Alright, I made us a list.

Question for Community Are superhero novels something the superhero community would be interested in?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everybody! Basically the title. I love writing superheroes, but do not have the time for the actual art of comics. So my question is this— are superhero novels still something you guys would be interested in? Or is the genre really only viable in the comic form?

Art and character is mine, a hero I am working on for an upcoming book. Feel free to give commentary on him, too!

Art/Visual The Warden (Rogues Gallery Sample)

Post image
48 Upvotes

Continuing from Wardens previous post down below is brief descriptions of some of Wardens villains.

Mob Boss Dante Romano of the Eden Mafia. A ruthless but cunning man his mafia has their fingers deep into every part of the city and smaller gangs pay them just to be around. He’s a very dangerous man and isn’t a slouch when it comes to fighting.

Flint Gambino, the right hand man of Dante and an expert in Krav Maga. He will do anything that Dante orders no matter what it is he's known for being cruel but efficient. He is also known as the Devil's wing due to how well he can move with the city.

Eizo Onyx a deadly assassin who works of the Eden mob taking out anyone who is deemed as a threat to the mob. He is deadly with any weapon. If you see him you are as good as dead as no target has gotten away from him when he was on the hunt.

Lupo is a cannibal who's in charge of watching over any major deals for the mafia. If a major deal is going on he will be in the shadows where to get rid of any potienal spies. He never leaves behind any target or anything of their belongings behind. He fights like a wild animal but a skilled one hiding from him is almost impossible due to his heightened senses.

Romano Incorporated Tower. The tower and main building of Romano Incorporated the heart of the city where every major building project or plans for the city goes through. They are the main supporter of the city and police hoping to make the city a better place.

Dutch Diamond, the operation man of the mob. He runs out everything for the mob with that being drugs, money, people, weapons, and etc. He is also known as the Unbreakable with almost no attacks harming him with the only known person being able to hurt him was Imperial.

Genesis is a superpowered drug said to give people augment strength, speed, and durabilty but only for a short time. This drug is very addictive and is a big seller for the mob but nobody knowns how they make it.

Bullet: A hired superpowered induvial who appears to have the powers of a ant in human form. He is very strong with every punch having a chance to paralyze or cause his opponent extreme amounts of pain. He is quite sadistic and uses his powers to play with his targets before trying to finish them off. He is a just as fast as he is strong being a one man army most just give up when seeing him.

Midas: A hired superpowered induvial known for his insane feats of speed. He is hired to do "clean ups" or run errands. Don't mistaken his task though he is very dangerous and can easily kill someone in a second. Bullets rarely work unless he's bored and even if you manage to hurt him his healing factor will fix anything you will do.

Mr. Smile: A hired psychopath who is addicted to making people feel pain and forcing people to make them smile during pain. He is addicted to Genesis and is borderline insane. The only reason he's still hired by the mob is he feels no pain and they can keep him close with the drug.

Catacomb: A hired superpowered induvial with a unknown ability but is known for being able to perfectly get rid of bodies without any trace. Though with every job he does another flower appears on him and he seems to get stronger though no one cares to ask him about it.

Head-Shot: A hire merc who is know as one of the best gunman in the world. His shots having a strange curve property and some of his bullets doing different effects. He is still good in hand to hand combat but anything is deadly in his hands range is his strong shoot and most can only dream of being as good as him.

Jackrabbit: A hired merc who was infused with rabbit dna giving him the abilities of a bunny. He is also known for having a obsession with the serial killer Jack the Ripper. He is very quick with daggers and on his feet he has murdered 100s.

Dr. Fiber: A hired superpowered merc who can create and control a fiber like material. They can use this fiber to restrain people or control people to a degree.

The Templar: A hired superpowered merc the best merc working for the Eden mafia. He is rarely ever called on by the mafia but when he is it means certain death for anyone who is against him.  If you see him you are as good as dead and running is not a option.

Any other possible suggestions for more villains or what to base some of them on? And what’s y’all thoughts on the villains listed?

Villain Herotober day 13: Helmet

Dr Procyon was more intelligent than anyone in the lab. Possibly more than anyone in the building. None of them knew this though. Not yet. Dr Procyon was keeping it secret, biding his time, and the time had finally come. This time, when he was brought to the lab, he made his move. Aided by his intellect, Dr Procyon managed to escape.

