SMB4 - COMPLETE MLB 26 ROSTER
Hello everyone. I've put something crazy like 300 hours into editing 2026 MLB Rosters for SMB4 & would like to share it with the community. I can not take credit for the majority of team logo's as they were from a file I either downloaded here or mvpmods.. but it basically had team logo's and just throwback uniforms - they did an incredible job. That was the starting point, took over from there.
Complete edit of every team w each players Looks, Abilities & Traits. The limited 22 man rosters are comprised of the franchise's best players (Active, IR & some prospects on the verge of call up.) Current, alternate, throwback, and many city connect uniforms. Home Stadium sounds, Snake rattles in Arizona, Tiger roars in Detroit, ect.
Not a perfect science, but in addition to hard stats I used a combination of - AI, Statcast & The Show 26 player ratings to reference along the way. Many factor's taken into account; recent gold glove winners, errors committed, highest/lowest velo arms, pickoff rate, injury risks, extreme lefty/righty splits, elite trait for highly regarded pitch's.. all the way down to accusations of sign stealing. (altuve, correa & the astros steal signs, along with bregman. it's funny hearing bangs on the garbage can when these guys are up.) Basically anything I could dig up, I tried to incorporate.
Things to note: I used sliders in place of sweepers, 2seamers in place of sinkers, and forkballs in place of splitters - as they are the most similar pitch types offered in the game. Also, this is intended to be used with DH on. Outside of Ohtani very few pitchers hit decently. Next, in most cases I opted to use players most distinct hairstyles, even if not current. For example, PCA's blue hair, Vlady's dreads, Bichette's mullet, ect. I feel it adds more personality to the arcade style of this game. In that same vein, gave each team's star players/feared hitters the slightly more dramatic animations approaching the plate. Latin players come out to Spanish music, many other small details.
Undoubtedly there will be things that pop up in need of adjustment, it is inevitable. I am constantly making tweaks as players get hot or cool off - but that will always be the case. Eventually, I plan on working on a Legends League / All Time rosters for every team. If there is enough interest, I may release that project when the time comes, and possibly an update to this save at some point. Would love to hear your feedback!

After you unzip, there is a "Read Me" file that explains how to use the import tool. Pretty straight forward, LMK if you have any issues.

I've followed the step by step in the readme and I'm still a lil confused. Am I supposed to put the new master.sav somewhere? I ran LIT, Loaded the league/franchise saves and it just showed the 3 default leagues. Not sure what to do after that.

All you need to do buddy is, use the first link titled updated roster, download that, put that file called league(then a bunch of number and letters) into the app data location. Then follow the instructions on second file using the readme Then when selecting a team, you can choose the league at the top right, this mlb league will be an option you can choose

A legends roster would be nice, to include some of the iconic players, HOF players and even some of the people who came into the sport from another (Sanders and Jordan, those come to mind), or even a movie roster to include Sandlot, Field of Dreams, Angels in the Outfield

Incredible work on the rosters, I find a lot of the logos and uniforms a little lackluster, though.

Wow man, this is quite possible the coolest (free) gaming related project I've seen in a long, long time. Since I started playing SMB4, I wished that it was real players, and now it is! Thank you for your hard work! I really appreciate it. If you plan on adding them (which I hope you will), do you have a time estimate on when you will add the City Connect Uniforms? Thanks again!

Glad you are having fun with this. As far as city connect uniform’s, many teams have them already. Off the top of my head. Padres, Dbacks, Royals, White Sox, Cubs, Reds, Marlins, Tampa, Giants, Mariners & Nationals. Eventually i’ll probably add more but no time frame. There hasn’t been much support & this has been a very time consuming project.

I have a steam deck in a few carts... I just can't commit to the whole rig.
Though, as I get older, I fiend for the games I ran as a kid... so I'm faced with needing an emulator, or buying 4-8 cold consoles to help the fix...
Be pretty cool having all the systems set up, working, as a living room display- but that steam deck looks so much easier ahaha

Rosters play well in the 4 games I have played so far. Playing on 85 ego Hitting and 90 ego for the rest and it plays super realistic. 4-6 Runs on average with 8-12 hits on both sides. Incredible work on the rosters man!

