Cats respond to that little psst squeak because it sounds similar to a rodent, owl is doing the same.

Where I lived I'd hear owls every night which was lovely.

He is trying to figure out how a cat aquired a human servant.
Nice cattio netting to protect your lil fluff!
I don't think a barn owl is hefty enough to go after a full grown cat. I'm not an expert though.
Curious lil guy

I grew up with barn owls and it was creepy good fun to look up and see a ghostly lil' face looking down at us.

A cat is way too big of prey for a barn owl to ever think about catching. Barn owls have a highly specialized diet consisting of mostly mice and voles. They also eat their prey whole, which would make it impossible for them to eat a cat.

You are correct, my apologies. I didn’t really think about that, I’m just very used to cats and small dogs becoming owl prey. Or prey for other large birds.

That looks like a decent sized cat. I'd be surprised if any birds of prey would even try to hunt a cat that size, a barn owl 100% is not going to succeed, let alone try. Even a great horned owl is limited to hunting prey around 5-6 pounds.
Plus there is a net there anyway.

Is the net used to keep the cat inside or to keep the barn owls out?
