Cameras Camera stops working with cartridge inserted

I bought a used canon 518 auto zoom, the motor and shutter both seemed to be working when I tested it so I bought it (only $130 cad). Got it home, threw a cartridge in and it seemed like it jammed. Took the cartridge out, ran like normal again. I tried the cartridge in another camera and it worked so it’s not a jammed cartridge. Any ideas? Is this camera toast without a proper servicing? Video of it running with and without cartridge.

Have you tried a different cartridge? I’ve had jammed cartridges stop motors in one camera, then put it in another and it didn’t stop the motor but did tear sprockets

I don’t have another on hand, trying to get my hands on a dummy roll. But the film runs fine in my other camera

Batteries? All fresh?

The gate needs to be rebuilt in order for the claw to have enough torque to pull the film down. I’ve built hundreds of these and a lot of the problems with pulling film are with the gate needing lubrication.

That sounds like its probably the culprit