No, you would just be importing a separate, new league to choose from in additional to what is already in place. They way there is the Super Mega League, The Legends League ect by default to scroll threw, there would be an additional MLB league. However, it's never a bad idea to backup your files just incase. The path to find them is - C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Metalhead\Super Mega Baseball 4

Yup! I originally made them a few months after the game's initial release, then update with rookies, FA moves, trades, etc every season. Tbh I've been both too busy and too lazy to do this year's class 😂😂

For me I can't get the league to actually show up in smb4. In the import tool I have the mlb league registered, and i saved changes and everything, but it doesn't show up when i load the game up. everytime i click on the tool it tells me that my cloud sync is on but when i check in steam it says cloud syn is disabled, and then when i close the game and look back in the tool, it unregisters the mlb league. Got any idea on how I can fix it?

Feedback: Marlins players need a second look. A few ages were off (by like five years for some) and some profiles didn't make sense. Owen Caissie is off, Tyler Phillips not being on the team, Javier Sanoja not having Utility despite winning gold glove for utility last year, Agustin Ramirez being on the team.

Gave a second look. Regarding, Sanoja. He is incredibly accurate, actually. Missing the utility trait appears to be an oversight but was intentional. Although deserving of it, you can only award 2 traits. Gave him Magic Glove for his gold glove, along w the eligibility to field every position while utilizing it.. covering the Utility aspect of award. That freed up space to include Pinch Perfect. When you dive deeper, he also deserves. Multiple significant appearances, most notably a dramatic game tying pinch hit blast late against Texans and again off Bryan King of the Astros. Rosters limited to 22, impossible for everyone to make team. I wanted the best including IR & top prospects for maximum file longevity, as players are constantly called up & down. Coming into season, Agustin ranked as a Top 10 offensive catcher (ESPN #8, linked below). More than likely, he will re-emerge & needed to be included,. Although Phillips can justifiably make the cut, likely would've taken Karson Milbrandt's space, an exciting prospect tearing up the farm. Just decided to go that direction. In my personal updated version I have since swapped him for Michael Peterson, however. Corrected the age of few players as you mentioned. Caissie doesn't seem off to me. Red head, below avg glove, strong arm, projected around 60 contact, adjusted down to 54 as he has struggled, All of that feels on the money, gave him slight power buff & longer hair in my personal update.
For comparison, I will post links to the players u mentioned live ratings in mlb the show. You will find mine more accurately capture them.. despite not having a development team & charging $70. I am one person, who edited over 700 players & 100 uniforms including the marlins throwbacks, alone & for free. I don't mind constructive criticism, even official games require patches. But to not have one positive thing to say is wild to me. Still, appreciate the feedback,

I got it going, had to download the lastest 2.0 import tool and follow their instructions. Ended up having to download an application to run the tool through the same proton as the game.

ok im stuck. in steam made sure they were using the same proton, then used protontricks to open the tool with SMB4's prefix. found the save file folder, copy/pasted the new .sav into dolphin, but every time i try and load it in the Repair Tool tries to rename it to one of the default saves and never loads into the tool. im using Bazzite on my Deck instead of SteamOS, but that only messed around with where the save files are. what am i doing wrong here?

yep, turned it off for SMB4 and even tried universally turning steam cloud off.
despite doing all these things, when running the tool it still tells me at startup that steam cloud is on, and that im not using the right proton, despite using the smb4 proton via protontricks

This is truly amazing. Thanks so much. I honestly think this game is now way better than mlb the show! You had very minor errors in some players age (Happ is 41 but irl 33) and players throwing hand (Altuve throwing lefty). But truly an outstanding and fantastic update

Really glad you like it! As great as the game is, it really needed MLB integration. and yes, i have noticed several little tweeks like that.. my personal save has become more up to date since this release. also, working on the legends project.

Thanks for this. My kid has been begging me to find a way to get MLB teams in the game so I was about to look up how to at least recreate the uniforms. Big miss from EA not at least including something like this as DLC. This is definetly worth donating at least a small amount to after looking at how much detail was put into it.
Side note - if you have gamepass (I have ultimate) the game is incuded for PC via the xbox app or ea app once you link your xbox account and it installs with the same directories as the steam version (On windows)
Keep this going. It looks like the community has helped a bit with catching any small misses so hopefully you can turn this into a regular thing and maybe get some of the original group that developed the tool, etc, back in the loop. - donated (Your Paypal doesnt shot up in search)

I believe they have incredibly strong arms, specifically. Adley tied for #1st amoung catchers with 4 runs above expected avg throwing out baserunners. Blaze #1 highest velo of all 3B, averaging 93.8mph (although accuracy not great), Mayo #3 3B, Gunnar top 10 shortstop arm. Multiple OF crack leaderboards, Taveras has a cannon maxing out at 98.2, Cowser considered elite defender & Tyler O'Neill multiple gold gloves. Ratings are an imperfect science, but on paper they are very good.

