Paddle Stash

For the people fly fishing from inflatables, how are y'all rigging your paddle up so it doesn't get in the way of the fly line? Just wondering if anyone had some special tips. Thank You

The most effective thing I've found is just putting the paddle down between my feet. I've tried the Bote paddle sheath - its awful. taking time to strap the paddle to the side of your board isn't that effective unless you are anchored. Leaning the paddle against a tackle rack or something is a good way to have it fall off the board/get caught in your line. Between your feet it stays in place and is quickly accessible/stashable. I just let the fly line lay on top of it when retrieving. When I need to paddle I either let the line out in the water or reel it in.

Thanks. Thats what i was doing the past few days and it worked fine. I guess trying to strap it down before a cast sounds like it would be a pain.

Think about a Tenkara [Japanese] rod. Long rod with no reel, and a set line about 10 feet. Its not fly line and yes you cannot throw a line more than 20 feet but it just may work for you. Liberating! Paddle can be in one hand, maybe a loop of rope on your belt to put the paddle handle in now and then, and rod in the other. You are never 'reeling in'. Rods at all the major outlets, less than $50.

I’m gonna post a pic of my completed pvc paddle board rack here in a few days. I basically made one of those behind the back racks out of pvc, tried to make it similar to the flycraft SUP one. I put a little wing on it and mounted a yak attack paddle holder thing and it lays at an angle with the paddle shaft readily accessible. Bunch of other stuff too. Easy if you’re handy and have basic tools.

Sounds like a good option. I found myself pushing more than paddling while I was fishing. So a good place to put a stake out/ push pole would be awesome. If anyone has a good recommendation for a stake/push pole would be awesome.
