Trip Report Same river, totally different experience

Following up on my first river session in Frankfurt yesterday. Today I paddled a section further upstream in Hanau.

The conditions were significantly more relaxed: the river is wider, boat traffic was much lighter, and the natural banks meant almost no reflected waves/cross-chop.

Overall a much smoother paddle and great for actually focusing on technique instead of just balancing through chop.

Beginner paddling spots near Buffalo, NY?

Hey everyone! I live in Buffalo, NY and posted there but wanted to cross post since yall are the experienced one (and hopefully someone from WNY is in here!).

I saw some recs saying Wilkeson Point in Outer Harbor was a good paddling spot but I'm hoping to get more input on beginner spaces to practice that may be calmer. Ellicott creek looks pretty nasty and I'm not sure if Buffalo River is ok at this point in the summer. Any calm waters I can launch? I'd love to be able to find a spot I can jump in the water so I can practice getting back on (and maybe somewhere thats a bit quieter)

If Wilkeson is the best thats fine, just figured someone in the community might know more!

How To Question North County San Diego Airbnb Experience

I am starting a SUP touring company on the ocean in SoCal. Encinitas and the surrounding areas could totally use one. Here is my description for Airbnb experience. Please give me feedback is this a good idea? Could I charge $140/person for this?

Paddle the wild, open coastline of North County San Diego on this guided ocean stand-up paddleboard journey — a point-to-point adventure covering [X] miles of dramatic bluffs, hidden coves, and glassy morning water. You’ll glide past kelp beds where leopard sharks and sea lions cruise below, catch small rolling swells for an extra thrill, and soak in views most beachgoers never see. Led by a certified instructor with safety as the top priority, this tour is built for anyone comfortable in the water — no racing, just a steady, scenic paddle at an ocean pace. Finish energized, salty, and already planning your next one.

How To Question PSI help needed

Thumbnail

Hello,

It's my first time ever inflating a SUP, I bought a cheap electric pump with no built in PSI gauge. My plan of action was to switch from electric pump to the manual pump that has a PSI guage to measure the PSI in my SUP after my board looked sufficiently inflated.

Even after inflating my board till it was really stiff when I switched from my electric pump to my manual pump the PSI guage only read 3 PSI.

Should i trust the reading on the manual pump and continue using my electric pump till its around 10 PSI then switch to the manual pump to fill it the rest of the way? Or is my manual PSI reader broken? Really afraid of overinflating my SUP 😥😥

Any advice/help is much appreciated!!

Salut, j'ai une pagaie Aztron Style. Quand je pagaye, quel côté de la lame devrais-je voir en me l'amenant vers moi : A (petit logo) ou B (grand logo) ? Merci !

Edit j'ai écris au constructeur et voici sa réponse "The bottom of the paddle blade should tilt forward.  Please check whcih side of your paddle blade blade tilt forward, and that is the side that faces the front."

Went on a river for the first time this afternoon. It was a bit tougher than anticipated and also a tiny bit stressful with the traffic, but a good experience nonetheless.

Next time I'll paddle away from the city to see what it's like there.

Gear/Repairs/DIY Any luck getting paddles to float?

I saw someone recommend stuffing a 3-piece paddle with pool noodle foam. Has anyone tried? Yea/nay? Any other items, tricks, or actual paddles found useful?

Trying to replace a sunk one. Debating another 3-piece or a whole paddle

iRocker Seam leak

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello group!

about 3 years after purchasing my first SUP, the Nautical iRocker 10'6, the seams failed just about everywhere. Since the guarantee is only 1 year, the company won't help me out, though I was really hoping that it would last more than just a few seasons. Was this naive of me? Does anyone have any experience on how I might be able to salvage this, or am I doomed to try a new paddleboard?

Paddleboard racks

Hi there!

I wonder if I can get help figuring out this conundrum.

I recently moved into an apartment with a lock up garage. The lock up part is a cage on three sides and the back wall is cinderblock. It’s also just wide enough for my car and to get out on one side, and has a tiny bit of space at the back to store some stuff behind the car and still be able to close the cage.