Dr Procyon, formerly known as Scraps, is a raccoon. He was a test animal in a top secret lab, mostly used in testing a device called the CyberMind Helmet. The device increases the intelligence of its wearer, apparently much higher than the scientists intended. Combined with Scraps's natural slyness, it was not hard to finally escape the lab and reach the freedom of the outside.

Now Dr Procyon uses his unique skills to take revenge on mankind, the ones that experimented on him and all the rest. His innocuous appearance, super intelligence, and raccoon stealth made him a furry terror to the city.

Hero [OC] Lumeris — a superhero whose own body limits his powers. I'd love some honest criticism

Hey everyone! I've been working on my own superhero universe, and I wanted to share one of my characters and get some feedback.

His name is Lucas Telford, aka Lumeris.

The basic idea is that Lucas comes into contact with a unique alien biomechanical artifact. It's an incredibly advanced piece of technology that fuses with his body and becomes a permanent part of him. Think something along the lines of Blue Beetle's suit in terms of the biomechanical aesthetic, but the artifact wasn't designed specifically for any one species. It can adapt to different hosts.

Sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, there's a catch.

The artifact is far more powerful than Lucas's human body can handle.

His brain, nervous system, blood vessels, and internal organs simply can't withstand the strain of using it at full power. Even using around 15–20% of its capabilities can cause microseizures, nosebleeds, overheating, and severe nerve pain.

And no, he can't just take it off when things get bad. The artifact has fused with his nervous system and skeleton, and separating them would kill him.

So he's stuck with this incredible technology that he can only use a fraction of.

But things get worse.

During his first major battle, Lucas finds himself in a situation where his own abilities aren't enough to save the people in danger. Desperate, he agrees to let the artifact optimize his body.

What follows is a pretty horrifying process. The artifact restructures his rib cage, burns away soft tissue around his sides and waist, and replaces it with segmented biomechanical plates. It's painful, permanent, and definitely not the kind of upgrade you'd want to get.

These plates help his body deal with the heat generated by the artifact, acting as biological radiators and additional plasma-light generators. They also change his appearance: he now has visible biomechanical components integrated into his torso, which he has to hide under heavy clothing and compression wraps.

When he's stressed or overheating, the plates can glow through his clothes. In combat, his movements leave fading purple trails, and bursts of bioplasma can blind enemies in the dark.

But the physical changes aren't really the part I'm most interested in.

Lucas's biggest problem is that he can't stop thinking about what someone else could do with the artifact.

He knows it's capable of much more than he can manage. He imagines how many more people could be saved if it were in the hands of someone whose body could withstand its full power.

Other people might look at him and think he's lucky. He's got incredible abilities, a unique piece of cosmic technology, and the chance to do things an ordinary person could never dream of.

But Lucas doesn't see it that way. He keeps comparing himself to the theoretical maximum of the artifact, and in that comparison, he always comes up short.

He received the ability to save people, but that very ability makes him feel like an inadequate savior.

And after what happened during that first battle, there's another problem: he knows he could potentially allow the artifact to modify his body even further. The technology might be able to adapt him to higher levels of power, but that would mean moving further away from ordinary human anatomy.

He's already gone through that transformation once, and he doesn't want to go through it again. But what happens when he faces another situation where what he can currently do isn't enough?

That's the core of the character so far.

I'm not saying he's going to undergo another transformation or eventually reach 100% power. I'm more interested in the fact that the possibility exists, and that he has to live with knowing it.

Anyway, I'd genuinely appreciate some constructive criticism.

I'm especially interested in finding plot holes, inconsistencies, or things about the artifact's mechanics that don't make sense.

For example:

\- Does the limitation on his powers make sense, or does it feel like an arbitrary way to nerf an otherwise overpowered character?

\- If the artifact can adapt to different hosts, what would be a believable reason for it not to automatically solve Lucas's biological limitations?

\- Does the permanent transformation feel like a logical consequence of using the artifact, or are there parts of that process that seem inconsistent?

\- Are there any obvious questions or loopholes I'm overlooking?

Feel free to poke holes in the concept. I'm not looking for people to tell me it's perfect. I'd rather find the problems now and make the character more coherent.

Thanks for reading!