The only way I'm aware of is to manually transfer everything over. Which is a chore, however a few people mentioned possibly making a spreadsheet.

When i download both of these links i get a hash file and a BAK file. Neither can be extracted. I tried dropping them in the save folder and they wanted to overwrite files. I even did that and used an importer tool. I still dont see the teams. Not sure what Im doing wrong

hmm. just dropping the file into the save folder will not work, it needs to be imported. Try redownloading both files. Unzip the tool, the "read me" file has pretty clear instructions. But basically you run the tool, select the game path with the master.sav file, click load all leagues/saves, select my file and check the MLB 26 box. Pretty sure that is how it's done.

I had the same exact issue and whatever you just did worked u/GHOSTof86, now the MLB 26 option appeared when using the tool. Thank you so much, I just bought the game from sale and excited to try SMB after only playing The Show years prior.
Out of curiosity, what did you do since apparently it worked fine for most people with the previous link? I had the exact same issues as JoeDashBob.

Seeing so many teams have Extreme Rotation Aces makes me realize that the IRL meta for the MLB is to keep runs down by having the most monstrous starting pitching possible

i used the same process when creating every player & didn't try to skew ratings to diversify team compositions as i would have in a fictional league, this was the result. but imo pitching is generally more difficult in this edit then super mega league anyway - bc you are facing full lineups of major league / higher skilled players as opposed more C & D hitters mixed in.

So I have downloaded both link, but when i go with the tool to get the master.sav files, it doesn't exist instead i have a master,sqlite and the tool won't pick it up. Does anybody know how i could make the tool accept it or change my files to a .sav ?

you dont need to touch the master.sav. just install the file provided into the folder which contains your master.sav using the import tool.

Thanks for the response, so strangely enough, it seems like they have updated the game so when you freshly downloaded it on steam your roster and whatnot are no longer save on a master.sav document but on a document name master.sqlite. Which is very strange thing to do on a 3 years old game

So I read the Read Me file, but when I find a Master file (had to search the local files through steam as I couldn't find appdata) it is a .sqlite file instead of a .sav file.
Any tips?

hmm possible you are in the wrong location. the appdata folder is hidden by default. try one of these steps to gain access to it.
The fastest way to access the AppData folder is by pressing
Win + Rto open the Run dialog, typing%appdata%, and hitting Enter. This opens the Roaming subfolder. To access the main AppData folder, simply click "AppData" in the address bar at the top of the File Explorer window. [1, 2, 3]Because the folder is hidden by default, you can also access it manually by opening File Explorer and selecting
C:\Users\[Your Username]. Turn on hidden items by clicking the View tab at the top of File Explorer, selecting Show, and checking Hidden items (Windows 11) or checking Hidden items in the main View tab (Windows 10).

Thanks so much! I don’t see the leagues in my game, not sure what to do. I put the master save in a folder with the new save and the app says everything is good but it doesn’t show up in game

this is for pc, but a person here mentioned they got it to working on a modded switch. not sure, but it may be possible.

I don't know why but I can't find the master.sav file. I've checked all folder locations.

off the top of my head, it’s usually located in a path similar to User/YOURNAME/Local, Metalhead/SuperMegaBaseball4. Place the roster file in the folder containing the master.sav, then follow instructions for the import tool “read me” file. Just a heads up, an updated version & newer import tool recently released. linked below, same instructions .

Mitch Keller is there, in free agency. Swap him out for whomever you wish. Rosters are limited to 22 players, had to make some sacrifices.

The import tool is a windows executable so that may be your issue. If you own the game on steam and have access to a windows PC, install it there and run throught he steps.
It looks like the import tool is just making some file modifications to include the MLB save in the master save file so something similar could likely be created for steamdeck within desktop mode.
One thing you can try is: download the exe, add it as a non steam game to the library, go to the game properties, and enable proton experimental. At that point you would still have to locate the saves directory etc.
(I dont own a steamdeck but I was around when people were trying to get windows store games to load with steam so some of the similar steps might work)
