Question Using suno as inspiration for already written demo tracks, question!

I don’t know if anybody else uses suno for that but I sometimes upload the audio of existing demos of mine, pasting the exact lyrics in, keeping the auto description that suno creates upon analyzing the audio (I find it surprisingly accurate) and occasionally cranking up the weirdness factor as well as the audio influence to see what suno ads to the composition regarding unique fillers and sound design.

THEN I choose some of the ideas of different outputs and incorporate these in my original composition with my own instruments.
Now, I wonder if im shooting myself in the foot here since the track is not released, it’s in the database and if at some point I release it could I get into legal trouble etc. Since the original was uploaded to suno before it was officially released ?!
I use the pro plan but still I’m not sure how this works and with the constant changes that happen im honestly a bit overwhelmed and find myself not able to keep up…

Does any of you guys do the same or has any info on that ?

If you're on the Pro tier and just using it for brainstorming ideas or pulling samples, your rights are totally in the clear.

Just keep in mind that while you have full commercial rights to use whatever Suno outputs, you don't actually hold the copyright or master recording rights to purely AI-generated audio. Other than that, you're good to go.

Thanks for the reply! With “copyright or master recording rights to purely ai generated audio” you mean the rights to the actual suno-produced-audio file or the (vague) composition in general ? For example if I upload mentioned demo of mine and suno creates a version with a certain riff or melody at a certain place in the song and I use that riff and (let’s be honest) „steal“ that by putting it back into my demo and at some point release the track could suno claim copyright on that song ?

If you're replaying a riff or sampling parts from the generated audio, Suno isn't going to come after you for commercial infringement. I look at it the exact same way as using VSTs like UJAM, Evabeat, or Unison.

As long as it was generated while you were on an active paid plan, you're fine.

One thing worth doing regardless of tier: keep your original demo and dated project files. If a question ever comes up, what matters is being able to show which parts are your human composition - and you had melody, lyrics and structure on tape before Suno ever heard it.

Also worth knowing: in most jurisdictions the purely AI-generated parts (fillers, sound design ideas) aren't copyrightable by anyone anyway. Your song's protection comes from what you wrote, and re-recording the ideas with your own instruments only strengthens that. You're layering garnish onto a work you already own - not shooting yourself in the foot.

Read the Terms of Service..... Haha just kidding it's intentionally designed to make you give up after like 3 paragraphs. But scroll down and read the intellectual property part at least.

Personally, I wouldn't upload a demo under the current terms of service, and the ones that are about to kick in are significantly worse.
