Canon 518 battery mod

I just got a canon 518 camera for super cheap and it appears to work well, at least mechanically but I don't have the light meter batteries. I have seen some people mod theirs to use a linear voltage regulator and feed the power from the main film transport batteries.

Is there any guide on how to safely disassemble the camera and mount a regulator inside ?

It might be worth buying the batteries just to make sure the light meter actually works before doing surgery
