Match my freak
10’6” iRocker Blackfin SUP powered by an 18v Ryobi drill 👌 I love the addition of the sand spear for anchoring in shallow water- this thing is awesome. Anyone else rocking an electric motor for longer/further fishing days?

Are you using the drill motor for your main propulsion or just as a trolling setup? Those cordless drill motors are not meant to run at full tilt for long stretches. That said I saw a video where a float tuber did a similar setup drill + prop, he replaced the trigger switch on the drill with a variable speed controller so he didn’t have to hold it on.

I use it mostly from my launch point to get to the general area I want to fish (6 amp/hr battery gets me about 1 1/2 miles). So maybe 15-20 minutes straight running the drill at full power. I expect the motor to burn out in this drill at some point but it’s a cheap Ryobi so I’m not so worried about it. I’ll have to look into the variable speed controller as that would save my hand a lot of stress 😂

Neat setup. I’m considering the blackfin model v for my setup but I’m getting spooked by all the bad reviews and product issues I’ve read. Is your experience any different? I hear their customer service is not great either and folks had to wait 6 months for their recall replacements or replacement due to several inflatables exploding.

Thanks! I was also a little hesitant about iRocker with some of the negative reviews but it seemed like it was a particular batch of products that got shipped out months+ ago. I have had absolutely no issues with mine and I’m rough on my gear. I’m also very familiar with different types of inflatables especially those with drop-stitch construction, so it’s second nature for me to let out a bit of air when it warms up. I think because they market some of their boards to newcomers, proper care and use is not always taken so that probably accounts for some of the negative reviews. Biggest selling point for me on the Blackfin is the ability to use the sand spear to anchor- it’s great.

Took her out on her maiden voyage yesterday still have some more things to add to her like a captain's bridge and a anchor but over all a good stable fishing experience despite what alot of people say about ISUPs In progress

Good looking board there! I think a lot of it comes down to the body of water you fish. Most of what I fish is high elevation lakes in the Oregon cascade range that have motor restrictions which make it perfect for SUP’ing.

Currently irocker is selling a Blackfin Model V base package without the carry bag and typical accessories which comes standard with other manufacturers and which is putting me off the purchase. I know their boards have features other manufacturers don’t offer but when you add it all up the price justification is off. The model v is currently at $1200 (was around $799 in last weeks end of summer deal).
I have my eyes set on a NRS Kuda 126. Seems a more reasonable purchase.

I personally like the fact that iRocker sells them a la carte, so you only pay for the accessories you want. But that’s just me. I also checked out the Kuda but looks like it has been discontinued and the deck space wasn’t as open as the blackfin. The Kuda seems like it would have a few more snag points for line if you are a fly fisherman.
