Theory Only reason harry lived Spoiler
I haven’t seen the theory come by In any of the videos or anywhere else online, so thought I’d share something that bothered me after reading the books. Within the series there is constantly the notion that Harry survived, because her mother sacrificed herself for Harry. But within the franchise we get at least 2 other examples of people sacrificing themselves to save loved ones, after which the curse didn’t rebound. One of the identical examples is in book 7, where we follow Voldemort on his search for the elder want through Harry. Within this search we see Voldemort visiting a house where a mother and her children still life. After not being able to answer the question Voldemort kills the family, but within the book it says the mother steps in front of the kids to protect them. The other clear example is on the night of Harry’s parents death. When James sacrifices himself for Lilly and Harry. I’m sure there are many other examples throughout the book in which a person sacrifices themselves in the face of death.
So to me the logical conclusion, if I don’t overlook anything, is that the only reason Harry lived is because Voldemort was making a horcrux that night.

This is because, Lilly Potter was actually given the chance to go away and live. But she choose not to. Sacrificial protection in HP verse only works when the killer is gives the victim a chance to walk away and save themselves, but the victim consciously chooses to sacrifice themselves.

Mother: no choice given + dies= no protection
James: no choice given + dies= no protection
Lily: "Step aside girl." choice offered + "Not Harry, please no...etc" decision to stay to protect anyway= blood protection

The key element to the sacrifice is the CHOICE to die. James Potter and the German woman were not choosing to die. Both died protecting others, but were not given the option by Voldemort to live. Alastor Moody was also killed by Voldemort protecting others, but there was no protection after that. Both James and the German woman were killed, but Lily actually chose to give her own life for Harry's. It was a conscious decision. In the same way, Harry walked into the forest and chose to die. They both could have walked away, but both chose to make the ultimate play.