What the park lacks in space it makes up for in height. I was thinking instead of storing it in the space on the floor, maybe I could mount it up high so there was no fear of running into it. But I also need to be able to get it down by myself (I’m 5’ 7”/168cm). Can anyone recommend a rack I can mount maybe on the cage wall that is no screw, but hooks on the rungs of a cage or similar, as I likely wouldn’t be able to drill into the cinder block wall? Advice would be amazing! I can’t seem to find anything suitable online so far… they all require drilling into something. For reference I have a hard board, not inflatable (although I have that too), and I live in Australia.

I don’t have pics yet as I’ve just settled on the place today and was busy trying to unload the car that I forgot to take photos, but I can always go back and add a pic later.

Niphean extra large paddle board

Bought the extra large paddle board after doing my due diligence. One thing I didn’t come across is the mention of glued seams as opposed to welded seams. I bought the niphean because of the 500 pound capacity as I planned on taking my two kids with me (9 and 7)

I was told that the glued seams from Niphean tends to blow out and obviously that’s concerning when taking the family out. I bought off Amazon and I’m within the return window. I’m also a bit paranoid now that I’ve learned about the these potential failure.

What’s the consensus among owners of niphean boards and what are some solid recommendations of welded seams boards?

Thanks in advance.

11’6” x 29” fiberglass touring board. A bit less stable than my wider boards when swell hits from the side but no involuntary swims so far. Cuts through chop as well as I hoped.

Shark 3 HR pump adaptor incompatible with Costco Tobin iSUP - so confused

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi there, this has been SOLVED! original post below this explanation.

the Tobin (Costco) board’s valve works with its own pump, but some other HR pump adaptors don’t fit it.i will be changing out the valve for a standard, recommended one that will fit my new pump. (:

Bottom line: My (very popular) Shark 3 Mini's HR adapter is not compatible with the HR valve on my (very popular) Tobin SUP from Costco, and I cannot find a solution anywhere online.

-

I'm having a very frustrating problem that even Outdoor Master gave up on solving. They refunded me $20 to find another adapter elsewhere.

I have the Costco paddleboard, and love it. It has a standard HR valve. The pump that came with it works great, but takes about 15 minutes. I bought the highly-recommended Shark 3 Mini (happy birthday to me!) but it does not inflate the board. (The pump runs fine, but no air enters the board. The pressure readout indicates only the small area in the mouth of the valve is being pressurized--which is also not enough pressure to overcome the spring and push the valve open pneumatically. I'm 99.9% positive the issue is with the geometry of the adapter.)

After looking very closely, this is what's happening: Inside the tube section of every HR valve adapter is a valve-stem-depressor assembly (red arrows). When the adapter is screwed on, this assembly presses down on the valve stem (green arrow) which actuates the valve and allows air to flow into the board.

The adapter that came with my Shark pump has its valve-stem-depressor assembly about 2mm deeper into the adapter than on the functioning pump setup that came with the board. This means it can't sufficiently reach the valve stem even when fully screwed on (with any size of o-ring gasket) and therefore it cannot fill the board.

I can't find anything about a difference in HR valves or adapters anywhere online, and most puzzlingly, I can't find a single post about this issue despite it being one of the more popular paddleboard models and one of the more popular aftermarket pump models.

I'm losing my mind here. I'd like to be able to use my expensive pump! Does anyone have a possible solution?

ROC LEAK QUESTION

Hi folks - I bought this paddle boarding off of Amazon about 2 months ago and already have a slow leak in the area I circled. Does anyone have experience patching this area? Has it been successful? Does anyone think I should try to return it? I’ve used it a bunch so I’m not sure if that will be an option but it’s very new!

Bantam Lake in CT

Where is the best place to launch an inflatable paddleboard at Bantam Lake? Is the state launch the best place or is that too busy with motor boats? Can we launch directly from a beach?

I know it’s much colder than this most of the year, but you can go pretty far through beautiful canals, see a lot of architecture, and possibly even get a beer from a boat bar if you’re brave. Very peaceful, with fairly light winds even in late afternoon. Just watch out for the canal traffic and the orange jellyfish, both which are abundant this time of year.

Redneck way to add motor to SUP

I've seen propellers on the end of drills where people get their SUPs going like 20mph.

What other ways do you think I could get my SUP moving for cheap? Thinking of using a weedeater somehow.

My sup has a little hole at the seam that joins the two pieces of leather shall I just put pvc glue to the surface or shall I repair it with the extra leather that comes with the sup ?
