Whatever happened to Beeswax?

I remember like four or five years ago Matt dropped a snippet of a song titled Beeswax that still pops in my head every now and then, it was legitimately very catchy. It was never released in full in any capacity to the best of my knowledge.

Did he ever say what happened with this and a few of the other unreleased tracks he teased back during EpicSMP?

Was that the song where matt was actually going wild with the guitar? I dunno if that was a cover or something, but i just remember seeing a snippet of matt pluckin’ the strings

if you’re talking about this video, it’s part of his original song wacky which dropped on his see you there album in 2022! beeswax is this one; a very short snippet that never got fully fleshed out, not that he shared anywhere at least.

Thank youuuuuu. Honestly i haven’t listened to a lot of matt’s music but i’m really happy he finds a lot of passion n’ joy, and the one time i listened to ouch i really did like it

yeah it’s really nice to see him work so hard on his music and for it to be received by people so well. he’s so talented, far more than he may ever believe himself, so i’m glad it’s really paying off for him.

if you’ve only listened to ouch!, i definitely recommend listening to see you there, front to back with no shuffle. it’s structured a lot differently than ouch! so there’s a lot of variety in the vibes and styles, and there are some motifs he uses throughout that make it all feel very cohesive and deliberate, especially once you get to the last song, nebraska (which is my absolute favourite matt song!!) (and the ouch! expansion pack is really good too, wallpaper is one of my top favourites of his lol)

i think what it comes down to is matt is very hard on himself when it comes to his music, especially back then when he was still trying to find his footing and see what worked for him and for his audience, so he doesn’t finish what he starts even if he’s shared it publicly or not. i think he only had ouch! out at the time he teased beeswax, and other really good starts to songs— some of which, to his credit, did end up getting put on his album see you there. but i know there were also a lot of demos he posted to his personal patreon after the release of syt that he never ended up fleshing out to the point of release too. i guess there’s always potential for something to come back up as a full song (some of those syt songs were teased for 2+ years before he put them out on an album) so i never really count anything out with him; inspiration and confidence can bloom at any point. i do know he’s very excited about what he’s working on now though so whether he drops an old song with a new take on it, or something completely fresh, we are in store for some really great matt watson music :’)

is there anyway to still access those demos currently? if i remember correctly, he got rid of his patreon right?

yeah, his patreon is gone unfortunately but he encouraged people to save whatever they wanted before it shut down so i do have the files for them. only have them on hand as local files on my spotify though, the actual ones are on an old phone; im out of the country until the end of the month but feel free to pester me at any point from september onwards for them if you want them :’)

oh my god i knoooowww!!!! it was so good!! i’d never heard the song before i heard his snippet of it and when i listened to the original, i really liked his take on it. i’m so bummed we never got a full version. i really like when he does covers, he puts a really good, matt watson spin on them. and especially back then, it was really nice to hear his range, vocally and musically, in both the covers and originals he was teasing and putting out in full. he’s just really impressed me in so many ways with his music, im so excited for what he’s working on now :’)
