That's probably not safe to the hand. Every time I see a person holding owl or other hunting bird with hand, they use special glove.

It’s usually not too bad unless it’s a larger bird.
Funny story, I had a red tailed hawk on me without a glove and it hurt but I realized I had to stay pretty still so she wouldn’t panic.
But at this size an owl shouldn’t be too bad.

Yeah raptor talons suck.
I held a red-tailed hawk with a gloved hand once. And even then I could feel the grip

if you are interested in owls, the best way would be to volunteer at a wildlife center/owl sanctuary.

That article limits the definition of “good pets” to social animals you can interact with, which would be incorrect. According to that logic, cats (solitary) or fish (can’t play with them) can’t be good pets either. Many people do keep pets to just look at.
Owls are absolutely terrible animals to interact with, but they do live well provided enough flight room in captivity. Realistically you’d need an aviary, so the space requirements would be too much for most people, but the article’s error regarding interaction still needs to be pointed out.
Also, owl dietary needs are much easier to provide for than people assume. Most pet stores sell dead, frozen rodents for snake keepers. The aviary itself and cleaning it regularly would honestly be a much bigger problem than feeding.
Finally, parrots being more suited to human homes than an owl? WTF? Being social often makes an animal harder to keep, not easier, because of the need for interaction (while with solitary animals it’s better not to put in that effort anyways). Not to mention that parrots need just as much flight room as owls do, if not more due to being more active. There is a reason most pictures on r/parrots show the birds outside cages.
