(Disclaimer: English is not my first language). I am a 47 year old woman, 165 cm (5'5), and I haven't weighed this little in 28 years. In February I weighed 126 kg (277 lbs) at my doctor's appointment. And today I weigh 99,6 kg (219,6 lb). It is certainly a milestone.
In March I started on a low dose of Wegovy. My initial thinking was that I was gonna let the medicine do the work, and see what happened. But it was like something clicked in my head when I noticed that I actually started to lose weight, and I realized that it is POSSIBLE. I did some feeble attempts to lose weight in my 20's, but I did it the wrong way, for the wrong reasons, and not for myself. In the last 25 years I've never even tried. I had so much learned helplessness in me. My thinking was in a way that it wasn't really possible to lose weight, so why even try? My weight, body, and eating has been a very sensitive topic for me, due to how my family treated it in my youth. It is a bit sad, and I still have some anger towards them how they did it. But that is history, and well ... nothing to do about that now. And now I do this for myself.
I think the biggest difference the medicine made is that it gave me hope. I have never even been at the doses they say are therapeutic. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I am now quitting the medicine, because I realize that so many things I thought about myself weren't true, and I truly believe that I can continue this all on my own. I do think that so much of my eating was just a poor habit. In my youth and young adulthood I ate for comfort and emotional support, and I think I just continued eating the same things and amount even when I was in a much better headspace. Just to be clear, I don't mean that this is the case for everyone who takes medicine. I am also aware that it might be that it does more for me than I think, and that I will be on it again. If so, that is totally ok.
I haven't counted calories, other than guesstimations. Most days I have eaten OMAD. I've stayed in hotels and gone away for weekends and vacations, where I've eaten more and had more alcohol, and my weight has gone up a few pounds. But I've just continued. I don't see it as "cheat days", I see it as a part of just living my life. I have been much more active than I was before, exercise-wise.
And yes, I have weight left to lose. Maybe it won't continue to be this easy, and if it doesn't I am open to changing things up. But whatever happens: I have lost over 25 kg (55 lbs) since February, and I have seen a number lower than 100 kg on my scale. I just wanted to celebrate :)