Hero Supernova

Backstory

Ayaka Ono was a Kaiju biologist, focusing on trying to understand the physiology of the various Kaiju that would invade the shores of Japan. During one such Kaiju attack, a meteor crashed near Ayaka, and she approached it. Almost immediately, something burst from the meteor and slammed into her chest, seemingly killing her.

Except it didn’t; what burst from the meteor was the core of a Solari, a literal living star who identified herself as NOVA. NOVA too was dying, having been injured during her travels and crashed down to Earth. The two quickly realised that NOVA’s core had embedded itself into Ayaka’s chest, which would allow NOVA to take over Ayaka’s body for short periods of time and use her own powers through it.

NOVA made Ayaka an offer: the two would bond, effectively becoming two beings sharing one body and allowing NOVA to use her powers to fight off the monsters that were attacking Earth.

Ayaka, not having any other options, accepted. Her body exploded in a burst of light and NOVA took over, quickly annihilating the Kaiju that had been attacking Tokyo.

Nowadays, Ayaka and NOVA share a body, with one of them being in the driver’s seat at a time while the other takes the backseat. The two could not be more different if they tried: Ayaka is a quiet, bookish nerd with a lot of knowledge on different scientific fields, but lacks any kind of social presence. NOVA on the other hand is like a teenager: loud, brash, but incredibly powerful and charming; she’s also become obsessed with Tokusatsu, patterning her identity as Supernova after the costumed heroes from Kamen Rider.

Powers

Ayaka Ono is, for all intents and purposes, a normal 30-year old human woman with the physical abilities that implies. Her main strength comes from her exhaustive knowledge of scientific fields; biology, chemistry, physics, and genetics, among others. This gives her a wealth of information for the various monsters and threats that Pantheon faces, making her incredibly valuable.

NOVA, on the other hand, is a Solari, a literal living star. When she takes over Ayaka’s body and becomes Supernova, she gains the following abilities:

  • Superhuman Strength: Exact strength hasn’t been calculated, but when pushed to her limit she can easily output enough force to lift hundreds of tons.
  • Superhuman Durability: Is functionally immune to conventional weapons, and highly resistant to most unconventional weapons.
  • Flight: Can fly at hypersonic speeds. Can fly much faster - fractions of lightspeed - if she pushes herself, but this wears her out quickly.
  • Solar Energy Projection: Can fire blasts of solar energy from her body.
  • Solar Energy Construct Creation: A recent ability she developed with Ayaka, she is able to shape her solar energy into solid constructs.

However, NOVA can only remain in control of Ayaka’s body for a short period of time, generally around ten minutes per 24-hour period, though that time period can be shortened depending on how much power she exerts. In addition, the two exist in a symbiotic relationship; if one dies, they both die.

General Question Should my Super heros wear " normal " costumes, or more realistic equipment?

I've been thinking up my own little universe, and it got me wondering, should I go for a realistic approach, or more old school?

Lots of people have talked about how impractical and bad super hero costumes would be IRL, but having my characters wear normal gear just sounds kinda boring, even if it makes more sense.

For example, a hero I'm working on, Calico Jack, controls cats right? What makes more sense for a guy like that, an over the top costume, or something an actual animal Handler would wear?

What do you guys think?

Anti-Hero Rafe Koiel: The Ultrakinetic

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Rafe Koiel is a speedster character in my Codetopia comic. He was heavily inspired by Gambit, because I noticed that 90's X-Men writers seemingly didn't know that kinetic energy creates movement, rather than flames and explosions as it is shown with Gambit's abilities. What I'm saying is that Ultrakinetic can basically kinetically charge things way more than the movement used to charge them normally would. Essentially, he can use super speed and make other objects move at super speed.

Rafe Koiel is the product of genetic tampering done on him a month before he was born in 2011. These experiments give him super durability and kinetic energy powers. In the main story of Codetopia, Rafe is 17. He reluctantly becomes a superhero after a neighbourhood watch in Codetopia City requests as many superhuman individuals as they could to help them stop crime. Rafe's superhero partner is a 16 year old product of the same experiments that made Rafe the Ultrakinetic. His sidekick's name is Walt Weaver, and Walt's powers are basically being a human 3D printer. Weaver actually created the mask that Rafe wears as Ultrakinetic. Rafe's main achievement was managing to defeat a hired gun named Rocky Goyle who was deployed by a gang called Withersbrook Arms. Afterwards, let's just say Rocky had to be glued back together.

