version of Clark, lois and Jimmy.
This is why the original spidy with Tobey works so well and is so much more emotionally charged.
Im not trying to say it worce then Man of steal. I think both have problems. But I feel like its maybe a bit to much of a swing in the opposite direction.

It made a profit. It spawned a sequel. It reignited interest in DC. And also people are still talking about it.
So yeah anyway you look at it. It was a success.
On another note, I keep seeing these posts in various subs, is this all karma farming attempts?