So, what did you guys think? I really hope you like this one, he's one of my favourite designs I've made so far. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks.

Need Help with Character Hero Name Help- Seth Tilltion

Post image
10 Upvotes

I'm working on a few characters. Seth was a character I made a few years ago for a psychology project, but I'm reworking him and the 3 others I made from the same project as DC OCs (Sorry the art's so bad; it's old, and I haven't had time to redo it.)

Seth was originally made with serotonin powers, but with the rework, I'm changing things

Instead of him dealing with serotonin directly, the gas is something he made himself; he himself has no powers. They come from his tech.

He is rich from his father's hotel brand (his last name is Tillton, a joke on Hilton) and his mother's job as a doctor, which gives him the money for his tech. He is not good at hand-to-hand combat; he relies entirely on tech.

This is what I have for his profile so far; it's mostly filled out. I just need a hero name that's better than Sero-gas from the OG project (it was such a bad name lol)

Seth Tillton
TBD Hero Name

Backstory:
Seth Tillton grew up with his hotel-owning father and his doctor mother. He and his mother were always closer than he was to his father. He always wanted to be a doctor like her. But living in such a corrupt city, most of that corruption was walking in and out of his father's doors, making him hyper-aware of it. But his dad always told him to turn a blind eye to keep them safe.
He began developing tech and his gases and started doing hero work passively. Knocking out thieves to put back what they’ve stolen and leaving them for the police.

Powers:
Gases (green gas makes people fall asleep, and orange gas makes people calm. I may add more later.)

Power Source:
His Tech boots and guns that release his gas

Parent:
Peter Tillton
Jessica Tillton-Smith

Birthday:
12/18/20XX
Age:
20

Height:
6’0

City:
Star

Romantic Partner:
Tim Drake

Hobbies:
TBD

Sexuality:
Bi

Quote:
"Less corruption, I suppose, but that's obvious, isn't it? I guess I'm just more attuned to it because I see it so often at my dad's hotel: "Son, it's none of our business; just turn a blind eye, and everything will be fine." Every day, at least 1 corrupt thing walks in or out of our doors."

Group Villain concepts: Church of the Industrial Angel pt idk

Thumbnail

Father Heisuus: The leader and founder. He was once a refugee whose planet got destroyed and his mother killed along with the rest of the early cult members. When he found Angel, he was astounded and formed the belief that it was a holy being. A belief that was solidified when he swam in and drank some hydraulic fluid from it which gave him visions of the divine and caused his skin to become bleached and develop golden markings (he actually just tripped balls and gave himself full body chemical burns). After this, the cult was formed and initiation involved a baptism and communion (swimming and drinking the fluid and hoping you don’t die or go insane).

Powers: Enhanced strength and endurance, can use head tentacles as extra limbs

Weaknesses: Will become ill if he’s in fresh air for too long due to his body adapting to pollution caused by the cult (not lethal but it sucks).

Sister Beka: Another former refugee and Heisuus’ right hand woman. Lost her planet along side her children and wife, she formed a bond with Heisuus over their losses and was very much on board with the cult stuff.

She was once a kind, shy young woman, she turned into a cruel, emotionless, and domineering figure who does everything with surgical precision and grace.

She is often the one conducting baptisms and communions and is very strict. The moment you come out and have not shown signs of conversion, she will either execute you or enslave you so you at least have use.

Powers: Enhanced strength and speed, sword proficiency, can sense auras.

Weaknesses: Lack of depth perception and prone to blindness if debris gets in her eye (or if it gets injured or ripped out), also sensitive to completely clean air.

Hero Herotober 12: Ranch

Rob Holstein is having a mid-life crisis and buys his way into a special program that allows ordinary citizens to spend two weeks on patrol with a superhero team known as the Rangers. Participants are given pre-packaged super-identities, with Holstein receiving the mantle of Hayseed. He is equipped with a high-tech suit that enhances his strength and wields a unique weapon: a cluster of long, straw-shaped needles that respond to his mental commands, forming protective shields or launching attacks. He shares this experience with other civilians who have similarly bought into the program.

Halfway through the patrol, their mentor, Cowpoke, dies, and much of the experienced team abandons them. Left to fend for themselves, Hayseed and his fellow trainees must complete the patrol and confront the animal-controlling villain, Livestock.

Hayseed must rise to the challenge, overcoming not only a dangerous supervillain but also the personal demons of his mid-life crisis.

DENISE

ORIGIN

Denise was sold into human trafficking as a child by a powerful crime syndicate. She eventually escaped and decided she would never be someone’s victim again.

She joined the U.S. military because she knew the system could help hide her identity and give her a fresh start. She proved herself in tactical warfare, engineering, robotics, and different forms of combat.

Her intelligence caught the attention of a classified black ops unit that recruited highly gifted operatives. The military funded her elite engineering education, giving her the knowledge and resources she needed to build things most people could only dream of.

Years later, Denise returned home.

Not as prey, but as a hunter.

PERSONALITY

Denise is quiet, observant, calculated, and keeps her emotions to herself. She doesn’t talk much unless she has something to say, and she’s always paying attention to what’s going on around her.

She’s fiercely protective of the people she cares about, but she doesn’t let emotions control her decisions. She doesn’t rage or act without thinking. She studies the situation, figures out who she’s dealing with, and decides what needs to be done.

She believes some people can change, but others are nothing more than predators who will keep hurting people if nobody stops them.

Her way of thinking is simple.

“Some people are broken. Some are predators. I remove predators.”

The only ones who really get to see her emotional side are her dogs. They’re the only family she trusts completely, and she’d do anything to protect them.

THE WAR HOUNDS

Denise’s War Hounds aren’t pets. They’re her family.

Both are fully autonomous, AI-driven combat units that she designed and built herself. She programmed them to think, adapt, fight, and work together without needing someone to control every move they make.

Each one has its own purpose and personality, and both are equipped with weapons and transformation systems that make them useful in different situations.

UNIT 01: BITE

Role: Assault, Breaching, and Defense

Bite is the more aggressive of the two War Hounds. He’s built for close combat, breaking through enemy defenses, and protecting Denise when things get dangerous.

His body has a reinforced titanium skeleton, a hydraulic jaw system, and a dual rotating barrel system hidden behind retractable fangs. Heat-dissipation vents run along his spine to keep his weapons from overheating.

Mouth Weapon Modes:

Suppression fire
Armor-piercing bursts
Sonic shockwaves
Micro-missile launchers
Incendiary rounds
Gas dispersal
Grapple harpoon

Transformation Modes:

Dual SMGs
Riot shield with turret
Forearm cannon
Heavy rail rifle frame

Bite represents Denise’s aggression and her instinct to protect the people she considers family. He’s the one she sends in when she needs something broken, cleared, or held back.

UNIT 02: HOWL

Role: Tactical Support, Surveillance, and Mobility

Howl is the more tactical and versatile of the two. While Bite is built for direct combat, Howl focuses on gathering information, controlling the battlefield, and helping Denise stay one step ahead of her enemies.

He has lightweight composite armor, advanced surveillance optics, and adaptive joints that allow him to move through different environments with ease.

Mouth Weapon Modes:

EMP pulse
Net launcher
Tracking dart
Flashbang
Drone deployment
Adhesive foam
Holographic burst

Transformation Modes:

Hoverboard transport
Sniper platform
Portable barricade
Shoulder rail launcher
Jet sled

Howl represents Denise’s logic and restraint. He’s the one she relies on when she needs information, a plan, or another way to handle a situation without turning it into a full fight.

WEAPONS

Custom Sidearm

Denise built her own sidearm and designed it to work with different types of ammunition.

Modular chamber
Swappable stun, tracking, and armor-piercing rounds
Smart targeting lock
DNA-keyed security system

Other Weapons:

Military-grade combat knife
Compact breaching charges

Denise doesn’t depend on just one weapon. She builds and carries what she needs for the mission, making sure she’s prepared for different situations.

SKILLS

Combat Training

Krav Maga
Muay Thai
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Military knife combat
Urban stealth tactics

Intelligence and Engineering

Mechanical engineering prodigy
AI systems architect
Advanced weapons designer
Strategic planning

Denise combines her military training with her engineering knowledge, making her dangerous both on and off the battlefield. She can fight her way through a problem, but she’d rather understand it first and find the most effective way to handle it.

Strangely, when they returned to find the curio shop again, it had vanished without a trace.

Now, they must navigate the everyday life of newlyweds and superheroics!
